I spoke with few friends recently about the hype that the crypto market received at the end of 2017.
I wonder how was it before 2017.
I was into the market in the year 2015 and the price I got into was around 600USD/BTC. I would say the number of new users who are entering the market  obviously increased but then the popularity of different coins was much lower. Bitcoin and crypto still have a cultish following and thus its difficult to make a person understand that these are legitimate technologies that can overthrow the banking system.

Quote
Was the market easy to manipulate?
It was the same in my opinion.

Quote
pump and dumps were more common?
Small pumps and dumps are always happening if you close watch the minute-to-minute price changes. Bigger pumps were not common.

Quote
Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?
I was not into ICOs at that time and neither am I today. I prefer to keep bitcoin as my bigger stash and have some altcoins worthy enough as well. If I feel any ICO coin is worth getting into I would buy them when the hit the exchange.

When that was the time that I was so intensely hype and would join the bull run. But I was too late when I got the money then bought Bitcoin and it was already going down.

I entered the market in mid 2016 and bought my bitcoin for 570$. I never realised that it will grow this much the next year and after few months sold most of it to cover my trip expenses.

Dont worry dude, there will be exact thread here in few years, like hey did anyone here got into crypto before 2019? And than again, hey did anyone here got into crypto before 2022? We are still in the early days believe it or not. BTC/USD will pass 100k in a couple of years, its just a basic math.

I joined bitcoin before 2017.
I think 2017 is the worst year for bitcoin, in 2016 I saw that the crypto market was very good, unlike at the moment.
During 2017 until now it was very difficult to make a small profit, I hope the market will return to the same as in 2016 yesterday.

Was the market easy to manipulate?
Are you saying now it isn't easy to manipulate? But I think it's been the same way as it was a few years ago. It's debatable, though, since nowadays financial institutions are more interested in jumping into the bitcoin badwagon just so they can manipulate the market (see ETF).

pump and dumps were more common?
If you're referring to the amount of obvious pump and dump coins, the amount was significantly smaller back in the day.

Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?
I think ICOs had a surge in popularity in the second half of 2017, people were more interested in Bitcoin than any other upcoming project, though they still had a following.

I've been using Bitcoin regularly since 2012 and certain aspects of the community back then were a lot more fun.
Here on the forum, there was less spam and people were coming up with all these cool projects etc.
Felt more like a tight knit community back then.

I mean you still have that a little bit now, but to a lesser extent.

The whole ICO craze was also pretty much unheard of back then, so a lot less scamming going on in that area.
Not that there wasn't any scamming though, the amount of money lost through this forum is pretty staggering.

Just go and check out some of the older loan threads, some pretty funny and sad stories to be found.

Anyone remember Dank Bank for example? Tongue

Side-note: I know you want to hear about the market back then, but you can just go look at chart for that. I think there's already enough focus on that aspect of Bitcoin, just felt like talking about some other stuff.

Cryptocurrency pre year 2017 rush was far better than we have it nowadays. The rush as brought with it a lot of scam. It is quite unfortunate that you can hardly trust any ICO at a glance. Like over eighty percent of ICOs and Airdrops are now scams. Things have really changed and so many projects have collapsed.

When I got into Crypto 2014 when BTC was around $300-400 . But i can't really tell if the market manipulation now is worst that before.
The only thing I know for such is that their was no much altcoins them, and the ones that were into existence them where doing pretty fine compared to this present days, make money easily on cryptocurrency them compare to now.

Was the market easy to manipulate?
Yes, it was. Refer to Bitcoin's 2013 bubble to know how easily the market could be manipulated back then (as it is mostly the case with small markets).
Quote
pump and dumps were more common?
I can answer this with a big fat YES. When I first joined a cryptocurrencies exchange, spam rooms were full of Telegram pump&dump groups' invitations.
Quote
Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?
No, they weren't as it is the case now (or even in 2017). Bitcoin had the lion's share when it came to interest. And no, ICO image wasn't much better than it is now.

I would like to add another thing:
Scams and too good to be true projects were huge. HYIPs and Cloud Mining were much more popular than they are now.

Before the hype?  I think you'd probably have to go back to a period before BTC achieved parity with the dollar for that.  I've been around since late 2013 and there was already plenty of hype then.

Instead of ICO, it was just regular altcoins promising the world but delivering substantially less.  They were mostly still pump'n'dumps, just fewer in number.  But at least you knew what you were getting before you bought it because there was an actual blockchain to go look at.  None of this "give me money for my half-baked idea" BS that seems so ubiquitous now.  I don't think ICO has ever had a "good" image, heh.

People still thought Gox was a great place to do business.  Most of the big exchanges hadn't been hacked yet.  Few had really been given a clear opportunity to learn the lesson that you shouldn't leave your entire crypto wealth in the hands of total strangers on the internet, so in hindsight it was kind of inevitable that some of them would have to find out the hard way.  Strange that some people still don't "get it" even today.

maybe compared to now, ICO before 2017 was not much and still very little. But the ICO is very convincing, even the average success. Very different from the year after 2017. New ICOs appeared, but there was very little convincing, even many fraudsters behind the ICO. I got disgusted to follow him, and it was very annoying ...

Bitcoin in 2017 and below is the greatest day of it. Because its price reaches up to 70,000USD I think and many users made a huge income in that. In this forum, even you are a jr. Member, you can make money uo 1,000USD without investing. I hope bitcoin reached this far again.

I think the situation before the hype is almost the same with today's condition, before the hype the market still full with whales, the pump and dump group were scattered in every where, the ICO reputation was a little bit better before the hype, many good project appeared, the only different was it's easier to earn bitcoin before the hype, because before the hype crypto not too famous yet

i was here in 2012.

back then was just as fun as it is now..
trading bitcoin is more fun then stocks and shares. smart people dont hold and risk waiting years for 100%. they prefer to day trade 1% which = 365% a year with less risk

ICO's were not really a thing until 2016+
and are not really part of "bitcoin" but a separate group/community of speculators

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

It was definitely easier to manipulate. New coins would often pump and dump than now.
People were less into's ico's and ico's image was a bit better than it is nowadays.

Before 2017, we had less idiots, now we have more. We didn't any of them though.

The market was easier to manipulate because its without regulation and its volatile.

Pumps and dumps weren't too frequent, but were there.

ICOs were a good form of investment, now its same as a ponzi scheme, unless it itself is a ponzi scheme.

I hope you are being sarcastic there. Day trading is probably the most stressful activity you could put your brain and health through. Day traders certainly don't make 1% a day with stop loss orders (which can fail) and fast fluctuations in the market. Holders can gain 10,000% over a course of 5 years while chilling out (don't know how that makes them less smart).

but in the end, some HYIP only give false and unclear benefits, like some previous projects.

before 2017, HYIP was the choice of every investor, and the SEC did not have an active role. so, many HYIP victims.

yes, the market is easily manipulated, like MTGOX. and finally destroyed.
I see that today every ICO has a problem, so some ICO are only SWAP and fake. so that some investors choose to leave the ICO.

Before 2017 altcoin prediction is very easy and it is easy to earn in trading, but today there are new players and all of them are busy getting profit and don't even care whether the market will collapse or not.

I was into Bitcoin back in 2012.

It was exciting there was this feeling that we were changing the world.

The market pumped and dumped back then too but people didn't seem to be interested solely in the price, yet a lot were interested in mining.

Miners got a lot of love back then and people were still very excited about mining money out of their PCs, it was a magic thing.

Gambling was as easy as anything for people even in the United States. The main site was satoshi dice if I remember right. There were a lot of other sites. One allowed you to bet on the outcome of real world events and if you were right you'd collect.

When I first got in bitcoin crashed from $13 to $8 dollars, and I remember telling everyone I knew how they should buy bitcoin.

By the way, not one person listened to me.

Trading was a lot easier and more prevalent, most people weren't yet concerned about taxation, perhaps that's because the size of the money was less, or perhaps that's because the Bitcoin community back then was even more libertarian than it is today. (That is to say that libertarians jumped into Bitcoin first. It was always a mix of computer people and libertarians and others).

For reference, you could mine some milibits with a laptop when I first got in but not much. It wasn't the super early days where you could really mine significant amounts without a GPU farm or  high end GPUs.

Syscoin has the best of Bitcoin and Ethereum in one place, it's merge mined with Bitcoin so it is plugged into Bitcoin's ecosystem and takes full advantage of it's POW while rewarding Bitcoin miners with Syscoin

I could remember those days when I bought bitcoin for just 650 dollars. At that time, chinese had dominance over bitcoin market since they had the lion's share in bitcoin due to majority of bitcoin mining firms located there. The Chinese became the sole authority to decide bitcoin price. We used to keenly watch the changes in China related to bitcoin market before buying and selling bitcoins.Bitcoin was mostly used for quick and cheaper transaction at that time. Most of the world population was unaware of bitcoin at that time.If I'm not wrong, there were no such ICOs at that time.Ethereum was also famous next to bitcoin.Zcash and Monero were much expected at that time because of their anonymous transactions but they failed to survive.Suddenly during 2017 beginning, bitcoin price suddenly rose to 1,000 dollars and bitcoin started to gain attention all over the world. From that time, people started to recognise bitcoin as a high ROI giving asset.

I came in 2014. Basically "just" after Mt Gox.

Manipulation was always there, but the amount of spam was much bearable.
The people had periods when they were unhappy about the price, but the most vocals were the miners. I remember very good the days from the summer of 2015, the price was slowly dropping (went back from gox 1k+ to under 200$) and the miners started stopping their gears.

I start to believe that the amount of "Bitcoin is falling to 0" spam (which is inevitable when the price drops) is proportional with the ATH and the % dropped from the ATH Smiley

Pump and dump was very common on altcoin market. Bitcoin market looked more stable (although Gox was clearly a pump and dump after all).

ICOs/IPOs were on small numbers. Back then there were no platforms to create tokens as easy as today. And building your own coin (usually PoS) meant more work and the need for more skills. Of course the image was much better at start and degraded over time, but scams were there back then too - from fake coins and fake ICOs to exchange "hacks". But it's a big difference if you lose 1000$ and when you lose 100000$ and the recent "boom" of Bitcoin (and all crypto market) has "caused" this. Back when Bitcoin has dropped to 200$ I knew it has to grow, but I never expected that in such a short time will grow 100x. Not Bitcoin.

And we are back to a relationship between scams (and spam) and the ATH Smiley

You don't need to ask people here. Just read the forum's past posts. It's all there to be soaked up.

The 2013 peak felt very similar to 2017 in terms of the mania, but much of the mania has transferred to alts. In 2013 there were only 50 or coins versus nearly 2000 and no such thing as an ICO.

Human nature drives markets and that never changes. Perhaps the figures get bigger, but the behaviour stays the same - FOMO, bubbles, pump and dumps, scams. It's never changing.

There was always the pumps and dumps in the cryptocurrency market. But the hype and popularity was lower in the early days. The hype cryptocurrency is increasing day by day. I think ICOs were more consistent and the rate of scams were less.

Personally, I found the opportunity to meet the crypto world in 2018. However, in 2017, good and bad people in this sector have achieved very good earnings. I am a friend of mine who takes advantage of these good benefits that I refer to. I hope to see a 2018 like 2017 Smiley

I entered the market in mid 2016 and bought my bitcoin for 570$. I never realised that it will grow this much the next year and after few months sold most of it to cover my trip expenses.

Guess we share same experiences. I had 1 Bitcoin as at August 2016 and I sold it all off by November through January, only for bitcoin to appreciate in value to 3000$, I almost beat up myself for not been patient enough.

Thank you for this great answer.
Seems like you have some experience that's for sure.
What do you think about the latest market dump?
does it seems to you like manipulation?
and how do you think the market will react in the close/long term.

I've been HODLING in the last few months and lost a lot of money. I'm HODL till the end, But I would really love to hear from someone more experienced than I do what's their opinion is.

When that was the time that I was so intensely hype and would join the bull run. But I was too late when I got the money then bought Bitcoin and it was already going down.

I feel you bro. Same story here:)

Dont worry dude, there will be exact thread here in few years, like hey did anyone here got into crypto before 2019? And than again, hey did anyone here got into crypto before 2022? We are still in the early days believe it or not. BTC/USD will pass 100k in a couple of years, its just a basic math.

You seem like 100x times more experienced than I do in the crypto world. Can you explain me about this simple math thing? It will be great to have a reason for the crazy HODL I'm doing even when losing money Tongue

ICO didn't even exist a couple of years ago. people were using other methods to scam the gullible newbies  back then. methods such as premining their altcoins 100% and then releasing a small amount of it so that they could dump all of their coins on the market and become millionaires.

Great comment.

You saw probably some hard times for bitcoin since you got in. Did you HODL all this time?
And what do you think about the market crash in the last few months?

There was a hype but not on a scale as it is today. It was mainly popular with the people who were tech savvy or among those who had a sound knowledge of coding. But now, almost everyone wants to be a part of it.

Joined crypto last quarter of 2016 price of bitcoin was around $700 that time. Not much hype though, some news that will push the price and then some healthy corrections. It also hit all-time-high above $800 in 2016.

Was the market easy to manipulate?
pump and dumps were more common?
Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?
There are manipulations already but just minor thingy here and there. Pump-and-dumps are bearable, unlike today that its very obvious. Not much ICO's that time though, as far as I can remember only quite a few in 2016.

Before 2017, it might still be a waste because Bitcoin prices at that time were still small at the end of 2017 and could only feel the poor results that our coins could collect for ourselves.

I do not know how was Crypto market of Bitcoin before 2017. I just know that all my friends know bitcoin and involve in since the middle of 2017, and it was surprised because most of them become rich and got extra income here. They are helped financially through participating in bounty campaign. And I notice from their experience and story is that the market of bitcoin in 2017 was much better than now. Even they said that 2017 was the year of Crypto currency. It was pretty moment of bitcoin due to the high value of almost all coins.

Bitcoin has a history of good and bad times. I know it since it was around $200/300 in 2015 after a market crash. Then it moved up slowly and gradually. I remember the day when it's price crossed $1800, we were so happy to see that price of BTC. But after August 2017 the price kept on accelerating. In December BTC was on fire, everyone had BTC fever, all the news channels used to talk about it's popularity. I hope we see that fame again soon.

But it is way easier to earn money back then. Faucets gives a lot of bitcoins, signature campaigns pays more. If you have worked for bitcoin back then and hold your earnings, you are pretty much well off right now.

Pump and dumps and market manipulation have been going on for years. They're nothing new and will likely continue to happen. ICOs seem to be growing more and more each month but they'll probably die off eventually as investors get tired of all the scams and losing money on them. I think people will become more wise to them and where they put their money and only invest in the ones that actually have something worthwhile behind them, but at the moment the majority of them are just get rick quick schemes.

I've been involved with crypto since 2013 and on this forum since early 2014 and there's always been waves of hype and excitement, but nothing like what was seen late last year as it was just crazy with the amount of newbies that were jumping on board the hype train due to FOMO (which is what I think powered it mostly). I'm sure we'll see many more of these cycles over the next decade or so but I do hope one day bitcoin levels off and calms down and can be used more as a legitimate and stable currency. With so much money to be made and greedy whales and investors I'm sure it will be a fair while before we see that calm however.

As the years go by, technology is becoming more advanced and developed. Before the activities of the crypto could not be done on a simple desktop computer. But now we can do the work on a smart phone too. So yes, the hype has increased a lot from 2017.

pump and dumps were more common?
Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?

I entered into crypto during starting months of 2017. So I learned so much from crypto space and I started investing little bit of my savings to appreciate capital gains. And at that time every investment idea worked because every crypto token is available in cheap rates. And then after Bitcoin Futures came into the picture Euphoria started from people around the world. And everyone started catching FOMO. And we saw the ATH for every crypto token. Then we are now seeing the blood from the market heavily and most of them lost their investment who invested in Euphoria phase. But the people who invested in 2017 starting or before are may be holding because a still they are in profits compared to the prices at that time. And of course they are long term believers.

Crypto hype started even in 2015 wherein Bitcoin pump from its lowest price to around $1000 and more, people started to noticed it also even in the year that the price become only $90, I was reading some stories and they were wrong with their decision selling their bitcoin in $200 not knowing it can go $5000 ++ people were not thinking about manipulating the market since the system does the calculation but as of today there coming up with many various strategy--

Thank you for this great answer.
What do you think about the bearish market in the last few months?
Do you believe it gonna recover any soon?

The reason that more and more people are into the market today is because of the feasibility and the smooth access that we are getting right now. At the same time, before 2017, the tech savvy and the coders were the ones heavily invested in the market.

Before 2017, there weren’t many participants in the crypto market so bigger pumps were less common. But we have seen worse situation than it is now. Trust me, bitcoin is doing much better compared to previous years, we just need to hold on to our patience.

I was a participant before 2017 and the market was volatile like it is now. Every now and then there were pumps and dumps but since there were less investors we would see those pumps and dumps happening at a smaller scale.

Market manipulation was much less before 2017. There were fewer investors and those who got in back then actually did their research. So it was a bit tough for the whales to manipulate but still they always find a way. Back then, the ICOs were very profitable too and companies were coming up with great projects.

That time it was almost like present time. But then number of big pumps was not much. Besides the market of various altcoins was not that high in that time and was not very popular as well

I joined crypto a long time ago. It has been a while now and to be honest we have seen the tough times as well as the good times.
It has been a wonderful journey until now and I hope it continues. Watching btc rise over $1k and then dropping back to $300. Watching it cross $19k and now at $6.5K . This is how it keeps going on.

Perhaps contrasted with now, ICO before 2017 was very little and still practically nothing. However, the ICO is extremely persuading, even the normal achievement. Altogether different from the year after 2017. New ICOs showed up, yet there were next to no persuading, even numerous fraudsters behind the ICO.

Rather than ICO, it was simply standard altcoins promising the world yet conveying significantly less. They were for the most part still pumps and dumps, only less in number. Be that as it may, at any rate, you realized what you were getting before you got it in light of the fact that there was a real blockchain to go take a gander at.

I think the circumstance before the publicity is nearly the same as the present condition, before the promotion the market still full with whales, the pump and dump aggregate were scattered in wherever the ICO notoriety was somewhat better before the publicity, numerous great ventures showed up, the main distinction was its less demanding to win bitcoin before the promotion.

I got into the crypto in 2015. Actually I know about it though a online betting website. That time only a very few people know about it.
I joined this forum later on 2016 but still I don't have any clue about what was going on here. I used to come here and find new betting websites, there was some website who were making give away like 0.00100000 btc or 3000 DOGE just for joining them.

Before 2017 the market was at it's best phase I think. People knew less about bitcoin and only real enthusiasts invest that time. And the crypto projects were also qualityful and there was almos 0 scams. But, all changed after 2017.

I also miss the stable bitcoin market before 2017-2018 and I've also gotten a lot of profit in 2015-2016, and now the price of bitcoin is getting harder to predict.

It was not so different then present time, the situation was almost similar. But that there was not this much popular altcoins and the market of altcoin was not this high which now creates more opportunities in crypto.

Thank you for this great answer.
What do you think about the bearish market in the last few months?

Logically and mathematically Bitcoin should grow. The adoption is big and rising, the coin development is on thew right direction and we talk here about a coin with limited supply.
But by my logic we should not be bullish for months already, still the market doesn't go by my logic.

Unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball either. So I just don't know what's going to happen on short term. Sorry.

I actually got in, in 2016 and the hype was pretty much there too. I could remember that during the time, bitcoin price was below $1,000 and all attention was always on getting the price to $1000 but because of the insatiable needs of human being, we tend to ask for more. The moment $1,000 was touched, then next is $1,500 and on like that. This was what happened till mid 2017 where price was hovering between $3000 and $4000 but took a downturn because of the uncertainty about the upcoming BCH fork.

The height of the hype was witnessed towards the end of 2017 when the price of BCH was on the rise, other forks were coming out which a lot of people believed its an avenue for free money couple with the mass publicity of various social media platforms, We left the below $10,000 to above the $10,000 region. While this was going on, a lot of speculations were fueling the rise but several people even on the forum were talking on exercising some cautions on the basis of the increase although deep down, every one was smiling. But unfortunately, its not something that will last forever and that is what we are seeing now.

Before 2017, it might still be a waste because Bitcoin prices at that time were still small at the end of 2017 and could only feel the poor results that our coins could collect for ourselves.

Oh, I used to mine Bitcoins even in 2013. Then I decided to sell everything that I earned. later, in 2015 I started trading and still I am dealing with this business. It is a fun and an additional money I can get fast.

I got into crypto towards mid to end of 2016 by way of investing into Ponzi schemes and then, later on, In may 2017 I got to know about the trading process how we can trade our coins with BTC and vice versa. The manipulation was still there I think but then it was taking the bitcoin upwards and it was not manipulated in a certain price range like it is now(i blame futures market for this). Ico,s were a big thing back then no one wanted to miss out on the crazy gains which ICO's were providing unlike now.

I'm always wondering who are these people who invested in crypto in 2012 for example Smiley At that time it was something totally unknown and I don't think that someone really believed in it. Don't think something same will appear in the nearest 50-100 years.

Thank you for this great answer.
Seems like you have some experience that's for sure.
You could say that but I am sure I am just a small fish who likes to read more than talk. I tend to observe what others are doing and take decisions accordingly.

Quote
What do you think about the latest market dump?
Dump and pump is a continuous cycle. Just the amplitude of this cycle varies. Note that in the past every dump has been associated with a pump and vice versa. In my opinion every pump or dump is temporary and you should act decisively to profit from the same in terms of fiat or crypto.

Quote
does it seems to you like manipulation?
May be or may not be.

Quote
and how do you think the market will react in the close/long term.
My take is bullish on every crypto market. Be it bitcoin or any other altcoin.

Quote
I've been HODLING in the last few months and lost a lot of money. I'm HODL till the end, But I would really love to hear from someone more experienced than I do what's their opinion is.
Possibly you entered the market in a wrong price range. If thats the case you should not panic sell but hodl till the price crosses again. Then get in at a lower price - watch the market cycles closely to identify which point to enter and which point to exit.

Was the market easy to manipulate?
pump and dumps were more common?
not quite sure but people were more cautious and not as many people into crypto yet
pumps and dumps were just about the same frequency and amplitude,
the difference is the increasing number of people involved and the total sum of money transacted

Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?
back then you need to have your own blockchain for each coin, unlike easily created tokens
with altcoins the common scam was hidden/misused premined coin for developer's own profit
I think ICO started just a couple years back (2015/2016??) when ETH introduced digital asset or smart contract
since then we get flooded by numerous ICO token projects and peaked sometime in 2017

It seems that nothing has changed, only the bottom of the big event was last year, it's bitcoin jumps, which reached a very high price and impressed many people, since at that time it was very unusual.

I've been around since 2016 and I can say that things were not like this back then, ICOs then are well presented and you can hardly stumble upon a fake project ,now that cryptocurrency is getting more popular I guess all eye are on crypto, both ravens, sparrows and eagles eyes .I'm not surprised though because this is what happens when something or anything gets popular ,both good and many bad will follow.

I am here since 2012 and this was a completely different forum. Less spam, more discuss. ICOs did not play a role and they really only discussed over Bitcoins and a handful of altcoins. The whole crypto world was much more manageable than today. The market was manipulated in the same way as it is today. Pump and dumps were as frequent as they are today. Some things haven't changed in time, other things like altcoins have change a lot. Nowadays people are much more open to altcoins, at that time every altcoin was either way a scam in general (even good projects were immediately condemned). Oh yes, the good old days. How quickly everything can change.  Wink

I have found about bitcoin in 2015 and thought that it's just another type of financial pyramid. I joined bitcoin in 2016 after my boyfriend, currently husband, explained me all about it and Blockchain, I joined but still was full of doubts. 2016 didn't ping me a lot of profit, the price was 200$ and I was trying myself in many things, trading, faucets, gambling, commenting. Only from the end of 2016 I began to earn something and in 2017 my earnings raised together with bitcoin. Now I came back on the level of the end of 2016, as I call it "enough to buy bread".

than you ask, you should start to seek knowledge through reading a lot in this forum. this is very important to learn technically, so that you understand market patterns. currently the market is experiencing a pretty chaotic situation in a downward trend because correction is always happening almost every month. this situation cannot be explained by what happened in 2017, but this is an effect from last year.

I spoke with few friends recently about the hype that the crypto market received at the end of 2017.
I wonder how was it before 2017.
Was the market easy to manipulate?
pump and dumps were more common?
Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?

I personally experienced the hype of bitcoin when it hit at $20k and most people wants to buy bitcoin and after few days it stated to dumps the price with almost 70%. The market had change after it hit the all time high as many bad news about crypto that added to sink the price to bottom plus to add the manipulation with those whales.

It took years to the world about Bitcoin and other altcoins come to the public. A wide range of people who believed from the start of the Bitcoin. There were a few of them. Many still haven't heard, but things came out and more and more people are aware of what they are and what they represent.

But if we see Google Trends, it becomes clear that, when the bubble bursts, the interest declines, and some people are out. Talking about a possible future growth, we must take into account that some part of the ripped off people will stay away from crypto. So not too many bubbles we can expect in the future. My point is that, there are a limited number of people on the planet, so once everyone knows, which to some extent happened in winter 2017, it becomes harder to make new people join and buy.

Yes and at that time there was no intereference from the governments. This 2017 December bull run gave crypto unnecessary attention.

The market is before I is better than today because it is easier to earn and Bitcoin is growing organically. ICO is also better than before because majority of ICO before is successful and investors made a huge profit that is why ICO today are popping like mushroom.

I entered the market in mid 2016 and bought my bitcoin for 570$. I never realised that it will grow this much the next year and after few months sold most of it to cover my trip expenses.

This is about trusting the coin we will invest, and i hope this serves a learning experience so it will never happen again

I’ve been here in crypto for three years and all i can say is this is total different from the past,ICO that time is reliable there are only few scam that you cannot even count in fingers legitimacy is their motto, not like now.the legit is fewer than scammers

I was entering crypto market on 2014 but still not too concern more about the price movement because at that time i was lack of knowledge but at the beginning of 2015 i was slightly understand how to earn money from crypto but as far as i remember at that time too the pump and dump were not happened so often such as now even when i was use my local exchange to trading the price still below to $1000 and the volume support still not too high
