I spoke with few friends recently about the hype that the crypto market received at the end of 2017.
I wonder how was it before 2017.
Was the market easy to manipulate?
pump and dumps were more common?
Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?

I am here since 2012 and this was a completely different forum. Less spam, more discuss. ICOs did not play a role and they really only discussed over Bitcoins and a handful of altcoins. The whole crypto world was much more manageable than today. The market was manipulated in the same way as it is today. Pump and dumps were as frequent as they are today. Some things haven't changed in time, other things like altcoins have change a lot. Nowadays people are much more open to altcoins, at that time every altcoin was either way a scam in general (even good projects were immediately condemned). Oh yes, the good old days. How quickly everything can change.  Wink

I have found about bitcoin in 2015 and thought that it's just another type of financial pyramid. I joined bitcoin in 2016 after my boyfriend, currently husband, explained me all about it and Blockchain, I joined but still was full of doubts. 2016 didn't ping me a lot of profit, the price was 200$ and I was trying myself in many things, trading, faucets, gambling, commenting. Only from the end of 2016 I began to earn something and in 2017 my earnings raised together with bitcoin. Now I came back on the level of the end of 2016, as I call it "enough to buy bread".

than you ask, you should start to seek knowledge through reading a lot in this forum. this is very important to learn technically, so that you understand market patterns. currently the market is experiencing a pretty chaotic situation in a downward trend because correction is always happening almost every month. this situation cannot be explained by what happened in 2017, but this is an effect from last year.

I personally experienced the hype of bitcoin when it hit at $20k and most people wants to buy bitcoin and after few days it stated to dumps the price with almost 70%. The market had change after it hit the all time high as many bad news about crypto that added to sink the price to bottom plus to add the manipulation with those whales.

It took years to the world about Bitcoin and other altcoins come to the public. A wide range of people who believed from the start of the Bitcoin. There were a few of them. Many still haven't heard, but things came out and more and more people are aware of what they are and what they represent.

But if we see Google Trends, it becomes clear that, when the bubble bursts, the interest declines, and some people are out. Talking about a possible future growth, we must take into account that some part of the ripped off people will stay away from crypto. So not too many bubbles we can expect in the future. My point is that, there are a limited number of people on the planet, so once everyone knows, which to some extent happened in winter 2017, it becomes harder to make new people join and buy.

I've been using Bitcoin regularly since 2012 and certain aspects of the community back then were a lot more fun.
Here on the forum, there was less spam and people were coming up with all these cool projects etc.
Felt more like a tight knit community back then.

I mean you still have that a little bit now, but to a lesser extent.

The whole ICO craze was also pretty much unheard of back then, so a lot less scamming going on in that area.
Not that there wasn't any scamming though, the amount of money lost through this forum is pretty staggering.

Just go and check out some of the older loan threads, some pretty funny and sad stories to be found.

Anyone remember Dank Bank for example? Tongue

Side-note: I know you want to hear about the market back then, but you can just go look at chart for that. I think there's already enough focus on that aspect of Bitcoin, just felt like talking about some other stuff.

Yes and at that time there was no intereference from the governments. This 2017 December bull run gave crypto unnecessary attention.

The market is before I is better than today because it is easier to earn and Bitcoin is growing organically. ICO is also better than before because majority of ICO before is successful and investors made a huge profit that is why ICO today are popping like mushroom.

I entered the market in mid 2016 and bought my bitcoin for 570$. I never realised that it will grow this much the next year and after few months sold most of it to cover my trip expenses.

This is about trusting the coin we will invest, and i hope this serves a learning experience so it will never happen again

I’ve been here in crypto for three years and all i can say is this is total different from the past,ICO that time is reliable there are only few scam that you cannot even count in fingers legitimacy is their motto, not like now.the legit is fewer than scammers
