The atheists would survive, because they took actual action instead of blindly hoping for some nonexistent uberfather-figure to save them.
Realistically, it would be up to the atheists (as usual) to save the people around them who do nothing useful.

I'm so glad it's not a stellar event then if an Asteroid is headed towards us.
It's that ficticious uber-father figure gullible/uneducated people call "god".

But the book "revelation" is pretty much in line with other science fiction "OMG the end is near! Sinners repent!" stories - they're just science fiction.

However it can't physically change anything, move an object, or stop an asteroid from hitting us.
