It's not really strange, but more so desperate. If you have to cover that sort of content it clearly points out that there isn't anything else to report about.

Mainstream news outlets use crypto as buffer in case they run out of regular content, which on the other hand is also understandable. It's a business at the end of the day, and they have to keep their clicks and other hit rates at certain levels to demand premiums for their ad space. What interesting or juicy stuff is happening in the regular (non crypto) world right now? Boring times.

It surprises me more that people are still surprised about this.

How on Earth you can keep civil a debate where Roger Ver is participating? Smiley Actually, I think the hosts weren't even expected civility in this event. But, on the other hand, that's not that bad, the otherwise not interesting for mainstream audience debate hit the news! Now people who read MailOnline(over 10 million daily visitors on average), the website of the Daily Mail, a newspaper my school teacher disparagingly called a tabloid, will have more idea on what Bitcoin is. I think it's a positive news overall. Although I wouldn't call Roger Ver "Bitcoin Jesus". Idk, is that true? Do people really call him that? I thought Bitcoin Jesus was Andreas M. Antonopoulos. It's a gossip about a subject that many seek to know more about. Nothing was said about Bitcoin or cryptocurrency. The subject of the article was exclusively about how ridiculous the whole event was.

An event at the beach, with people wearing swimsuits and a person in a cowboy hat arguing with a person wearing a cap. If it were not for this event, it would be another event with several Lamborghinis.

An event at a University where Phil Zimmermann talks for 2 hours on issues related to cryptographic privacy. Or with Antonopoulos explaining the quality and necessity of decentralization will never attract as many clicks as two people fighting over a stage.

I'm not so sure about that. We're years ahead now, and the media still doesn't know what they are talking about. The most we can expect from them picking up Bitcoin related news is more drama and fud.

They are the first to report about every bit of negativity, but don't want to put any effort in rectifying fake news articles like we have seen about Goldman Sachs recently. They want to see blood on the streets because that sells.

Although I wouldn't call Roger Ver "Bitcoin Jesus". Idk, is that true? Do people really call him that? I thought Bitcoin Jesus was Andreas M. Antonopoulos. Smiley
Title that the media came up with but no one uses in reality. Roger can't even decide for himself what Bitcoin is anymore. One moment it's Bitcoin Core BTC, then Bitcoin BTC, then Bitcoin BCH, then BTC version of Bitcoin, and so forth.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

Yeah, I guess my school teacher was right then. ) But I still think that any news is better than no news. It's one of the first rules of marketing, if I'm not mistaken, "Make Yourself Known." If people heard about something they can then research for themselves and form an opinion. But they wouldn't do it if they never heard about the subject.

Thanks for the clarification! I googled images for "Bitcoin Jesus" and was shocked that indeed there were many pictures of Roger Ver popping up. But after reading your post I did more research and now I think that even though Roger could earn the nickname for his early advocacy for Bitcoin, today it is used mostly sarcastically.

Agreed. Eventually people will even find out how to use the mainstream media as counter benchmark, which is basically what happened with CNBC in the more recent months, and it actually worked pretty well.

CNBC invited cryptomanran (their crypto "expert") to say how we according to his analysis will fall down to around the $5300 mark, and the price went straight up from that point.

Another opportunity was when Brian Kelly said how Bakkt will make sure the price will increase when China wakes up. Instead, the market took a dive into bloody waters. Short their excitement and long their fear.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

I think DailyMail is really classified as a tabloid newspaper and if you are really looking for a reliable news provider a tabloid newspaper (and even its website) is really not what you want to read first. This kinds of news providers will always focus on having a catchy headline rather than the content itself as a catchy headline is what generates more readers or views that is why their news reports with this one made it into their front page. But slowly this can bring their reputation down when majority of their readers will eventually learn that their news are a piece of shit.

I guess those of us who've been here a while are so unobjective it's still jarring to see mainstream coverage. I can't help but picture some red-faced old goat reading that and wondering what the fuck it's all about.

I remember when I first hear Bitcoin being mentioned in a local movie in 2016, cracked a lip hearing it, used by a rogue detective who supposedly had the coins in a hard drive in a suitcase. This not so long after a Bitcoin ATM syndicate appeared in our local daily too, typically in the crime section... It is still jarring to me but a gossip section on Bitcoin socialites? That really is some kind of other level, especially cause the only ones who still watch local movies or read local dailies are old geezers in coffeeshops who fought the Japanese back when.

Brilliant.

'This is exactly why no one likes to debate Roger because he does stuff like this,' Song exclaimed. - I am glad he said it, because Roger Ver's primary strategy when he debate someone is to assert dominance. He wants to be the Alpha male and he wants people to know that.

The unions in our company often try the same tactics and they also try to push your wrong buttons to unsettle you, so that your thought pattern is interrupted and this force you to make mistakes in your presentation.

You will often see Roger Ver making controversial statements or using personal attacks to evoke anger in his opponent. This might originate from his training into Martial Arts, where you have to intimidate your opponent to break their concentration.

All of this are cheap tactics and easily identifiable by the trained eye.  Wink Take Roger Ver on at the technical level of the technology and his wheels falls off.  Grin

this is not the first of the cryptorelated articles I'm reading by them:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6163075/Bitcoin-cryptocurrency-plunge-80-value.html
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5912755/Over-800-brands-cryptocurrency-dead-Bitcoin-falls-70-time-record-high.html
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5839395/Bitcoin-hits-4-month-low-currency-exchange-theft.html

There seems to be a general negative theme underlying those articles. They may be publishing more crypto-related articles, but they definitely aren't promoting Bitcoin. The fight between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash promoters lends itself readily to the standard theme - negative crypto news which sells well.
