hey guys,

Some coins meanwhile hide transaction information - how much you send and who you are sending to your IP address on the network.
There are a lot of "privacy coins" out there, what do you think, which will prevail and be at the top?
Lets start an vote and discuss here Smiley

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

privacy or anonymous coins often cause controversy, but like it or not we need it. we know that privacy is an important thing that must be maintained and should not be known by the public, I like monero and I think monero still being the leader of other privacy coins.

There is one winner here and that is Bitcoin, I know some people think BTC is not a privacy coin but it is absolutely one and will certainly shallow all these Altcoins. There are alot of privacy features that would be added to it in coming months and the tech would be better than what if have seen in the space

In my opinion, Monero is at the very top of privacy coins. It has Ring Signatures, Ring Confidential Transactions, and Stealth Addresses. It is pretty stable and it is being used the most. I expect the pool results to reflect this.

Monero is the best and that won't change. So many of these other coins may be good for privacy but fail in so many other simple areas such as having vulnerabilities when it comes to security.

Yes Bitcoin is one of the best crypto  but it is not a privacy coin. Monero is the best choices if you want a privacy coin and besides it has a ring confidential transactions.

This is not a good profit to be a winner because the winners have been held by Bitcoin, but it all depends on the public interest in privacy coins, I don't like it because it is too much to be not transparent with what is obtained and what transactions, it will raise concerns about buying and selling illegal, being the best depends on the demand for privacy coins.

in the choices given, monero won because many had it and remained stable in trading even though it was hidden in the trade it still made a lot of profits and might be ready to be stored in the long term

Monero is undoubtably the king of privacy at the moment however whilst I hold XMR I’d say that my favourite at the moment is actually Spectrecoin (xspec).

What attracted me to this project is it’s small marketcap, it’s pos rather than pow, ring signatures, inside the TOR network so both sender and receiver remain anonymous and they are planning to release stealth staking in Q1 2019. New dev team have released the white paper, new website and recent fork to allow development contributions to ensure the project continues driving forwards.

Deff one to check out yourself rather than taking my recommendation

There are some more privacy coins like Hush and Ryo that should be added to this list. I do not know who will the winner but top privacy coins like Zcash and Monero are good to hold.

Hold Spectrecoin, Sumokoin and have held Verge in the past (pre Pornhub partnership).

Agree Spectrecoin is a really interesting project a has potential to blow-up. It has some great tech, but as we know best tech does not always mean leading coin...

Monero has best network effects... but TBH long term it looks like privacy features will just be integrated into the main coins anyway.

I bet on spectrecoin, but in future.

I mean now they have pretty good anonymity thanks to ring signatures and TOR(also coin have good block and sinc time if you remember Monero wallet speed). But now they have POS on regular wallet adresses. I think, when they make stealth staking technology on stealth adress then this coin will be really good for anonymity.

I hold Monero, Komodo and also some XSPEC. I have strong faith in Monero, am holding my Komodo til I can at least recoup my investment, and have totally given up on XSPEC. Yup, I fell for the shilling back when I was a noob and while I haven't lost a lot, it's definitely been one of my best lessons to date.  There's a lot more to a coin than talking the talk. Today's trading volume was less than 5000 USD. I mean.. come on. If XSPEC is truly as amazing as posters claim, then why isn't anyone buying it? 2.5 BTC total in buy orders on the order book in your highest volume exchange (Cryptopia) doesn't exactly inspire confidence moving forward,.. Huh

AFAIK there's already a thread that's asking the same question.

And the answer that thread got mostly is with Monero. That has been the best privacy coin.

The question is: Why would you need more privacy than Bitcoin already offers?

Already waiting for the XSpec-Shitcoin-Shills spamming the thread Grin

Because you want to be able to spend your money without worrying if some scrypt kiddy is going to target you for extortion or worse. If Hal Finney and the Evolution devs can't make BTC private enough, there's little hope for the morons on bitcointalk. But I'm sure your OPSEC is flawless  Roll Eyes

There is also Bitcoin Private, Shield, DigitalNote, ZClassic. Shield i think has the most features. They claim to be quantum resistant and they are multi-algorithm. But it doesn't mean that it will win the race. Monero is the most popular. ZCash is also not bad.

There are some loopholes in monero I just read in one article that I forgot. They have specified it very well. If I remember the token that is better than any other privacy coin I will put it here. But for now my vote goes to Komodo.

As the PM for a privacy project I would like to offer my two (or maybe three) cents regarding privacy coins. Take this into account when you consider whether a coin offer privacy or not.

- In any UTXO based cryptocurrency (most known cryptos), the loss of anonymity can be twofold; tracability and linkability and any coin that proclaims that it protects your privacy needs to cover both in equal measure, i.e. protect the sender and the receiver of a transaction.

- Tracability can be understood as determining who sent the payment, who initiated the transaction to the receiver, i.e. if multiple transactions exists on the blockchain, can we establish if they were sent by the same person. The sender's privacy can be protected by using ring signatures (Monero, Spectrecoin) or ZKP (Zcash, PIVX)

- Linkability can be understood as determining who the receiver of the payments is, i.e. if multiple transactions exists on the blockchain, can we establish if they are sent to the same person. The receiver's privacy can be protected by using stealth addresses. However, with the use of stealth addresses it is essential to consider this fact; if at a later date, the recipient seeks to consolidate funds from different stealth address transactions to create a new transaction using those inputs, the previous transactions become linked. If fact, if any stealth address transactions are spent to create a single output they become linked. So in effect, unlinkability via the use of stealth addresses only holds true until the transactions are spent due to tracability.

Since spending inputs is a potentially tracable event, tracability implies linkability when new transactions are created. So, a privacy coin MUST have means to protect both sender and receiver and using stealth addresses alone without ring signatures or ZKP is simply not enough.

So, when you asses a privacy coin have this in mind and immediately disregard cryptos that use stealth addresses only and ask yourself how do they protect the sender's privacy.

So, I believe Monero is top of the list and Zcash and of course Spectrecoin.

Looking ahead try deeponion, the roadmap and current price makes it a very attractive investment. An immutable online database and soon smart contracts are just 2 great features that differentiate it from other normal privacy coins

I own Monero, Spectrecoin and Zcash. If you’re going to invest in privacy coins please learn the difference between each privacy feature. Mandica who is the Project Manager of Spectrecoin explained very well what features to consider when investing in privacy coins.Below is a brief overview of the major blockchain privacy mechanisms that are implemented in cryptocurrencies

CryptoNote and Ring Signatures
As used in: Monero, Spectrecoin

Pros:
•No need for a mixer and mixing is done automatically
•Can be implemented with privacy on by default
•Anonymity increases as time passes as outputs become the new inputs of new mixes
•Hides transaction amounts when implemented with RingCT
•Well researched cryptography

Cons:
•Scalability issues because of large transaction sizes and a non prunable blockchain
•Risks of blockchain being deanonymized in the future or through incorrect implementations
•Cannot take advantage of existing Bitcoin ecosystem and requires separate integration work
•Ring size is practically limited

Zerocash and Zcash
As used in: Zcash, Zencash, Komodo

Pros:
•Potentially the best anonymity set encompassing all coins minted and breaks transaction links between addresses.
•Proof sizes are small and fast to verify
•Hides transaction amounts
•No need for conversion to a base coin and anonymized coins can be sent directly to each other.

Cons:
•Private transactions take a while to generate (almost a minute on a decently powerful computer)
•Complicated trusted setup that has to be done by the developers.
•Incorrect implementation or leakage of trusted setup parameters can lead to forgery of coins.
•Supply cannot be audited therefore forgery can be very difficult to detect.
•Uses relatively new cryptography

Zerocoin and Zcoin
As used in: Zcoin, PIVX

Pros:
•No need for a mixer
•Very high anonymity in the many thousands (if not more) with a single mint and spend transaction and completely •breaks transaction links between addresses.
•Retains supply auditability
•Uses well-researched cryptography

Cons:
•Proof sizes are currently large
•Requires a trusted setup
•Incorrect implementation or leakage of trusted setup parameters can lead to forgery of coins.
•Some care is required when doing Zerocoin mints and spends.

Cryptocurrency Tumblers and CoinJoin
As used in: Dash

Pros:
•Works on top of most cryptocurrencies without the need for specific consensus rules
•Relatively simple to implement
•Lightweight

Cons:
•Basic anonymity
•Requires mixers to be online
•Earlier implementations involve trust in a third party mixer

Sooner or later there will be some sort of regulation in the crypto world and once that happens privacy coins will be in trouble if there is no way to check who is moving money and where to. I like Monero the most.

Monero all the way. You can argue that all the other coins in the list are superior, but none of them actually have passed the sort of tests in stress and utility the way Monero has. It is like Bitcoin,,, first mover and "poorest" technology, with altcoins all superior. But then come to stress, overloading the network or attacking it, Bitcoin is too strong unlike other alts. Monero is the same among all privacy coins.

Anyway Bitcoin will also be developing privacy upgrades so maybe one day even privacy coins are useless.

  • Using BlockDAG paradigm instead Blockchain.
  • Atomic Swap (soon)

I believe Spectrecoin has most room to grow by value. The Tech is amazing and the tech team is very efficient under Mandica's leadership.
With market turnaround & overall market focus on privacy coins, I can definitely see Spectrecoin going back to ATH of 5$ and behind. Definitely holding some.

Looking ahead try deeponion, the roadmap and current price makes it a very attractive investment. An immutable online database and soon smart contracts are just 2 great features that differentiate it from other normal privacy coins

I'm curious if any Deeponion fans can explain how Deeponion protects the privacy of the sender in a transaction? I don't think deepnion does that at all and neither do Verge or DASH? What other schemes to protect sender privacy do we have besides Ring Signatures or Zerocoin / Zerocash ZKP?

Please enlighten me, someone....

i say it is going to be Monero as the kind of the anonymous coins for the foreseeable future.

i have seen many anon coins so far and some of them may even be good but the thing is there are problems with most of them. for instance they don't enforce privacy features so they are not really fully anonymous. or some don't even have strong obfuscation to make them anon.
so a coin like Monero that has been working fine and more importantly is old and has adoption already can keep its superiority.

There is one winner here and that is Bitcoin, I know some people think BTC is not a privacy coin but it is absolutely one and will certainly shallow all these Altcoins. There are alot of privacy features that would be added to it in coming months and the tech would be better than what if have seen in the space

You right dude, bitcoin is privacy coin and theres a lot of stupid and fool people there claiming that its not i dont know whats the motive behind this maybe they just wanna put down the number one coin so their shitcoin may have good position and ratings.but in the end it was bitcoin who i choose

The only fool is someone who doesn't understand the corolation between pseudoanonymity, linkability and blockchain analytics--if you can't put these concepts together and really need privacy, have fun with authorities or criminals looking to monkey wrench you from your stash--though I'm guessing if you can't make the link, you aren't hodling enough for it to matter in either case.

The thread says privacy coins, I'm sure that you know bitcoin is not anonymous as everything can be tracked in blockchain and chain analysis can accurately narrow down the address and chances are you 99% they are correct.

I think Monero will win the race as evident of the price. We might not have enough data though because after all its privacy coins and no one will admit that they have been using Monero to hide their stash from government. Monero is like the Bitcoin of privacy coins, plus they have the technology to back up its claims as the top coins in terms of privacy.

Huh

Its because the XSPEC team is too busy focusing on improving the tech and implementing stealth staking rather than marketing

Monero is certainly awesome as many noted before me, and it will be around for a long while, but I don't think there will be only one winner of this race. To be honest, I am rather rooting for a PoS contender, Spectrecoin, and if only one vote can be cast, I vote for this one. At some point, the advantages of PoS over PoW will flip this race.

I like all privacy coins, but Monero is the best for me. I think it is worth to hold such coin for long term. It is valuable, popular and it has really great team and community. So, my choice is XMR.

At the moment monero is definitely the coin of choice. But for the future I think Spectrecoin will win the race.

My reasons:
-Spectrecoin uses POS which is energy friendly and you can make money buy simply holding coins
-With stealth staking and Ring CT it will be on par with monero in terms of anonymity
-Plus Tor it also hides your IP

The team is very dedicated and full of fantastic ideas.
If spectrecoin will decide in the future to use
+sharding
+ an own overlay network for hiding ip and handle large traffic
it will be also scalable.
Then it would be king.  Cool

Stellar is not a privacy crypto. However, you're right. XLM's performance in the current market has been nothing short of amazing. Alongside BTC, XLM is making a good hedge

What kind of confidentiality can you say in all these coins, the leaders of the vote? Monero shows your ip and it's easy to track. Spectrecoin, too, is not yet anonymous, but it will bring revolutionary technologies, the question is only a couple of months. So my choice is Spectrecoin

Monero and SpectreCoin seem to be the favourites but I voted for one that is not on the list. The one I think should be included in any discussion of the future of Privacy Coins is DarkPayCoin. It is in its early development stages but it is one you will be hearing a lot more about in the near future. If you are intertested in finding out more about this MN/PoS coin you should check out the announcement thread. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4971135.0

anonymous coins or privacy are one of my favorites and Monero is an important asset in my portfolio. indeed, there are a lot of opposition and ugliness that are often mistaken for this coin, but like it or not we will need privacy coins.

IMHO two coins from list can win the race. This can be zcash because they have a lot of money for new development. Or it can be KMD because they working hard and their blockchain is very fast as I know.

It seems to me that these are only assumptions, since the current state of the crypto-currency market will negatively affect the development of all projects.

To be honest, I'd stay away from those coins. IMO the real privacy coin that is the only one worth holding is monero hands down. It has been shown to be the most private coin out of any of the other coins out there, and it has been around much longer than most of the other privacy coins out there. Small supply as well, and there are a lot of features with the wallet that other coins don't have. Not to mention you can mine directly in the wallet which is pretty cool. Buy monero!

For me, monero is too strange. The main question for me: on what money works their team. You can work for free or for premined coins for a year or two, but after what will you do? You will be tired from that and go to another project. Buterin some time ago said that z snark can be implemented to eth, how will this affect to all privacy coins? For other coins to be really private they must have the huge quantity of operations or this will be fake privacy.
So if I understand how works monero development I will agree with you.

While Monero is clearly a leader right now among privacy coins with it recognition, reputation and technology

If you're looking at the best possible gains - I'd say that XMR is rather "safe" investment, than a "money maker". Its like S&P500 stock.
You could do couple of X's at best, but like not much more than that.
Because everybody knows how awesome it already is. So all its features are already priced in

Meanwhile XSPEC (or Spectrecoin) is a type "of your secret gem" (return wise, great USP technology/very low market cap) investment

XSPEC is currently priced only at 6 million market cap,
with a determined on Stealth Staking technology (call it Proof-of-Stealth if you like it) professional team

I ve got a couple of arguments to consider in my opinion of why XSPEC will be massive:

First - it has USP (unique selling product) which is Stealth Staking (while Monero is on PoW)
Second - the price already hit 6 dollars at once, but with a change of the dev team and project management, that has created uncertaintly among users and overall bear market, it ultimately felt to where it started.

Now it starts to gain momentum back again:
- Last one or two months many Articles start to come out (Crypto community that specializes on research starts to notice)
- WhitePaper
- New Website
- Constant new version clients and work on automatic builds
- Stable funding mechanism
- GitHub activity

All those things point out that we have a potential "winner" here at current entry points

Donations. People who care about the project donate their time and/or money. The reason a corporate model  doesn't fit for a privacy coin is because the team can be corrupted or targeted. The question shouldn't be "why doesn't Monero use a central team funded by an ICO or company?" It should be, "Why does any privacy coin risk their project by centralizing development?"

hey guys,

Some coins meanwhile hide transaction information - how much you send and who you are sending to your IP address on the network.
There are a lot of "privacy coins" out there, what do you think, which will prevail and be at the top?
Lets start an vote and discuss here Smiley

I vote for Horizen of course <3
I would like to add that it isn't just an altcoin, but a platform with different tools focusing on users privacy. For example, ZenChat is their messaging application and prevent metadata leakage and encrypted with algorithms

Privacy or anonymous leaves me in dilemma, what should I go for. I think Monero is the best choice when it comes to privacy coin, but I would rather go for PIVX or SpectreCoin, why mined it when you can stake it.

DeepOnion is different in that it focused on marketing, community building, and exchange listings first, to ensure a good development fund for the future. Sender privacy will be released later using multi-signatures to hide the transactions. Although Onion is trading at a higher price than XSPEC it will go even higher when fully featured with sender privacy included. Onion is listed on over 15 exchanges including Kucoin, RightBTC, and Cryptopia.

Horizen is a very good platform a lot better compared to what the poll listed. The coin is undervalued right now but for sure it will a lot more used than other privacycoins. From the last update about Horizen:

- DAG protocol is nearing completion
- DAO treasury and voting system
- Side-Mainchain model is in progress

Zen (ex Zencash)
ZenChat
ZenPub
ZenHide

Are all build on Horizen

I‘m missing Pirate

PIRATE is the best of Zcash (ZEC) combined with the best of Monero (XMR).
It’s a forced Shielded-transactions (z-transactions) only blockchain, meant for completely
anonymous transactions. PIRATE is mined into a transparent address, but can only go into a shielded address from there.
PIRATE is an independent blockchain built using the Komodo Platform assetchains. PIRATE is feature complete for its goal: complete anonymity.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4979549.0

This is an example transaction:

That or they checked to see which coins have richlists. Even if you don't know how a cryptocurrency works under the hood, you should be able to at least figure out that a privacy coin needs to keep what's in your wallet a secret.

I am confused as i do not know what you mean by privacy coin? Why do you say that the list of coins are privacy coins and how can you say that? Any thing that really exists or you are just saying for the sake of posts? Why all other altcoins are not in your list. Kindly list out public coins then. Lets raise the voice on public coins. I know that these are only crypto currencies.

Monero is the winner for me. Dssh I'd the runner up but it seems that recently, the foundation appears to be taking a very corporate approach. Nobody would guarantee that in the future it would be as reliable it its structure keeps becoming more centralized.

hi guys, on the digital age, privacy is more than something we need, it is a right...
most people still didn't realize that privacy is fundamental for human society. On old times, people close the curtains, or build walls... but nowadays we need VPN's and private transactions...
I would choose monero due to its solidity and policy  Grin

If we are actually to look at the way things have been and the most used privacy coin so far, I would say Monero will do it for me, but looking at the real world and how completely privacy coins may end up suffering a lot with the existence of regulations and government trying to tag down on this one’s as a result of AML policies, it may be hard for any of them to thrive if there is a clamp down on them.

In a way, they will be easy to attack if government through regulations call out for the delisting of privacy coins which in a way will affect them pretty bad. Just thinking of possibilities anyway, with the market maturing every single day and tending towards regulation.

Well, we all know some things are our right, but we also have to understand that as much as you see it as a right, that is one thing that can easily be abused by some, which is one of the reasons why I would not actually be putting my mind too much into any privacy coin in the long term, knowing that this is something that would be hard for government to allow.

Unless we do not want to be truthful to ourselves, there are some things that would always affect the growth of certain coins like this in the long run, most especially when they are being used in the dark world and it is calling for concerns.

Good money does bad things--always has and always will. If what you're using can't be used by a drug dealer as well as foreign dissident afraid his or her totalitarian government, then it's not cash. This isn't complex.

Of the tokens I put on the bat from the coins of course monero, others are not so relevant and stable. Especially the last two of the list. Although a lot of coins for me in the market remain a dark box with an unknown future.

In my opinion, Monero is at the very top of privacy coins. It has Ring Signatures, Ring Confidential Transactions, and Stealth Addresses. It is pretty stable and it is being used the most. I expect the pool results to reflect this.
And this is so; even a Zcash cannot overcome its advantages, so there is nothing to discuss here.

If you love zcash, then look at Pirates (ARRR) - it’s a Zcash Fork , only invisible adresses/transactions (no transparent adresses) + secured against 51% attacks trough Btc Hashrate with Komodo‘s dPoW . There is no Metadata for Chainanalysis on the blockexplorer.

Yesterday we have integrated Sapling in Pirates and Komodo

I voted for Monero, because most investors are not specialists in technical solutions, but rather believe in those projects that are longer on the market. I think that Monero has the best chance of winning this race, mostly because he is already a bit grandfather for anonymous coins - just like Bitcoin for the entire crypto market.

There is one winner here and that is Bitcoin, I know some people think BTC is not a privacy coin but it is absolutely one and will certainly shallow all these Altcoins. There are alot of privacy features that would be added to it in coming months and the tech would be better than what if have seen in the space

Idk for you but if seeing the public address and transaction is privacy to you, that's not for those who can track the trail of that into an exchange that has a kyc so it's not really that anonymous. Monero used to be but a certain hacker already know how to keep track of a certain user and is not really totally anonymous but I voted since it's the closest. Hoping to really find one that can be really untraceble.

While governments are trying to find ways to track Bitcoin transactions, the privacy coins became a need for the Crypto market, because there will always be people who do not like to be tracked. Monero and Zcash are the most popular, but I think adding Zcash to CB will advace it a bit over the others.

ZCash has an actual chance of flipping Monero.
Pivx is the most undervalued.
Monero is still an important part of every portfolio - it's the gold standard.
DeepOnion's airdrop seemed like a cool idea but in reality none of the holders cares about the coin so it has no future.

This is an undending race I believe, so we don't know who will win, we will only know who will prevail among the rest, because cryptocurrency is a very saturated market with no regulation, until there is one, that is when we will no who will be the true privacy coin the community will choose Smiley

After sapling upgrade, PIRATE is ready for super fast mobile 100% anon transactions by default ... so cool!

I don't think anything compares with PIRATE now for ease of use in the anon coins, BUT, keep some XMR as a backup.

Yeah, it's amazing how many posts in this thread are just fanboy replies and lack any technical support to how they could be better than PIRATE. Someday, they will be sobbing buckets of tears because they missed the ARRR ship.

hey guys,

Some coins meanwhile hide transaction information - how much you send and who you are sending to your IP address on the network.
There are a lot of "privacy coins" out there, what do you think, which will prevail and be at the top?
Lets start an vote and discuss here Smiley
And there is a race, I do not feel this. You have approximately correctly placed the coins on the positions in your list, the monero was, is and will be the first. Other coins are only doing their own improvement.

Among all of those you listed, Monero, Dash, DeepOnion are the best. Without these three, all are vulnerable. Although lately Monero was also called vulnerabl. Dash is backed by masternode. So, DeepOnion is the best from all the angle you check.

I prefer monero and dash, and I invest there. from a few months ago, I benefited from trading monero and dash. Their market is good, I think they have a good future when this market grows again. vulnerable problem or not, I think all crypto assets have it.

It seems that Monero is more popular and still good for privacy coins, but I also see Zcash and Dash still moving well in the market, the support of the community will make it stronger.

I thought that Dash is dead Cheesy. What is their progress? There was a hype in 2017 because Dash offered a good return when you had MasterNode, but that was everything.
