First this is hilariousetc's idea and he came with it  when I bumped the Newbies can now pay a small fee to enable images to try to reduce the pile of the new topics in Meta. Now I just try get theymos's attention.

Bumping this one with request go get temporary pinned.. It will decrease the amount of complains posted on Meta for not working ANN images.

It probably would be better to put either this and/or the new Merit requirement update in the "News" section at the top. At least everyone can see it then and there's probably be going to be a hell of a lot of users confused or complaining about it today and over the next week or so as people start to realise something has changed.

Can we use the News Feed of the forum to announce the current changes and avoid /reduce/ the whole drama for the Ann managers?

Just a simple message like this should do the job >

New requirements for ranking to Jr.Member , read here, If you experience a problems embedding images due to newbie restrictions you need to buy Copper Membership or earn 1 merit.

That would be a great idea if members used the news feed. I suspect that most don't.

It's almost impossible to miss it, every time you go to click on the menu there you most likely focus your attention to the "News: Latest stable version of Bitcoin Core: 0.16.2" but since this message is there for many days now, you don't see it anymore. If it changes, you differently pay attention to it, trust me.

I saw that when there was a bug in Electrum and came into the news feed. I spot it right away. I'm sure that it will work.

But I am afraid with that, I have created a post about this too..how about past posts with images..those posts are now weird without images..suggesting to leave past posts with pictures on those.

Well it's kind of there are the top so many people will see it, but I agree this update should be included there. Maybe put it in red as well to grab attention. I think we should probably put a link to the rules up there somewhere also or at least include a link to the 'newbie welcome message' I proposed. That way at least there's a source that includes all the info you need to know here and everyone has the chance to see it which I'm sure most will at some point.

I think the only thing it has been used with (other than bitcoin core) is the electrum vulnerability.
I did ask a while ago if we could use that feed to announce the new versions of electrum (as I understand theymos also uses the software) but that was shunned because apparently it's just bitcoin core's updates that should go there...

it'd still be nice to see a bit more news in the news feed (we've been stuck on 0.16.2 for a while now).

Members don't even read the stickies at the top of each forum.  :/

Maybe using the word "merit" should trigger a popup or something. If popups are diabled, then use a page redirect. Smiley

I think the feature will be added in the upcoming new forum software. and I believe such features will really be nice, so that members can easily catch up with the events happening in the forum. also a thread was created for members to make suggestion on what features they will like to see on the new software, you can make your suggest on the thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0

Yes, I think this option will surely reduce the stress and hussel of someone saying " I AM A NEWBIE AND DONT KNOW THE RULES"
