I thought I would share by story of bounty hunting and shit posting (unknowingly) and my thoughts on the bitcointalk forum spam issue.

For the higher ranking members types posting in here that won't share merit with your wife if she ask for one (thus robbing your own wallet and not helping a loved one because it broke forum rules) may want to stop reading here.  This shit may cause you a heart attack and I would hate for you to blow a gasket before the next bull run happens.

The first time I visited the META section or even knew what it the hell it was is when the entire forum lost their shit for being ranked down.  Wow what an eye opener.  The entire forum is based on shit posting!.  If you don't come in and study the rules (I hate to break it to you but as is fairly obvious no one reads them)  your going to automatically assume this is a shit posting forum and if you want to earn you join the mix.  When the entire forum is one shit post after another and you know most people do not read the rules well your going to get a ton of shit posts as everyone is following the format.  Do you really think a guy who is excited about making some money on the internet is going to come in and pour over the rules? What planet are you guys from?

This forum allows you to advertise on it to make money via signature posts.  You open up this forum of money making to 7 billion people of which about 5 billion are poor as shit (probably 6 billion).  You then have projects on here requiring 15 posts a week to take part in the signature program.  You bet your ass your going to get spam with a setup like this.  Hell 99% of the bounties don't even pay or pay a 0 value coin and you still have a spam issue.  Imagine when the market goes back up again?  The shit posters are going to come in at an even more furious pace.

The way you stop shit posting is to stop signatures.  It's that simple.  There would be no incentive.  You have people paying people on this board to post and most of the people don't speak english as a first language.  What do you expect to happen?  You going to get guys who if they make a dollar a day can feed their family coming out in droves trying to better their life.  I doubt they are going to just quit.  Especial when there going price of merit is around 10 bucks.  The risk/reward is in favor of paying the 10 bucks and continuing says you spam away.

You can't have signatures and earn while crying about wanting nothing but quality postings.  It looks as if the upper level members are greedy as they wont give up their signature money to clean up the forum.  All you boys have to do is stop signatures and fix the forum up and have next to no spam.  I didn't think so.

This post is not an attack or meant to piss anyone off.  It's just absurdly obvious that if the forum needs to be only high quality postings then you need to remove the signature campaign.  You can't cry about shitty posts when you allow 500 projects to pay people on your forum for making shitty posts.

Or just ban or boycott projects that employ shit-posters in their signature campaigns.

There are many people on this forum that use their signatures for non commercial purposes and people that are good forum citizens that participate in genuine campaigns.

While I agree that the signatures cause problems,  It is not the root cause of the problem. Closing the forum down would also stop the spam - but is also not an adequate option.

Banning new users from posting would also greatly reduce spam or hiring thousands of moderators on bounty style payouts to censor posts but are also not adequate options.

Those options go against the values that the forum stands for.

I have already attacked ANN threads that use shit-posters to bump their threads with large images warning of shills and how shilling is investor fraud. It tends to work and I would encourage others to employ that method.

Signature campaigns are a bit more complex because I suspect a lot of the signature campaigns are on organised on telegram or externally of bitcointalk. I have viewed numerous profiles that make no mention of any signature campaign or any posts about joining a campaign that are clear shit-posters. They are either farmed accounts or participating in a signature campaign organised elsewhere.

Personally I think a shit-poster tag would be a good option. It is something a user automatically gets if they get a number of posts deleted and automatically lose once they obtain a certain amount of merit.

We are surrounded by legends on this forum. Phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures. Then there are the scams. This forum is a digital museum.

Signature would not be the problem at all,  managers are the one responsible choosing participants to promote the project they are handling, without them accepting shitposters and spammers then it will be not an issue regarding to bounty spammers,  being picky is not optional to a manager but it is the best way to lessen and to support the forum.

There are no confessions in there except that you did not care about reading the rules when joining the forum.

Rest of your post is a judgement about the "high ranked members" as well as the "third world shitposters". Instead of looking outward and judging others, look inwards and tell us a real story. Your sweeping statements that "the entire forum is based on shitposting" is nothing but an amateur insult to a place you don't yet understand, or probably aren't interested in at all.

This problem and its severity has increased only recently. The signature campaigns were never a problem before the ICO craze so your judgement lacks merit. There are those who care enough to keep trying to improve the situation. The forum is still the best place to coordinate buying and selling real goods and services with bitcoin. It will continue to be so because a lot of originals are still around.

Stop trying to judge or snub the people here with your sarcastic wit. Talk about yourself.

Forum is wel aware that newcomers do not search for the rules when they join, that is why there is an active initiative to make a welcome message with the most important information to educate the new members.

Altough you have some valid points about the availabilty and the pay of the signature cmapaigns regards the poor people , thus making this a easy way for them to make money while samming this forum, the merit system is working and new rules are implemented and then analysed to ultimately stop new spammbies and farmers.

The sad part is that both the forum and the bounty hunters are getting a bad deal from the poorly run Signature campaigns.

This comment from a bounty hunter that I have been chatting to made me think:

Quote
I have many coins in my wallet, most of them are from scam projects.

A lot of the bounties promoted by shit-posters are scams:

They lure others into scams.
They risk getting red tagged.  (Negative trust)
The obliterate the forum with crap posts.
They risk being banned for poor posting practices.
They get paid in worthless scam tokens.

They will never rank up and be able to participate in well paying respectable bounties where they can earn real Crypto by promoting something that will make others better off too.

What can you do if you have poor English skills ?

You can enhance your local language board by writing articles there. Learn about crypto and learn English if you want to post on the main board.

JetCash has a great project for learning English. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3081595

Translate great articles into your local language - ensuring that you cite the source of the article (so you don't get banned for plagiarism) and if it is a post on bitcointalk it pays to ask for permission from the original poster.

Some of my posts get translated into a variety of languages by some very skilled translators. Sometimes they earn more merit than I get for the origional post. (Good translations are quite hard work so it is well deserved)

People with good post histories are attractive to reputable bounties and signature campaigns. If you write good content then you are likely to get into a good well paying campaign that is not a scam.  Then everyone wins.

We are surrounded by legends on this forum. Phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures. Then there are the scams. This forum is a digital museum.

good point but you missed the core problem... those stupid greedy bounty hunters
why they keep joining and advertising scam projects?
why not ignore those projects that pay in their own useless tokens?
force those projects (/managers) to pay bounty in BTC or ETH on weekly basis

You have people paying people on this board to post and most of the people don't speak english as a first language.  What do you expect to happen?
I expect them to make effort to learn english, make themselves sufficiently qualified for work
if they don't speak english well, they should learn adequately because that is required in their bounties
workers get paid for quality work and get fired for mistake or negligence

in real life, do you apply for a technician job position if you graduated from business school?
adapt, learn new things, improve yourself, so that you can carry out your job

Definitely do not agree that the entire forum is shitposters!  Huh

Like many others on here, i have said before that there is an awful lot of spam. It dosent take a genius to work that out. However, its undeniable there is plenty of great pieces of info which have helped and educated me further in crypto, you just have to have a look for it thats all.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people who are joining now are here for financial gain via the forum. No real interest in being part of the community or engaging in any real conversation or learning about anything. Its just take take take, and offering nothing but spam in return. Thats where the problem is.

Beside learning English, improving knowledge, skills on blockchain technologies in general are very helpful.
There is link to my topic on available courses on blockchain technology, most of them are free courses.
Available courses on Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology from colleges and Univers
English is one of essential stuffs to learn for newbies, especially non-native English speakers, but they would prepare enough knowledge, skills in crypto ecosystem.

More detailed guides on how to use the BTT forum's search function.

For the OP author,

No need to start a new thread to discuss about this issue. There are abundant dozens or hundreds of available topics, in which you can discuss your ideas.
I thought I would share by story of bounty hunting and shit posting (unknowingly) and my thoughts on the bitcointalk forum spam issue.

What are you talking about? Only constructive threads/ topics will earn merits (as the original purposes of @Theymos when launching the merit system and new rank requirements). Simply talking about real deserved-merited threads, not fake ones which receiving merits from exchange, abusements, etc.

During early period after the first day of merit system, the Meta board has been covered with totally shitshow from spammers, shitposters, merit-complainers, etc. However, most of things fixed, lots of non-sense topics deleted, moved to trash can, and as you all can see that by now, there are very limited topics on merit system in Meta board.
Moreover, it is totally wrong to call the BTT forum as a shitposting-based forum, LOL.

At this point, you are right, my man!
Learning forum rules, structures, guides, etc. are very neccessary to start spending users' time in the forum.

If you don't come in and study the rules

@Theymos stated that someday in the future, he can make a final decision to prohibit all advertise, bounty campaign in the forum. Fortunately, it is the final solution. Recently, new rank requirement which required at least 1 merit to rank up to Junior Member rank implemented to more efficiently control spammers, or at least stop hurting eyeballs of forum users by reading shitshow from shit-posters.

The problem is some bounty managers most especially in altcoin bounty didn't even make an effort to check the post history of their participants, like the more people flood their bounty, the better their payment. So what's for? They see spamming a good way to advertise their scam ico.

You have people paying people on this board to post and most of the people don't speak english as a first language.  What do you expect to happen?
Firstly, nobody forces us to join here and I assume that we knew that this is a english forum and we should be the one that putting effort nor make adjustments to it. And so the local section is made for the ones who aren't comfortable in using this language.
