It's simple, you can definitely mine using a laptop, but you definitely won't get any profit at all, instead, you'll get a good loss.

BTW, I seriously wish that newbies start to use that "search" button before posting anything like this again; but oh well, not every wish comes true!

I actually got 2 old computers(that are way worse than laptop) But they dont really start up. So in order to buy them new  things to make them  work again it would be a huge investment for me(i am only 19 without a job currently).
Should i use  My laptop..? my friend told me that its a bad idea because it wont mine enough btc   and its just not worth.
 my laptop has these
8Gb Ram
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.60 GHz
64 bit...?
I am not an expert at this tbh . Any opinion/reply will be appreciated !! Thanks a lot

Listen to your friend yet he do actually know on whats the best for you because he's already aware on such things and he do already have the experience. Mining to that crappy laptop wont really give good profits not only on mining bitcoin but even mining on altcoins will still be unprofitable. You are just basically wasting up your time and resources. Dont bother to buy any parts for the sake on making those old computers work because it would be still useless. Better to buy a coin with your money and then hold it.

It is quite funny that no matter what we say here in this thread, some people want to do this anyway.  Cheesy

I say go for It!

Laptops usually have a good efficiency. Even if It's not profitable It would be fun to try It.

Your CPU should be good at cryptonight lite V1. I recommend you JCE miner. Take a look at aeon, turtlecoin and plenteum. You can mine these cryptos with your CPU.

It' probably not a good idea to mine with a laptop, I advise you to try bounty/airdrop, can be done with a laptop and will bring far more coins, good luck

Yes, it is not recommended for mining using a laptop. It can make that laptop too heat, and in the end, it will blow the processor or anything inside the laptop. And if you still want to mine, then I suggest you buy the hardware or buy a new computer with any VGA inside that computer, and you should buy a lot of VGA so you can earn big rewards.

it's not really worth mining with your laptop.
if you still insist then do go ahead and find some cpu based coins to mine but don't be expecting groundbreaking returns.

i would believe, you can gain more from selling your laptop rather than mining
I supported what you said but base on the OP standard concerning mining issues. I will advice him/hervto start new altcoin which are holding some ICO or which are yet to hit the market cause most miners don't usually focus in those coins but I will need another laptop (HP envy) to do that

makes sense, this could work.
maybe perhaps finding new coins and mining them on alternate weeks or something along that line.
cool concept but yeah need some effort into research but should be fine.

Damn..you right.  Cheesy
I made a few comments here (in this thread), just for the simple word "NO". In the end, I'm tired even just for say NO.  Roll Eyes

As of today you should actually forget about it. You will end up reducing your laptops hardware lifetime and even damage it to beyond repairable state. Mining is a very intensive activity. You laptop won't be able to handle it and lets not forget about the heating. You will end up damaging your laptop by overheating it. The power you will be consuming will also not be worth the few cents you will be mining every month. Better get proper mining equipment and save your laptop.

agree with this.

in conclusion, it's more worth to really invest in proper machines to yield even more profits and faster too..

After reading thru this thread it would appear that many don't know their hiney from a hole in the ground about CPU mining. The correct answer is YES you can use your laptop to mine however, that does not mean you should join a Bitcoin mining pool. You will need to concentrate on CPU mineable coins and algorithms only and trade those for Bitcoin at an exchange. Example algos: HODL, Yesscrypt, Argon2d and spin offs, and a few more. Mine CPU only coins and you can profit. Of course you can mine some of the cryptonight algos and neoscrypt BUT, you will be competing against GPU cards and ASICs, so stick to competing with other CPU miners instead.

Your hardware determines which algo works best for you, so let's start by looking at your i7-4510U cpu. It's a 15 watt CPU that supports all the required instruction sets to mine HODL, ROI, Unitus and other CPU coins very well. That particular i7 supports the AVX2 instruction set which is great. There are CPU miner programs that take advantage of AVX, AVX2, SSE,SSE3, SSE4.2, AES, and a few other CPU instruction sets, your CPU supports all of them. For mining software I'd start with a google search for "cpuminer-opt-3.8.8.1-windows" and use the program's AVX2 start exe file for most CPU coins. Your CPU will probably also do around 130+ H/s mining Cryptonight Heavy, but it's a GPU coin so you'll be competing with them.

Cooling can be an issue for older laptops so make sure you have cleaned out the cooling vents with an air duster so everything is clear for good airflow. A $20 cooling pad for it to sit on is also a good idea but not required. The algo you choose will also determine how much electricity used and how much heat the CPU will put out. This is an important consideration. HODL algos like ROI coin run warmer than Argon2d like Unitus Coin. You'll also notice a much higher hashrate on Argon2d algos as well using the AVX2.exe start file. The coin you choose depends largely on your CPU supported instruction sets so you have a choice of any of the CPU coins as your i7-4510U has the required instruction sets for all of them.

Forget about solo mining. Join a pool. Solo mining only works for brand new coins over the first few thousand blocks, it becomes almost impossible to get a solo block briefly after the coin goes live. Suprnova pool has few CPU coins like ROI, HODL etc. That's where I'd start.

Mining is all about return vs cost of electricity. Your 15 watt i7-4510U is not gonna pull much electricity while mining so you should be in the green already. I wouldn't run out and buy brand new laptops for mining mind you, but mining is a perfect application and use for older equipment that was just sitting in the corner.

The same guys that are losing $2+ a day mining with a S9 Antminer will try to tell you not to CPU mine. LMAO, sure you may not get rich overnight mining CPU coins but you certainly aren't in the negative as they already are..........The main thing to remember and consider is to stick with CPU coins only and you'll be in the green.

If you need any help with start batch files or anything else, just message me and I'll be glad to help. I don't claim to be an expert but I do make a profit mining CPU coins.

Chris B.
