I'm really pleased I started this, I'm having fun playing with the HTML and CSS, and I found a CD with a Brahms violin concerto on it.

The only downside is that I've just received a McDonalds signature burger with fries.

What’s this to do with awarding merits?

(NO one has fun with css)

Finding good posters on your travels is a good idea. You’d could probably look through the lists that loycev and piggy have to see who you have previously merited at the rank of member or below and add them to your list.

(Can’t be arsed correcting my spelling, apple did a forced update of my keyboard so now I’m sad)
Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I think a good way to find a merit-able post is to always check out the thread you are most interested in regularly or you can create an engaging topic in any section and watch how members will engage on the topic,

Give that thread a time of one week and it will turn into a shitposter shitcave spamming for their bounty-hunting. Most of the posts done by the new members here is regurgitated repeat cassette of the same idea because of the following reasons:
1. The OP forgets about the thread - it was meant to be a shitposting spree.
2. OP does not want to address the replies.
3. OP does not lock the thread even after getting a good opinion/solution.

I want to try to encourage the newer members, and perhaps save them from giving up their memberships if they become discouraged.
I do see that as well, it is pretty evident the ones who are complaining about the merits system in boards (especially the meta thread) are members that are ranked Jr. Members or lower. Just by reading a few of their threads shows that they feel the merit system is a way to stop them from ranking up and receiving higher pay in bounties. This kind of encouragement where their worthy posts are awarded with merits will make them change their minds that the merit system is not an unfair system after all.

I'm fed up with ignore lists, reporting, blocked boards and all those negative technique that we seem to be forced into using here. They are necessary if one want to stay sane when looking for meritable posts.

I'm going to build a list of favourite posters with a rank of member or lower, and I'll check their latest posts on a regular basis, and award merits if they are deserved. Don't spam me, or request to be added to the list, as that is tantamount to begging.

Do any other merit sources do this? I might make the list public to encourage some of the new members. After all, ignore lists can be made public, so why not list the good members.
I don't know if this is actually implementable but yes we have seen a huge number of newbies, junior members and even members pointing out that this merit thing works like the actual world. The riches stay to the riches even if some newbie deserves it more... I have seen newbies who have made only 1 posts and are so worth appreciation but are never appreciated. If a legendary member posts a thread that might be useful but not as much, they get uncountable merits.
I hope this initiative of yours help and encourage all members to never lose hope and to keep giving their best to this forum.

Pointing out of capitalistic/centralized system by self-righteous spammers? Nah, I would rather listen to what I think is right and keep those newbies on ignore;they dont deserve the next few ranks and they can keep complaining.

Appreciation depends on following things :
1. If a merit source ever visits that section or not - If they dont then the "newbie is out of luck"
2. If the merit source, who if visits, has enough merit to spend or not - Same reason as above
3. Whether the poster is a bounty spammer and comes once a while to make a post - Dont expect merit sources to merit those people unless accidentally.  Grin

Not everyone is after bounty payments! Yes i have a sig. posted but I do not get paid for it.
But being a member here is a privilege, to learn from some of the best (crypto-world users).

Yes the merit system is real world! Would you give
A "Bum" 1 BTC to party on
OR
Give it to a "Family" in need.

Hard choice
Does the family deserve it? If yes then they will get it in due time, If not then they will give up asking!
The forum (IMO) is trying to tell the "Bum's" to FUCK OFF

But yes I have seen some of the "HERO" AND "LEGENDARY" members get merit for "Just saying Fuck off"

I believe that current board policy is not the best to deal with spammers and the encouragement of good posting. All the emphasis seems to be on the posts, and not on the poster. The mods spend hours deleting rubbish, and there seems to be some tolerance towards the vipers nests of spamming alts. The posters put a small amount of effort into a few posts to scratch some merit, and then continue with their policy of creating jetsam to pollute the boards.

I would like to encourage some of the new members to learn about Bitcoin and the crypto economy, and the way that it can be used to improve their lifestyle, if they are living in a country with a challenged or oppressive economy. You can't really do this just by looking at individual posts. I decided that one of my unused domains could be used to highlight and encourage these members. I'm going to use the domain https://SnowEagle.com to do this, but I'm still creating the basic site, so I haven't added anybody yet. I'd be grateful if I could be notified if the community things that I have made a mistake by including any members.

It has been suggested that I should allow a "snow eagle" to provide a short bio to be added to their entry. Does the community think that this would be a good idea? I know that this can be included in a profile, but it would speed up scanning by merit awarders if there was a simple comment about the poster.

None of the above - and I don't discriminate against people living in the US. I was going to try for a pilot's licence in Oakland, but ended up as a ski bum in Tahoe instead. Smiley

I'm afraid the the Snow Eagle project is a personal decision, and there is no application process. You need to be a good contributing member of Bitcoin Talk, and hope that you get noticed. Other merit awarders have more formal threads that you can use.
