Hi all, I graduated college in may with my English B.A. and I am going to start a blog in the near future (TBA) but i'd like to start on a novel now because I know I'll be a best-selling author some day (maybe). Anyone have any advice/tips/suggestions for staying motivated?

The advice doesn't have to be specific to writing, you can include mindfulness ideas, etc.

This isn't really bitcoin or coin oriented in anyway but this site is a community full of like-minded individuals in the crypto universe and we should also bond through our crafts and skills.

So calling all writers, poets, readers, thinkers, business-men, philosophers, etc.:

- what helps you stay motivated?
- do you follow any routines?
- what do you write/read about?
- do you think writing is an important skill to have in the crypto world?
- what are some business/art/creating/thinking books?
- who inspires you?

Feel free to reply with names of your favorite authors and poets please!

Err. Probably not the answer you're looking for, but I suggest asking these questions on other communities instead. A quick Google search showed that these communities are probably best for your niche:

Best of luck!

Try reading the books that were also now a movie. There are lots of these and you'll realize how the author described detailed things that directors hadn't. I like reading books, action to begin with like Robert Ludlum books "Borne Identity".

Or you can try watching the best series you can find,  great writers of series like the breaking bad. The writers of this series were also the writer of X-files.

A favourite author of mine is Asimov, particularly his short story ensemble... Sometimes I feel he gets so little exposure outside because of his sci-fi tag, but I think there hasn't really been any distaste for short story anthologies... And I can't wait to read something solid related to perhaps Bitcoin or who knows, maybe even cypherpunkery.

Methinks a lot of untapped material that would work pwrfectly for the short story mould.

You are the only one who can find the answer to that. You have your own set of preference so just find it.

Think outside the box or much better if you removed the box. A writer has a wide of point of view and imagination. Take time exploring it.

- do you think writing is an important skill to have in the crypto world?

Writing is good but obviously it's not mandatory to have that skill in crypto world.

If you want to take your writing skills in crypto world, take that as a challenge and make it as one of your purpose. Goodluck.

Motivation's always been tough for me while I wrote in the past in general. I often got unmotivated to write new articles as a copywriter, and that problem was omnipresent until I stopped. I can't give you a lot of advice in this area as a result of this, but I suggest just simply doing something else. This Reddit thread deals with that topic a bit, but in the end fighting a lack of motivation is unique to each person.

As for whether or not writing is a necessary skill in crypto, I don't think it is. Reading and having a good comprehension on what's going on at any particular time in the world of crypto is a much more important skill that many people haven't fully mastered.

I think the "creative industry" is often underrated - writing, making music... artists will always struggle to put monetary value to their work, mainly because businesses still don't want to pay for quality - or there is a lack of perceived value for quality. Just like with art and music, writing, however subjective quality may be, is reduced to formulaic content that has proven success and can be learnt. Average writing is cheap and easily available, so there is that to contend with as part of motivation.

Crypto and blockchain to me falls under technical writing, even in marketing contexts... but as I mentioned above, few have the creativity and technical understanding to dare attempt blockchain/Bitcoin/crypto fiction.

You're right though. Contemporary knowledge of what's relevant and interesting, with insight from the different segments of the "Bitcoin community", should probably be a prerequisite for anyone wanting to try writing a book on crypto or blockchain.
