Good Day Everyone ! I don't know if it has been discussed before but these are just my thoughts & opinion! If it was discussed already just reply to this thread and I will remove it !  Wink Thank you!

Upon reading the META thread topics, mostly all of the topics are regarding with merits, spam, account buy & sell & account banning.

So in my opinion what if the management of this forum puts a KYC like registration to a new forum registrants to be able to reduce or maybe stop the issues that has been mentioned regarding with merits, spam, account buy & sell & account banning.

These are the list of advantages and dis-advantages below:

Advantages
1. This will surely avoid or minimize account farming because account farmers cannot make multiple accounts for them to be able to farm because they will be required with a KYC so they will not be able to make more fake accounts
2. As per mentioned in #1 this will result in reduction of account buying & selling because this will lessen the production of fake farmed accounts.
3. In regarding with merits, merits donator or those high rank people who gave merits can avoid wasting their merits in some farming accounts because all of the new registrants are legit accounts (I suggest that the account might be inserted or tagged with "KYC Passed" Logo)
4. In regarding with SPAM these will also be reduced because accounts or users will be afraid to make spam replies or useless topics because they are aware of being banned and if they are banned they cannot be able to register again because their old account is in KYC so they can only use one identity or because of the use of KYC if they register again with same identity they will pay the fees that is necessarily needed for them to unbanned or registed again with a new account in the forum.
5. In regarding with account banning if there where people who relentlessly reporting someone with no valid reason and causing someone to get banned, and if the banned user appeal and it was proven that his/her is innocent the management can put a designated sanction for that user who reported wrong.
6. Also KYC system will be helpful to those traders, bounty hunters & forum users to avoid getting scammed because they will know the identity of the person that has scammed them and has a red trust, they will be able to warn others outside the forum about this person who has a bad record. This will help traders outside these forum and for them to avoid scam.
7. It will be also very helpful to those ICO's accounts because people will be able to identify if the project was scam and it can be also avoided.

Dis-Advantages
1. Those users who are already on the forum will not go with KYC system thus it will still result in account selling, spamming & account farming.
2. This will be a lot of work for the management because they will check each and everyone's KYC application of new forum registrants.
3. This will not totally result in zero scam, account farming, account buying & selling because users can still use different identity of their friends, families for the to be able to create multiple account.
4. This will result in identity theft and if someone make a bad thing it will reflect to the person that has been registered on the KYC application.
5. This will be to harsh to those people who committed mistakes and get permanently banned because they cannot be able to register and participate in the forum again.

Those are the advantages & dis-advantages in KYC for New Forum Registrants if there is something you can add just reply to this topics. These are also just my opinion and thoughts so if there are words or things that has been mentioned that is not appropriate please say so & I will going to removed that in this post ASAP. ^_^

This topic might be able to help clean this forum and for everyone to treat this forum with respect. I hope this will help because I also wish for the best of this forum ! Smiley Thank you and have a great day !

Anyone who suggest KYC in cryptocurrency space shouldn't use cryptocurrency in first place and keep using fiat (exception for centralized exchange and few merchant). I would rather leave this forum rather than give my identity.
Even CloudFlare implementation is enough to make good member who want preseve their anonymity left this forum.

If we want to prevent spam, scam or merit farming, disable signature and remove bounty child board are better option.

TLDR : Your idea can go to hell.

What about old users ? If new users need KYC than old users should be also. Because rules is applicable for all user. If forum required KYC than what about satoshi  profile Huh He has created this forum and you are suggesting to removed him (indirectly).  I am not fan of KYC especially for cryptocurrency which is itself anonymous.

And it has discussed before and theymos not going to implement right now.

And exactly what documents is the OP suggesting that people provide to Bitcointalk to prove their identity? I am certainly not going to provide a picture of me holding my driver's license just so that I can shitpost.  Cheesy

In this case I think all those in the forum should not need a KYC, long ago the forum has implemented practical ways to improve the SERP of a forum / website.

However, after registering in the forum. I recommend that all (Bitcointalk members) read the forum rules before creating a thread or post. Make a thread in accordance with the niche theme of the blog on the relevant subforum so as not to spamer, off topic, farmer account etc.

(remember the discussion in the forum is always monitored by the moderator).

KYC is not necessary if all understand the rules in the forum that members follow.

example:
<> Mix with other members and integrate well.
<> Don't blindly put backlinks to the forum and don't carelessly spread backlinks.
<> Make a relevant thread on the subforum theme.
<> Make the appropriate comments or discuss the contents of a thread.
<> Not saying dirty words, SARA and spreading hatred.
<> Read, remember and obey the rules of each forum.

Example:
You know this person:

Code:
1. [satoshi]
2. [theymos]
3. [mprep]
4. [hilariousandco]
answer: (definitely) no?

I think with all this the problem is over? no need to KYC and publish our real identity.

FORUM is not a Bank or government immigration office, where money and data are stored?

What a dreadful opening post. It must be the worst of the multiple KYC threads that have been started.

I was going to give up on my ignore list, but that formatting and those redundant images reminded me of the reason for putting posters on ignore.

As you already stated people can always go around a KYC process. And that would only increase the amount charged for accounts, and for a while till everyone becomes acquainted with the new system.

And also multiple accounts is not against the rules,  a lot of members and notable members at that are known to have multiple accounts. Only when you break the rules can any user get the full repercussion.
Multiple accounts was allowed so a user can alienate himself from some suggestions or opinions he has  by using different accounts
But it has been misused by users, so you see where the problem really is

This happens to be the worst suggestion in the history of worst suggestions,KYC on bitcointalk forum is simply a joke..

This forum is not some bounty telegram group, or bounty rewards group were you have to complete KYC to claim some shitcoins, this happens to be the largest bitcoin community in the world. And anonymity happens to be one of the most important features of this system/network,as it keeps one fairly safe from scammers and fraudsters

I doubt any user would want to give up his identity/anonymity at the expense of his/her assets/investments simply to come and post in here, think of a better suggestion, this one deserves to be in the trash can.

Terrible advice. I strongly disagree and cannot be accepted.

1. Here is a forum, you have to figure out what the forum is doing? The main function of the forum is to communicate and discuss, not for trade. Have you seen any forum that needs KYC? KYC is only be used to places with money deposit/withdraw, such as banks or exchanges, in order to prevent money laundering and other crimes. Although has some OTC acts on BTT Forum , this is not the main.

2. If the cost to reduce the account farming is to sacrifice everyone's privacy,do you think it is worth it? This is to copy the PRISM plan to the forum, have you forgotten the fear that PRISM has brought to people?

3. For those ICO/Bounty scams, the responsibilityit is government not forum, and KYC is not the key to eliminating ICO/bounty scams, and deposit for bounty will be a better way.

4. For those abusers of bounty, the responsibilityit is bounty manager not forum.

To be clear, the forum is not the world police. I can be sure that what you said will not happen.

A simple search for "kyc" in Meta would have got you your answers. As has been proposed and discussed numerous times before this isn't ever going to happen and nor should it. All it would do is put off the small percentage of actual genuine users who come here and just want to talk about bitcoin or get some help, while those who stand to profit from being here would find any way they could to bypass and abuse the restrictions. People can easily buy fake IDs and document scams and the farmers would be the ones doing this because they stand to gain from it. If I signed up to this forum and it asked me for ID and KYC verifications I'd be like fuck this shit and not even bother completing the registration.

Even I honestly skips sites and bounties that requires KYC especially those who needs Passports and National ID because its so hard here in the Philippines to get that ID's .. I fully understand and supports each and everyone's opinion in my thread/topic and take it as a part of my learning so in the future I will be able to make a topic that is far more meaningful than this.. As has been proposed and discussed numerous times before this isn't ever going to happen and nor should it.
No kidding--and I don't know of any other discussion forum in existence where you need to prove who you are in order to be a member.  And to have that absurd requirement on a forum about a form of currency based on anonymity and populated with individuals who value privacy is just stupid, stupid, stupid.

Bitcointalk has a lot of problems, yes, but all of them could be handled without resorting to KYC measures.  I wouldn't trust the admin with any of my data anyway, given how many times the forum has been hacked.

I completely agree. It's ironic how the main forum of the main decentralized technology we have right now it's aiming to be the most centralized thing with thoughts like this. I wouldn't support this KYC system and I'm sure this forum can die if implemented some day.

Despite of the lots of work moderators should do to maintain this working it's curious how humanity tend to being authoritarian with measures like this. This is why government keeps existing so far till now...

This will never happen. The huge amount of time required to check the KYC one by one is on one side. The other side of the story is that I am sure 90% of the forum members are against KYC. This is against the mere fact that everything in cryptocurrency is Anonymous. If you want to do KYC why not just give all your information to a bank and start an account.

Bitcointalk has a unique problem with getting paid to post and obviously we've still got a long way to go to try tackle that. I get why people are suggesting such things as KYC and their heart is probably in the right place as it would undoubtedly curb a lot of abuse, but it's just simply not practical and isn't ever going to happen. We need to find alternate ways of tackling the issue and I think punishing those who continually pay people to spam is the next logical step and would help a lot.
