So what's the idea for this coin in a few words?
There is a community telegram run by one of the miners. I'm going to make a website sometime soon. There is no roadmap and no whitepaper. Coin is 6 days old and I'm doing everything by myself, so you're going to have to be patient. Maybe it will be a total failure, I don't know myself at this point. Just mine (or don't) and enjoy (or don't).
The idea is to create a fair, mineable cryptocurrency. This is not a quick cash grab or an attempt at one. It's really that simple. No gimmicks, no hidden plan. I have some ideas in my mind for protocol upgrades, but it's too early to discuss and it'll just generate unnecessary weight on my shoulders with people asking for them every day. I also have no plan to pay for an exchange listing, however small the fee might be. I am a miner just like you and hold no premine/dev fee. Coin is one week old and already there is an issue with regards to difficulty adjustment. Maybe it was just an unfortunate event or maybe a deliberate act that a miner or group of miners joined the network last night with 200+ GH/s increasing difficulty tenfold, and then left after a short period of time. What you're seeing now is a delay in block production caused by that. If this was in fact deliberate and keeps repeating I'll have to address it quickly. I'm aware of the options that are out there. This is a fork of blackcoin, so codebase is pretty old. So, we haven't had a PoW block in 17 hours thanks to some asshole who stopped by with his farm for 2 hours and thought it was a good idea to push difficulty upwards. Not even sure there are people still mining. PoS still works, transactions get sent, blockchain moves forward if you need to make a transfer. This is not perfect, but it's something. If not enough power joins the network soon, I'll look into a way to reset difficulty via some rule and release a new binary. Would probably be best to change the difficulty adjustment algorithm as well... I don't know, funds are safu for now. On second thought... There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Though it does make it difficult for those of us who just found this now and are trying to mine  Can't try out PoS without some coin... can't get the coin without overcoming the massive difficulty coupled with the lack of base hash :/ |

Is it possible to mine using the wallet (or miner) solo using GPUs? I know I can mine in a pool with gpus, and solo with CPUs... |

Is it possible to mine using the wallet (or miner) solo using GPUs? I know I can mine in a pool with gpus, and solo with CPUs... sure, it's possible. just need to make a .conf file with relevant information, and then: ./ccminer -a sha256q -o http://127.0.0.1:6997 -u yourrpcusername -p yourrpcpassword |

My 21 core cpu data is the left column ... Before I turned on 2 1080ti GPU's. The right column is after I turned on 2 GPU's
My 21 cores have not received anything but I'm gonna let them run for a few hours and see. Please dont fry me lol, it would be expensive to replace, lol.

Difficulty changes based on how often new blocks are found. With low network hash rates it is more about luck and that's why you see such fluctuations. BTW, this sha256q algo on CPUs will probably not be able to compete with GPUs. GPUs will give a lot more hash rates. My 21 core cpu data is the left column ... Before I turned on 2 1080ti GPU's. Is there any specific reason that sha256q hashing algo was chosen? Also what version or date of the blackcoin code did you use for this fork?

It's because between you checking on gpu someone hit a block. Diff adjuststment is erratic, because of low hashrate and large fluctuations. |

No other reason than allowing cpu miners to mine it for a while. There was a coin around 2 years ago with similar parameters (sha256t), that launched and died soon after because community didn't pick up development. I loved it and mined it but nothing came out of it, nobody stepped up. It's called OCP now, you can check it out. So 2 years and some C++ later I'm the guy to continue original contributor's vision I guess. We'll see what happens. |

So the purpose of the coin is to be a currency/store of value, am I correct?
It has also unique combo of the blockchain parameters, POW/POS hybrid and new SHA256Q hashing algo.

Well, there is https://github.com/bitbaba/bitgold that forked from some algo to sha256q a few months ago of which I wasn't aware of before. I made a pull request for sha256q to be added to tpruvot's ccminer repo and if accepted it should be included in his official releases. Pyrite is designed to be a store of value and reward scheme is quite unique. PoW/PoS hybrids were kind of big in 2014/15, but usually PoW and PoS rewards were designed to be the same so it was just a gimmick to end PoW quicker and switch to full PoS. |

How do we fight 51% attack if somebody with a lot of hashing power will try to take over the blockchain?
Right at this point it will probably not going to make sense as there is still not much value. If the coin gains value and hash rates remain low then it is a problem.

Wish I was around when blackcoin started, i know a guy who retired with that coin
There was a coin around 2 years ago with similar parameters (sha256t), I saw reference to that today elsewhereIt's called OCP now, you can check it out. So 2 years and some C++ later I'm the guy to continue original contributor's vision I guess. We'll see what happens. |
