Appreciated. Who else???
8bitcoder - the dude developed the coin that satoshi nakamoto was aiming to create when he made bitcoin but failed to take in the posibility of asics, myriad coin's concept is asic proof by accepting asics and providing alternative algos for gpu and cpu miners to mine and get the same share as asic miners. the concept is brilliant and won't stay under the rader for long trust me read about it at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483515

+1 for the creator of Darksend technology and DGW (fixes KGW vulnerabilities). EDIT: credit should go to gmaxwell for coinjoin tech. Awaiting a full release of darksend to see what's innovative.

I don't think you will be able to afford the smartest crypto minds unless you have millions to invest. The reason I say that is they can already make millions without you. Best to find the coins they are developing and invest in them.

Quark and Worldcoin has the brightest devs this moment. Quark however is mined out, and I am not sure how to judge it. (coin wise, the devs are good, MatrixFighter seems well knowledged) Worldcoin seems like it will keep going upstream, the devs are smart, and eager to regulate. (Kevorsen appears particularly well rounded on knowledge on their forum.)
and of course, the Litecoin group. They are doing well for a reason.
and I am not saying this out of anything, I have been observing, and looking to do similar to you. hey, we can share info if you want to.

Great question it is nice to have a clue who the people are behind the coin... It's good to know who is behind the coin that someone chooses to invest in. Especially if they aren't that savvy at reading code. this is just my imo but I doubt I'm alone.

Greg Maxwell, who is levels above and beyond any altcoin developer in terms of ideas. He's too busy doing core implementations to mess around with coding forks extensively, though.

dr.kimoto chan - megacoin (kimoto gravity well inventor)
A glorified piece of code that in the end, does very little other than modify the difficulty ever so slightly. not saying it isn't an innovation, but you can't put chan in the same sentence as sunny king. dude's a fucking scientist for crying out loud, when people read peercoin code its almost like reading an alien dialog.

+1 for the creator of Darksend technology and DGW (fixes KGW vulnerabilities). Darksend is based off of gmaxwell's CoinJoin idea and the DarkGravityWave is just as vulnerable as the KimotoGravityWell. The source is available for comparison. Apart from the previously mentioned ArtForz, Sunny King, etc. I think Balthazar, the Novacoin developer, deserves a place on that list. Hate or love Novacoin, he knows what he is doing. Don't forget SolidCoin!DGW and KGW are nothing special, so i agree there. just little pieces of code that are flawed and need more work. +1 for Balthazar as well. I can only imagine the time he put into fixing the problems with stake calculation(and the blocks to go back patch i think he made as well)

Quark If you're claiming the Quark guy is a genius, then that would mean he knowingly created a pump and dump coin with an invalid, PoW distribution method since there's no way someone who is a genius could have designed a system like that on purpose not knowing what would happen. Unless he had delusions of grandeur and dreamed he would surpass Bitcoin market cap and be worth thousands of dollars per Quark and support the network through mining fees within a month. We might be imploding into a system of PoS only coins as people lose faith in PoW from decisions like this.

I would definitely say sunny king, he has created the whole pos system which went on to be used in coins like nxt. He also made PrimeCoin which was the first coin to use it's hashpower for something useful.

Well one thing is for certain, he will either be at the top of the list, or bottom of the list after checkpoints are removed. I would prefer the conspiracy theory be true of Sunny King, Bcnext, and Satoshi all being the same person, cranking out endless amounts of scam coins, and going down as the greatest pump and dump master of all time.

I hold a diploma in Computer Engineering and what I can say is that most altcoin creators are not real programmers, the code of these altcoins is often bad and redundant, no rigour, no discipline. You can't learn programming by just reading and searching on google. You can't learn C++ without getting a small education in C. I didn't watch everything but the code in bitcoin, ppcoin and ripple looks good and serious.
