This is really interesting and very innovative. We will see the power of the blockchain and other protocols aligned to it seep into our daily life over the next ten years. I believe the changes will be massive and revolutionary and will help our world shift from old and outdated paradigms to new and better working conditions. I wonder how many other areas it will affect soon and what other good things we will hear coming to us from the blockchain. Electric Bikes are also becoming a popular ride now for the energy conscious so this could be a really good thing for the bikers using electric bikes to get around, that's for sure.

Very interesting and innovative idea to rent a bicycle, and cheap! 250 Satoshi = 0.01590466 USD and no hassle of maintenance! Really a great idea!

This is a cool idea and if they became popular would push people to considering the use of bitcoin. Although it's effectively not so different from bikes that already exist it's just that they can only be paid for with bitcoin and not fiat.

Meh.
I don't think anything like this makes sense when you're thinking about how easy it easy to use this now. If we're going to have to wait years for the LN to actually be bug-free and coming to fruition then it's not going to be worth the time wasted. Bikes are already here, people use their credit cards (or cash) at kiosks to get the bikes. Why do we need Bitcoin for this sort of thing?
Makes no sense to me, and this isn't going to increase adoption. We've just introduced an alternative that isn't going to get used.

I ask the opposite, why do we need to rely so heavily on 3 parts for such a simple operation? Cryptocurrencies could facilitate the use of products where humans interact only with machines. As is the case with these bikes, as is the case with snack machines. It could be the case of self service kiosks that are already widely used at McDonalds. Credit cards are not perfect. In certain situations they are insecure, they require a lot of information. And they are still not universal, since many people do not have a bank account.

Technically the bikes are still free, you are just paying the electric support component if you opt out using it. And with a base price of 250 satoshi per minute you are basically paying around .015$ per minute. which is ridiculously cheap for anyone who wants a motor assist in their journey. I think that his business idea's main goal is not for profit but for the introduction to Bitcoin in the growing demand of rental bikes in their area. But surely this kinds of business models don't last as they usually increase their rates once they get popular in the market.

It could be the case of self service kiosks that are already widely used at McDonalds. definitely. it should be just as smooth of a process as the current electric bike and scooter rentals---contactless payment with smartphone. however, presently, i think the market is quite happy with the current mobile payment options, so i just don't see much impetus to integrate bitcoin---or especially lightning---right now. as it is, establishing LN channels and having transactions properly routed isn't a foolproof process. it's definitely not ready for the masses, especially for products where humans interact only with machines.

A good news and this is able to make an interesting point in the development of technology, if indeed electric bicycle products are able to develop and provide input for a new application will certainly be a superior product.

Well this is only one of the innovation to come in the world of blockchain, we will see more of this in the coming years. because when they implement something like this more people will be curious and more of them want to try the new technology and some are want to make their own technology as well powered by the block chain technology. so we are one step away to see the future full of block chain technology.

We already have that for about as long as Bitcoin has existed in Europe without any damn blockchain! Why the hell do we need to complicate everything just to make it sound cool when we don't have a real solution for making it that easy for anyone. I'm really wondering, how many of those that are so impressed by this feature have ever made a transaction via LN? I ask the opposite, why do we need to rely so heavily on 3 parts for such a simple operation?

What if you pay and your lock doesn't open? At that moment you're going to wish you have used a credit card!!!!!

I think it is a good invention for the future. More peoples will adopting bitcoin to use them if there are real products. And that is quite cheap, 250 satoshi is a very fair price for electric bicycle. I believe it will create more awareness of bitcoin and crypto with this way.

It seems that this discovery provides a special attraction and this is interesting to be combined in blockchain technology. I think Electrik bikes can provide good developments for bitcoin and crypto, concepts that can get better.

I seriously don't know whats the purpose of this rent a bike using Crypto Currencies and this kind of act will not affect the Crypto Market industry in my opinion. Maybe the developer of the Lightning Network just wanted to promote his project with this kind of gesture. I don't know why we humans want to make easy things more complicated instead of making it easier for us but I'm not against his idea of promoting his project I just don't the sense of making promotion like this. This is a cool idea and if they became popular would push people to considering the use of bitcoin. Although it's effectively not so different from bikes that already exist it's just that they can only be paid for with bitcoin and not fiat.
It isn't that cool bro, It only make things complicated rather than making things easy for everyone. Meh.

100% agreed on what you have just said. "Thumbs up" For me, that is not the right medium of promotion of the Lightning Network project based on my own opinion and point of view and just like you I see no sense about it. Maybe the developer should think other kinds of way to promote his creation and it should be a difficult scenario that could make it easier using the Lightning Network.

Cost it about $1 per hour. This is not expensive. Good price for electric bike trip. Where can read more info about this project? Thanks.

The name, “Lightning Bike” was also a smart marketing move. Can Visa or Mastercard or PayPal offer the same service at the same price for micro transactions like this?

Yeah, something similar already exists in Taipei: https://www.taipeibiketours.com/single-post/2017/06/06/How-to-Use-Taiwans-Youbikes-in-8-StepsThere's a deposit if you pay with credit card, but they're actually a lot cheaper. The other alternative (or rather the main option), EasyCards, can be used to pay for just about any public transportation and is accepted at major convenience stores if I remember correctly. So yeah, the Lightning Network isn't really breaking any new ground here, but I'd say it's still a very interesting proof of concept. This won't excite you if you've never doubted the Lightning Network, but it should be pretty fun for skeptics.

amazingly, more and more ideas are contained and implemented through this blockchain and bitcoin technology. It is increasingly apparent that bitcoin will become a part of everyday life. It will be very easy for people who will join in this cryptocurrency, because the actual work produced can prosper the community.
