The altcoin discussion is really in a dilapidated conditions spammers and bounty hunters rush up there just to complete their bounty post. Many post there get over 200 replies and half are spam the other half are one liners in disguise. How would it be if a post there that has lasted long and had had 300 reply be moved to the archive section. A post made there probably get to the third page so quickly. Can there be a complete waste drainage allocated to that section

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Most altcoins are rubbish, but there are a few new ones that are worth discussing in my opinion. It would be nice if there was a board for these discussions.

This is not the first time that someone complained about this issue. Thing is we cannot stop these people by teaching them to make good posts and not shitposts. You could yourself report stuff that you feel is not worthy enough in a discussion or offtopic or a generic shitpost. That would help the moderators clean up these diarrhea threads quickly and you could have the mental satisfaction of being able to help the forum.

Its true that such discussion totally miss the point but that why the "Report to Moderator" button exists. Use it properly.

Yes that what the altcoin discussion section is originally meant for going by the name ALTCOIN DISCUSSION which implies that it's a place for the discussion of all coin apart from bitcoin. But right now it's spam discussion and this is very sad

Altcoin discussion as the Bitcoin discussion is just a section for the sig. spammers to gain their weakly post counts. Very few legit users post there.

If the campaigns are still relaying on the post counts and not the earned merit, the things will be like this for a very long time.

You don't need to worry about that, because the moderator works about it and banned people who are considered to be spamming and delete posts that are considered inappropriate.

Report them! Especially duplicate garbage topics like ETH vs NEO, NEO vs ETH, What is better eth or neo and so on
I was doing this for a while a few months ago and many of those got locked some even trashed, not a single report was marked as bad, I kept my 100% record clean.

I think going after topics is far more effective than reporting spam line sone by one.
Imagine the screams after a 50 pages topic get trashed and hundreds lose their post quota for the week  Grin

there are a few new ones that are worth discussing

It's a fact that most technical breakthrough are made by altcoin development teams.
Every step forward is worth discussing and implementing.

Whether the project itself will gain momentum is another thing Smiley
Most relevant projects are Open Source anyway and their code will be used again in maybe better thought projects.

What happens if the altcoin discussion section is cancelled? Tens of thousands of spamposters will go to the Bitcoin section. If you think there are too many spams in the altcoin discussion section, then ignore this section. If you really want to discuss an altcoin seriously, you can go to Serious discussion.

Yes, but this board definitely requires more stringent moderation. Altcoin discussion is squalid, the thread is completely absorbed by spammers, although in my opinion, this is a quite important board, where qualified reasoning and serious communication should be. Options for developing this situation have been repeatedly proposed in the form of restrictions on ranks (for example, members and up) that can participate in the dialogues there. I think there`s a need to introduce them into life in order to somehow improve the quality of the posts there.

If there were no "Altcoin Discussion", "Bitcoin Discussion" other discussions etc., this spambies will spam other boards, the best way is to report those shitposts to moderators. They (spambies) don't care for the forum they care about their post counts, even if they go overboard or off-topic in a thread.

I am of the sentiment that this forum being bitcointalk is primarily focused on Bitcoin.
And some members are overly critical of altcoins and ICOs. Hence most of the discussion on there do not appeal to the minute, and knowledgeable minority.
This has now left the board to the majority of spammers who use it to their own personal gain.

And at this current stage it would be very difficult to take back those sections.
Unless of course major decisions are taken.

I think we should introduce a way to punish spammers that have a high percentage of their posts deleted. Maybe a score or something, like Reddit, that will allow users to see which user is worthy and which is just a spammer. Merit alone is not enough. You could build up a great profile, gather a ton of merit, and then sell your profile or start posting spam everywhere and there is no feedback mechanism to show that a user is posting spam.

Considering the amount of spam in the Altcoin Discussion section by newbies, and the lack of reports that I receive. I'd wager that there aren't that many reports for such an active section, and mprep isn't getting much help moderating there. I receive few for the Bitcoin discussion section, but I think there's far more newbies posting in the Altcoin Discussion section.

Personally, I'd like to see both Bitcoin Discussion, and Altcoin have a deep clean, and possibly more moderators added to them. This has been discussed over, and over, but having global moderators dedicated to a section alone doesn't really help the situation. Then again, if there's no one reporting there then theymos isn't going to know who to dedicate there. So, there needs to be changes in both regards. Hence the reason more users need to be reporting in these sections, and helping out the global moderators.

And at this current stage it would be very difficult to take back those sections.
Unless of course major decisions are taken.
It would be difficult, but I think it can be done within a few days of some heavy initial moderation, and then being more strict from there on out. Most megathreads would either need to be locked or completely removed which would likely result in a lot of users being unhappy that they have lost post count, and the inevitable complaints will flood in on whoever is doing the moderation there. "x is biased" or "x is to harsh".

There are only a handful of ones worth discussing, and I'm not sure any of the "new" ones are included in that list IMO.

Agree fully with OP that Altcoin Discussion is a cockroach-infested hovel of spammers badly in need of a potent insecticide.  It's so bad that I think the moderator has given up or can't keep up with all the nonsense posts.  But we've discussed this before and it's ultimately Theymos's call on whether more mods get added--and I think Altcoin Discussion is probably low on his priority list.  If anything, more mods (and mods more aggressive in terms of deleting spam & locking/deleting threads) should be recruited for Bitcoin Discussion, because it's time for this forum to take that section back from the spammers.

Theymos is fully aware of the problems, and I'm confident he knows what the possible solutions are and probably has an estimate of how effective they'd be.  It doesn't matter how much we, who have no power here, talk about these matters.  It only matters if Theymos acts, and thus far he doesn't seem to care as much as he should about how bad the problem has gotten.

Adding the merit system was huge, as was the latest requirement of 1 merit to rank up to Jr. Member, but until some stringent rules are laid down restricting bounties and how they operate and who they can let participate, not much is going to change.

Maybe we could have like an Altcoin Ivory tower. But dammit, if it was full member only I would not yet qualify to participate. But at least I could read good discussions so that would be great.

Its takes a little bit of intellect and knowledge to post in sections like "Project Discussion" "Service Discussion", "Reputation", "Meta" which are by far the lower on spamming:quality posting ratio. These sections get low visit and get reports more often since they are not spammed too much. Because these lowlife spammers dont have a job or have any qualifications to apply for a job, they try to get into alternative methods to earning effectively making this forum their workplace. Seems like a joke its the truth.

If the altcoins sections are not taken care of by community reporting then nobody can help it.
