What causes a person to become intensely addicted to gambling?

Like the others, they are addicted to gambling because they want to get a lot of money quickly. And usually those gambling addicts have felt victory at the beginning of their gambling, and that made them forget themselves and addicted to continuing to gamble.

From this point of view every choice in life is a gambling, but I believe it's beyond of being addicted to it or not. Choices are needed in life, it's not an addiction, but a necessity. Of course we might be "gambling" when choosing where to live or work, who to marry, what car to buy, to travel or to save money... Without these "gamblings" there isn't movement in life, or there isn't even life.

However, never forget that you are on the control all the time, you are the one who decides if you are a conservative or an aggressive in the real life's gambling, depending on your choices.

Decisions on life do really have that kind of risk factor thing but it is actually inevitable and always been part of peoples life.So the thing you would do is to
choose up correctly and do take much time to consider which one would be the best option or move to make on where you wont really regret in the end.

Choosing the right spouse is not a gamble, because before you get married you get to know each other. You know already what you are going into. You are even given the last chance to back out when the priest ask if theres anyone who is against your marriage please stand up, in gambling there's none like that. You got  a point there, if you see from the other perspective its true that we are gambling every day, when we choose one decisions it can be consider as gambling, but I think there are different in making decision in life and gambling in casino, the reason why we are addicted to gambling is caused by greed, greed of making more money, while in making decision in life we are choosing option to get the best of the situation, making choice in our lives can't make us into gambler

Yes, our life is full of gambling and sometimes we got a good result and in the other time, we've got a bad result. But I am sure that if we can choose with the right, then we can get a good result too. As long as we can choose for the good thing, we will get the good result too. People make their own choice and I am sure that they will think for the result that might come to them and they are trying to choose the good thing. But sometimes, even we are gambling with our lives, if we know something with good, then I think we can predict the next things that we can get and we can also get the good result too.

I'd rather use the word RISK which is more sounds good to me.
In life, risk is everywhere and in every decision that we make there is risk. Gambling has different meaning of course especially if there is no money involve. We gamble in life to survive everyday but having that guts to take risk on any decision is the most important thing. Gambling with money is really addictive, you'd better stay away from that or be in hell for good. Losing money will always be in a gambling side, be wise, think better for you to have a meaningful life in the future.

I agree that addiction to gambling is quite a common problem and a concern for many. But I don’t agree with your views on the role of gambling in everyone’s life. The instances you have given are too senseless. I mean how you can relate such important decisions of one’s life to gambling. Choosing a life partner is a crucial decision made only once in lifetime. Gambling involves making instant decisions or trading on luck to earn money. I am sorry but I think there is no relation between gambling and the examples you’ve mentioned.

You may view at these all as gambling but actually these are choices. Going to college is not a gamble, it is a necessity for some while a choice for some. No risk to take because at the end you will still be getting something and that is learning. Choosing a husband is not gambling. You dont kidnap a man to be with you for the rest of your life. Getting married is not a one night event. Greed causes a person to be addicted to gambling.

Well, no one can escape, but you cannot be comparing what you will have to do once to what you have to be doing consistently. Even if life is a gamble, it is pretty absurd for people to be relating that with casino gambling, as they are totally different.

Choose a wise husband from a bunch of boys - at least to do that, won't you study the person you want to spend the rest of your life with first ? In gambling, there is nothing to study than you getting lucky.

Choose a school to study - That is a one-time thing, and I am sure you can easily check review of schools before even entering any of the institutions. This to me does not even sound relative at all to gambling.

No need to even go further! Sure, we cannot predict life outcomes, but we got to do what we have to do, and in most cases, you will always be able to have options, and plan to do things right, to get the best, based on the fact that whatever you need with research on the school you want to go, who you want to marry or where you want to work can be researched. Most of the people that are extremely addicted to gambling are just there for one reason:

They all are chasing huge profits.

I don't think that there is no particular cause on why people get immensely addicted to gambling, they all have their own reasons, and one of the many reasons out there is that they are trying to WIN and WIN BIG and WIN MONEY, get that profit that they are aiming for, and if they don't, they put in more money and lose and get addicted for until they realize that what they are doing is a waste of time, but not in all cases that this happen though, just a mere example on how someone can get addicted.

Although all the above listed cases can be called gambling in a way, they are far from being gambling completely. I've never heard of someone being addicted to choosing a wife/husband or choosing a school or choosing a boss etc. In fact, if people were addicted to those things the way addicted gamblers are addicted to gambling, it could be a good thing. Spending more time and energy on making those choices can result in better outcome. It is not so with gambling, which is a game existing solely for your amusement, and giving a lot of importance to it can result in bad consequences rather than good ones.

Lol at most of the comments in here...  Addiction, in any form, is actually chemical.  A part of our brain secretes a hormone called dopamine (look it up, but it's basically a feel good hormone) whenever we do drugs, gamble, eat sweets, smoke cigarrettes or depending what gets you addicted to something.

And the bad news is, you need to do more and more of that thing you want to do to get the same dose of that 'high' you get.  That's why gamblers go broke.
