Lol at most of the comments in here...  Addiction, in any form, is actually chemical.  A part of our brain secretes a hormone called dopamine (look it up, but it's basically a feel good hormone) whenever we do drugs, gamble, eat sweets, smoke cigarrettes or depending what gets you addicted to something.

And the bad news is, you need to do more and more of that thing you want to do to get the same dose of that 'high' you get.  That's why gamblers go broke.

You laugh at people's answers but you didn't thoroughly describe the subject. Dopamine is only one of many factors that make a person addicted. If it was only one hormone things would be much easier, but it's not. Some people get addicted for psychological reasons, for instance seeking escape from reality and ways to get themselves busy. Victims of abuse, abandoned children, lonely people or those who lost their loved ones, going through a divorce and so on. They're not doing it to get pleasure out of gambling. They do it to forget about the pain. It's the same reason why people get addicted to watching TV or playing computer games.

It might be true that what people are choosing is their gamble with their lives, but I don't think that in that every turn, it is gambling most of them are inevitable to happen.

When you go to school, that is inevitable since it is a common activity as a child, you must go to school. I can't think of a more good reason that make a person to become heavily addicted other than greed. Greed is the main reason because greed eats your soul from inside, you don't think of nothing else except gambling and risks his life, friendship , job and family.

One reason is curiosity. People become curious in gambling that they want to try it. They will not deposit some fiat or Bitcoin if its online. Well, greed really is the main reason that makes many people become addicted to gambling, wealth and make a lot of money in a short time, an attractive gift and no one can refuse, all have led them to addiction to gambling.
