1. Introduction.

Using @Piggy’s latest full forum member dataset released today (see Open scraped data of all the users - SQL Lite DB - 2.481.270 users), and comparing it to the one he retrieved roughly a month ago, I wanted to see what the difference in posting habits looked like per rank, during the interval of time between the two snapshots (roughly one month). I wanted to keep it simple, yet meaningful, coming up with the insights depicted in the following sections.

Note: The first DB snapshot was taken between the 03/11/2018 and the 08/11/2018. The second BD snapshot was taken between the 04/12/2018 and the 06/12/2018. There is therefore roughly a 1 month time interval per profile in the data depicted.

2. Number of posts created by Rank

The table above summarizes the number of posts (and merits) created between the two referenced DB snapshots. As we can see:

-   796.538 net posts were created by 53.858 forum members.

-   Newbies are the largest creators of content (so as to say), being responsible for 309.351 posts in the period of time analysed (38,84% of all posts created).

-   Full Members, Members and Jr. Members are roughly on par in the 12,55%-15,13% range of total posts.

-   Legendary, Hero and Sr. Members are in the range of 3,82% to 7,38% of total posts.

-   But Newbies on average post 8,4 posts in that period of time, being between 3 and for times higher for the ranks above. I may need to look at this further later on (to see Newbie distribution within their segment).

Note: I have not stripped Copper Members to their underlying ranks, since I wanted to align the results to the data as it was extracted, without altering it. The Brand New users with posts are likely exceptional cases caught in between posting and ranking to Newbies.

3. Number of posts deleted by Rank (negative post number difference).

The above table summarized the number of deleted posts by rank. There are certainly more deleted posts in the time interval analysed, that are compensated by the positive number of posts (i.e. a user creates 20 posts and deleted 3 reflects having created 17 posts). The table shows data for those profiles that have a net decrease in the number of posts.

As we can see:

-   67.248 net posts were deleted by (or in the accounts of) 22.678 forum members.

-   Newbies have 35,47% of negative net post attribution, followed by Members (17,99%), Brand New (14,91%) and Full Members (12,41%).

-   Average deletion is highest for Brand New members (7,94 posts in the measured period of time on average), likely due to nuked accounts and people deleting a bunch of their post, getting their account drawn back to Newbie rank.

Note: I'm cleaning up my account old bounties reports.

What is #nMeritDiff? Is the merit earned on last month?

I figured so.

Yes. The #nMeritDiff is the number of merits earned between snapshots, which are roughly one month apart, and taken for each user profile somewhere between the 03/11/2018 and the 08/11/2018 for the first snapshot, and between the 04/12/2018 and the 06/12/2018 for the second. Since there are 2.481.270 downloaded profiles, they are downloaded over an interval of a few days and do not have the same exact date/time of data extraction per profile.

I think it worths a try to check the Jr. members in the top 25 posters table, I'm curious what kind of content can they create with more than 1000 posts in a months time.
Also, we could check the posts of those Jr.members who have received merit for a few of their posts in this time period, if those posts were merit worthy...
Thanks for the information, it's really interesting

It's a pity we can't have a quality ranking ( and I know about the merit system, and it's subjective ranking). I'm having trouble finding interesting threads with good discussions. I suspect that some of the problem is my preoccupation with Brexit, and other global economic changes, but we ought to be able to discuss these somewhere. After all, they are going to have a major effect on Bitcoin, as Bitcoin takes its place alongside gold and silver.

I’ve just added the complete non-cero post difference list to the OP (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/179qRGqfO4H_UJu_tafs3qXhLsl4iq85YncisqhL1kbc/edit?usp=sharing) …
Checking what you say can be interesting, but a hell of a lot of trouble for whoever takes the challenge, often I figure with poor results in terms of actionable measures when something noticeably weird is found.

Note: I’ve just noticed that @Piggy’s Maggiordomo is on the top poster’s list, in eight position.

<…>
The only indicator for now is the aggregate merit per thread, accessible on one op LoyceV’s OPs (see Most merited topics (SUM of OP + posts) (UPDATED!) ) or from the BitcoinTalk Merit Dashboard – Tab "Rankings"), but that is really a compendium of n-cast subjective visions, which is still not ideal (and excludes all start-up threads).

This was really interesting -- I like seeing these types of analyses.

I'm wondering if the Legendary member count is so close to Hero because they are incentivized to post by being Legendary. Also its interesting that there are more Members than Jr Members. I guess Jr Member is sort of a short-term purgatory for those clearly set on advancing in rank, however it is never cleared by many.

 Cheesy

Yeah I would have also put quotations marks around "content"... that term is used pretty loosely. Its more like drivel at best and nonsensical spam at worst.

Humm.. a month ago or so I made the proportion of Legendary and Hero accounts to be as follows (see Analysis - Bitcointalk Accounts – Date of Register vs Last Active per Rank):

Total Legendries: 2.215, out of which 1.996 have been active (logged-in at least) during 2018 (90%).
Total Heroes:      4.071, out of which 3.169 have been active (logged-in at least) during 2018 (78%).

On the other hand, their posting ratios and absolute volumes have been very similar during the last month as you pointed out.
Combining all that data, it looks to me that there are less Heroes posting than expected really (and I’d say that the 500 Merit difference to rank-up is massive as things stand, and works psychologically as a deterrent and not an incentive for Heroes).

The fact that the number of Jr. Member posting is less than the number of Members posting is easier to depict: since most of the Jr. Members were demoted back to Newbies in September (with the 1 merit requirement), they form part of the Newbie segment really.

I notice a lot of bounties combine Hero/Legendary into the same camp. Yeah I'm not sure I will ever get 500 merits. Maybe in like 3 more years of posting near every day. The 500 merit gap definitely is a deterrent. Interesting to see such a drastically lower % of Heroes active than Legendaries, but totally understandable.

I took part in bounty Twitter and Facebook. I'm not doing it anymore. I deleted the reports in different bounty threads so as not to clutter up the forum.

You don’t really need to justify yourself at all, but I guess when one appears on a list of some sort he may wish to clarify (happened to me too recently, to a certain extent).

I don’t think that the forum suffers too much with social reports, as they are confined to bounty threads. I do think though that it interferes more with the poster’s history on a personal scale (many people browse other people’s posting history before meriting them).

Regardless, there are some decent chaps on the forum that are hybrids between regular posts and social reports, and they seem to go around rather unscarred, so they are not incompatible in my opinion (some socials and decent post->merit).

I've seen some of the profile links of the top 25 post creators here in BCT and most of the Jr. Members and Newbie ranks that are in it have post histories which have most of their post on bounty threads regarding their bounty rule compliance which I'm pretty sure why they are leading the way in terms of post creation as they are here to earn money from bounties. Also there is a possibility that a lot of the people here have multiple newbie accounts part of a bounty campaign that is why their is a big gap compared to other members.
