The fact is that after tagging the scammers continue to destructively influence on the forum. Cheaters are selling merit to newbies without fear of punishment because they are already tagged.

For example, Legendary foserfox which was tagged on the 17th of August 2018.

foserfox has sent merit to newbies a large part of whom were alt accounts.

I know it doesn't feel right but the trust system is not supposed to affect user's forum privileges. There are moderators to take of the rules, and I guess the merit system is policed by theymos himself, who has once reversed merits sent out by a hacked account. This case does not seem to qualify for that sort of intervention but anyone who cares enough can see the red trust and make their own conclusions.

Also keep in mind that this is basically a one-time thing. This user won't earn new merits and those promoted Jr accounts will have to be dealt with using forum rules, if they violate them. In the long run it's just a drop in the ocean.

Nothing is going to be happened. It will only be continued as long as they have sMerits and after a long time, they will be out of sMerits. This way, abuse of merit will be dropped significantly.
theymos can manually reverse the merit transcation of such kind of profiles but this will be a huge task for him if he do it continuously. There is only one case where theymos reversed merit transaction.
I don't think this going to be happened. In the Merit ANN thread, it says, "Merit transaction is not moderated." In only excessive case, theymos may reverse.

Being red tagged doesn't come with any restrictions, except of course on certain bounty programs, even with a red tag you could earn as well as send merits,as the red tag wasn't put in place to stop that
People even defy the purpose of the red tag and go ahead to deal with such user, but the community definitely has played it's part to warn them.

Except there is prove the accounts bought the merits, then they also could be tagged, and even if they aren't,uf they end up breaking forum rules they'll either be tagged or banned

Cheaters are selling merit to newbies without fear of punishment because they are already tagged.

That is the highest form of punishment for merit abusers, and should serve as detterent enough for anyone interested in their long term presence on the forum.
A negative feedback limits a users ability to interact on the forum.
Those interested in merit trades are of course also rules violators and risk getting tagged if proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Red tag is most time to warn prospective individuals on the necessity of trading with caution with the member that was red tagged it really shouldn't not play any part on merit issues even individuals with out a negative trust also sell or play illegal deals with merit

I know it doesn't feel right but the trust system is not supposed to affect user's forum privileges.

I don't blame them users like foserfox (I hope I am not judging him wrong). Having a negative trust can open up a lot of doors (negative way) if the use has abuse in mind. Shame that those who do not have the negatives in mind they become the victim of the current trust system.

We need two trust system :
1. Trading feedback. Loan defaulters, currency exchange, buying/selling stuffs. "Warning: Trade with extreme caution!" should show up under their usernames.
2. Forum reputations. Like if someone made a mistake like me (offering 100k escrow deal when I had very little experience) and get tagged for that. More example should be: Account traders (those who believe is not ok), manipulating auction, asking for loans from a new account without collateral, scam accused projects etc etc. This should not affect someone to trade in the forum if they never default a trade.

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

Trust doesn't moderated by forum moderator. As a result when anyone get negative tag then moderators/admin cant take action for the person who has negative tagged. As a result negative tagged person can send merit to anyone. Only person cant send merit if s/he has been banned. Negative tag does not mean that s/he has been banned so there is no way/reason to stop sending merit. Many a people still posting/contributing after being tagged and they also getting merit as well as sending merit. So,they should be punished too by not giving authority to give merit?
Keep in mind that negative tag doesn't mean ban.

I would be against this and I doubt it's something theymos would do anyway. People who have negative feedback can still provide worthwhile content and also send appropriate merit. Of course there will be certain individuals that abuse the position but I think they should be taken on a case by case basis and handled by the community. Foserfox is already permabanned anyhow, and I don't think you can send merit once you're banned (I could be wrong, but I certainly don't think they should be allowed to once banned). People only have a limited amount of merit and they will run out of it very fast, especially when banned. If a banned or negative trusted user did send merit then more often than not it's easier to spot abuse/alt accounts they're sending merit to.

They can be punished (like hilariousetc said, karma worked and he is permabanned)

But trust shouldn't be involved with the merit system.
I'm sure that you know it and if not you can do a little trip to the reputation section and watch the war involving....f*** I'm not even going to name them as I don't want to poke a bee zerg hive.

Rather than linking merit to reputation we could simply tie merit to merit and make a lot of computations when you can send merit ,if you earned x in a period, if you're activity is y , you can only send z and so on.

But is not going to happen as theymos is not a fan of restrictions.

Besides, We're destroying more merits than we're sending. Wow, suchmore  Grin and the airdrop merit is getting depleted.

Although he is tagged and abusing merit but better let him do it. At least merit will not dry. Theymos is against to tag regarding merit transfer if there is no strong evidence like merit sale or exchange. So nothing going to change about it. If user already tagged and he isn't meeit source then leave him to spread the merit. Nothing we can do with him. In fact theymos don't want to see such as small case.

A tagged member can still find posts that are worth meriting and unless they are meriting shitposts or selling their merits there shouldn't be a reason for them to not be able to merit other users. Deal with a tagged individual with caution but if you like a post it doesn't matter if it was written by a J.Member, Legendary or a tagged user, they can still be merited.

I know it doesn't feel right but the trust system is not supposed to affect user's forum privileges.
Agree.  It's unfortunate this knucklehead shotgunned all those merits to those accounts, but the merit and trust systems are separate and should be that way.  Not only that, but Theymos doesn't want merit abusers to be tagged anyway.  So even if it could be proved that all of those accounts were alts, DT members probably wouldn't do anything anyway.  In addition, I think I've seen examples of members who've given out merits like this guy did, and they weren't even red-trusted to begin with.  It sucks, but there's not much that can be done about it.

At least merit will not dry.
Not sure what you mean by that, but if you're alluding to the fact that these cases are self-limiting because of how merits decay as they're distributed, that's some consolation.  Foserfox doesn't have unlimited sMerits to give out and this isn't something that can go on forever--at least not for him.

It is time to retire all air dropped sMerits  for stopping Merit abuse.

If someone  earned merit for good quality post, I doubt that user will award that merit to shit posts/ shit posters.

I think it would be a good solution that all unused smerit should annuling in certain period, every six months for example. Then scammers will be less reason to hack or buy high ranking account for pumping other profiles.

I would be against this and I doubt it's something theymos would do anyway. People who have negative feedback can still provide worthwhile content and also send appropriate merit.
...
That's true, but unfortunately this is true for the minority of the users... majority would abuse merit after red tagged (or was tagged because of the abuse...)
So theoretically, this is fine and I have no problem with red tagged accounts sending merit, but practically most of them will end up banned sooner or later, because if someone is brave enough to abuse the merit system, he is brave enough to do some other shady things too, which is a good way toward the permaban...

I think putting the DT network in charge of who can send merit would be a step toward centralizing decision making on the forum and I believe steps in the opposite direction are more in line with the merit system’s intent.
