How long has this phrase been in the forum footer? First time I noticed her was today. Does anyone know the reason?

I think it was added today.
Yes, I purchased the domain last night from the Canadian Revenue Agency. They knew my email address and that I was into Bitcoin, but I'm sure I gave out that info on a census somewhere. They should transfer the domain over today since I just sent the coin, so I'm sure Theymos is just letting everyone know it is no longer for sale.

I already suspected that Cøbra is an acronym of the Canadian Revenue Agency.

It's hardly visible. I guess I would not notice if I missed this topic PS: The reality is if anyone wants to buy this domain then they already should know the history of the domain and if they know the history then they will come here and contact the admin. So, whoever was planning to trick people wouldn't succeed anyway.

I could not stand the lies against me anymore. I can not prove them wrong too. It's better I live in peace. So, I am willingly locking mdayonliner. Thank you BitcoinTalk. Be addictive, be a Bitcoiner.

Well merit threads are dying down, so we need another topic to replace them.

Someone managed to get bitcointalk.org listed on a prominent after market domain sales platform. Then all the domain registrars started marketing the site as for sale.
The warning was added to make it clear the site wasn't for sale, hopefully to prevent people getting scammed and also as evidence should registrars do anything strange and transfer the domain to someone else.

Is there a contingency plan in case that happens? I hope theymos has a non-aws backup of this site, it'd be horrible to watch it go and have to all start scraping as much as we can from archive sites in order to save our forum. I assume forum.bitcoin.it is available and forum owned, however, I've long thought we should have a tor version of Bitcoin talk. It's listed at £7.5k which seems pretty cheap.

This is just the domain name; the server would be unaffected. I could have an alternative up in less than an hour, probably. It would be extremely annoying in several ways, though. I hate that the DNS is so trust-heavy. It's like storing money in banks: you just have to hope that your bank/registrar isn't being manned by easily-manipulated idiots today. (I don't like the designs of any decentralized DNS solutions that I've seen so far, though: often they're "DNS + blockchain!" nonsense solutions with no real thought.)

tks I do not know if that was the case, but sometimes I get advertising for .org and .com domains. But when I go to see, it is other endings that are for sale as .IO or .XYZ.

I’m thinking more if they change their terms and conditions and just delete your account under pressure from governments or something? I get what you mean by dns being quite strange in the way it functions. Some users here have a chance that remembers the iPs domains relate to (I don’t) but it would mean people would still get directed to the site anyway, it’s be hard to find the new site though for the rest...

There are daily offsite backups, so only up to a day of content could be lost in that case.

The real risk is that someone would download all of the posts and impersonate the forum by telling everyone they have been logged out to get plaintext passwords. They might even say PMs are down to further delay suspicion. They could also impersonate reputable people to ask for money/loans/investments.
