Decentralized exchange is one of the solution of this problem, and just now Binance already create one, hopely this exchange will be better and have the same feature like centralized exchange.  And if decentralized exchange provide the same feature and more secure, so all trader will prefer to choose that one.

You need to remember the story of etherdelta which is also a decentralized exchange.

But the fact is decentralized exchange can't be working as same as centralized one since there is not much profits for the creator or decentralized exchange where in centralized they can make millions in year.

Thank you for the list. Based on OP's list, there's must be an exchange that got hacked every year. Decentralized exchange may be more secure than the centralized exchange but the volume there is lower than the centralized. For a daytrader, it much more convenient to store their crypto in exchange but on the other hand, storing crypto in exchange is not that safe.

I think it is the combination of hardware wallet and non-custodial exchange that can solve the issue up to a level.

List of top non-custodial exchanges:
  • Changelly
  • CoinSwitch
  • ShapeShift
  • EverCoin

Now a days it is equally important to keep in mind that sharing KYC documents is risky. As KYC documents are also sold after the hack.

Have you not heard of Changelly freezing coins and using KYC as an excuse not to hand them over? That doesn't sound very non custodial to me. The only difference between them and a conventional exchange is the amount of time you relinquish control.

to be honest, I never knew that Mt Gox was an exchange, because I thought it was like a Financial Institution. And more surprisingly, the record of Mt Gox in terms of hacking is truly astounding. Have those who have been in it never learned about the importance of security exchange that must be truly fulfilled? very sad for victims of hacking the exchange above.

I remembered when I was a newbie here, Mt. Gox was the first one of the big exchange on which I had been heard that has been hacked. Actually, when this things was broadcast here it is a big news here in crypto industry.  And aside from this, As far as I know Etherdelta also has been hacked more than once too, I just wondered why it didn't list here.

for binance exchange places now I think that indeed it has very advanced and very responsive developments and there is a lot of trading volume, they also routinely clean coins or tokens that don't have life, binance platform is the best exchange platform for now.

Previously Hacked Gatecoin Exchange Receives Liquidation Order Following Banking Problems

Gatecoin, a crypto exchange that was hacked in May 2016, has announced on March 13 that it has received a winding up (compulsory liquidation) order from an unspecified court.

The company wrote that Gatecoin will have to cease operation with immediate effect, noting that the exchange will assist in the liquidation process in order to distribute assets to the creditors.

500 mil $ hack in 2018? Damn. I dont know how I missed it. Thanks for sharing.

Im daytrader so i need to store my bitcoins on exchange but i withdraw profit every 0.2 btc.

2018 is really a history itself. Not because it is about to end but because of the endless mischief that happens all throughout the year.

Great profits, I wonder why you share that info  Huh What's the point LOL
Knowing how long the bear did cover the whole market?2018 is the worst ever year for crypto daytrader but a once in a million chance for long term holder because we can purchase in the almost lowest level of prices

But about the repott,i cant believe that Poloniex once become a victim of hacking, but atleast it was a learn from experience no wonder this is the biggest exchange now

Mt. Gox Whale Secures Rehabilitation Trustee Balance of $623 Million

The amount secured by the trustee was initially pegged at approximately $624 million and has decreased since the first creditors meeting under the Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings on September 26, 2018.

Now secured, the current amount will be placed in a trust, safeguarding it from bankruptcy proceedings.

I advise you to save your assets in your personal wallet, do not keep or hold them for a long time because history can prove that many exchanges have been hacked.

There has been recent speculation that coinbene has been hacked of 100 million $ but they have been denying that it was maintenance.  You might want to consider adding that to your list.

Nice information you got there. So in coincheck, NEM was hacked right? Why in the coinmarketcap, coincheck doesn't have NEM listed on their exchange? Was that because of the hacked?

That is why I prioritize security over other factors, when it comes to exchange platforms. The best one I found so far is CoinDeal. It has great security protocols: https://coindeal.com/security
