The Mt Gox robbery of 2014 was the mother of all hacks. Some BTC650,000 was stolen, on top of tens of millions of USD worth of fiat. At current exchange rates, the total net worth of the stolen items would amount to $5.25 billion. There were a few users who lost more than BTC10,000. Five years have passed and the investigation has produced no results.

Investigation? By who, how would they detect the perpetrator with this anonymous system of cryptocurrency, this is how Binance issue will go too and it will be impossible for them to even get a clue to who the fraudster is. They better put pressure on government to regulate cryptocurrency and also subject themselves to regulation, that is the only way we can start finding solution to apprehending any scammer, which will still not be that easy provided they scammed through a blockchain technology, but at least with government regulation, it is has a way of instilling fears and reducing the number of perpetrators.

There was an investigation of this I believe, however I was not able to follow completely the update. Investigation happens because users with deposits complained about the site and they want to claim their lost bitcoin and also their creditors. This case was a hot topic before and I guess the remaining assets will be sent to its creditors or to those party that are allowed to claim. some source - https://www.coindesk.com/mt-gox-creditors-warn-mass-sale-could-put-bitcoin-fork-prices-at-riskActually prevention should be done, and I agree that crypto will be regulated and the last big hack should be a call for the regulators to act.

I think there is methods of following where the money is going and how to find who got the hack which is a bit scary considering we wanted crypto to be anon but after all its not as private as we once thought it was. I know the topic is hacking so it could be good right now but when it comes to people knowing how much bitcoin you have that could potentially change your opinion.
There was a group (a security firm I think) that actually followed all that money into which address' it went to and actually found the hackers bitcoin wallet address, that is great for following up and if that bitcoin address is attached to some exchange to cash out to fiat they could actually contact at least the most famous exchanges and see if they had it and with KYC they could potentially identify the hacker. Now, that is a very long and tiring work but after all it could be definitely done to say the least. If they can manage it then it would change the shape of crypto currency forever both by less hacks but also less privacy.

We are going to close the year. I would like to share this list of pirated exchanges. After viewing the data, consider how and where you store your Bitcoins. Since 2011 have stolen millions of dollars from exchanges, account theft, security breaches, phishing, some recovered others filed for bankruptcy. The solution adopted by governments to improve security is to implement more stringent and regulatory policies. This is a list exchanges hacked 2011/2018, I hope I do not have to update this year. Now that crypto gaining again, hackers find ways to hack exchanges, exchanges should be much more secured and focus more on developing their security, now that even Binance one of the most secured exchange they targeted it.

This is really a bad scenario in the market to be honest. Like your funds could be exposed to anyone who is good at hacking. After Binance got hacked, I have lost my belief in all the exchanges and am of the view that any exchange could be hacked if this could happen to the best exchange. The security could be improved as well like if we look at the security level of Pentagon in the US, the system is completely opaque to any hack attempt.

I like that "not your key`s, not your bitcoins" part, it sums all up. Lost bitcoins are lost, you can`t get them back. There are no insurance that can print you bitcoins that you lost, bail outs in crypto would be funny thing to see. Nice list, maybe some people will think about where to leave bitcoins after seeing this topic. If you don`t protect yourself who else will? Don`t expect from any kind of service to do your job.

"UpBit Exchange Phishing Email Scam Came From North Korea, Source Claims"Hackers from North Korea were behind a phishing scam targeting users of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange UpBit, Korean-language cryptocurrency news outlet CoinDesk Korea reported on May 29.
According to findings by local cybersecurity firm East Security, the scam came in the form of an email sent to UpBit users requesting account information.
The pretence was a fake giveaway, with the emails also containing a file called “Event Winner Personal Information Collection and Usage Agreement.hwp,” which would run malicious code when opened. https://cointelegraph.com/news/upbit-exchange-phishing-email-scam-came-from-north-korea-source-claimsThis will never end, every day more phishing, scams, thefts ... and with Bitcoin increasing the price, more exposed. - Check the web address of the exchange before entering your data. - Update passwords regularly. - Do not open suspicious mail. Good luck,

all i can say is that the attack on Mt.Gor exchange might be coming from the same person. this showcase the need for people to avoid abandoning their tokens on exchange. it is not advisable or favourable. get a wallet. whatever you earn from the exchange can be earn on the wallet.

I don't know when this exchange hack race would stop! Within 5 months in 2019, almost 300 Million USD already hacked! The crypto market won't be accepted widely until this exchange hack stops! Bithumb is becoming the home of hackers. Every year, this exchange faced several hack attacks, and now I have a doubt with the team! Binance hack and 41M USD lost was totally disappointing! I wish this year, we won't see any major exchange hacks!

I don't know when this exchange hack race would stop!
When they become non custodial. That's the only thing that'll stop it in its tracks. All the same I'd be interested to what Coinbase, Kraken and Gemini are doing right when everyone else is doing it wrong. Coinbase in particularly is the juiciest target by far. As for S Korea the exchanges seem just as dim and incompetent as the people who trade on them.

No doubt it is the effort of a hacker always to target technologies especially the top trending or popular technologies. They love to achieve or extract the most precious data or information or you can say the precious currency of modern era which is the Bitcoin and other crypto currency. They will always be trying to hack or target the utmost profitable sources what we should do is to strengthen our security much more.

I was surprised by this list, I was worried that there would be no safe exchange to save crypto assets. It should be a concern that security is important and users must get a guarantee. I like binance with their guarantee after the Hack case (SAFU).
