Round-Up of Crypto Exchanges Hack So Far in 2019, How Can It Be Stopped?

Throughout the past six months, seven crypto exchanges have reportedly seen large-scale hacking attacks to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, with the most recent platform to suffer a security breach being GateHub.

GateHub 18,473 accounts affected.
As reported by Cointelegraph on June 6, the United Kingdom and Slovenia-based crypto exchange GateHub reported the loss of nearly $10 million worth of XRP.

all i can say is that the attack on Mt.Gor exchange might be coming from the same person. this showcase the need for people to avoid abandoning their tokens on exchange. it is not advisable or favourable. get a wallet. whatever you earn from the exchange can be earn on the wallet.

Well, there are reports that most of the hacks are coming from the same groups of people sponsored by the governments of North Korea and Russia, but you know, these are just Western reports. All politics lead to fake news.

I don't even really consider all hacks are legit. I still believe Mt Gox and others were exit scams. But that's just me, I hate trusting people and when you see their faces...

I'm from the West and I've never heard of such claims. Not once. Most hacks seem to get blamed on an unknown hacker. What I'm saying is stop with the us vs them propaganda.

I was surprised by this list, I was worried that there would be no safe exchange to save crypto assets.
It should be a concern that security is important and users must get a guarantee. I like binance with their guarantee after the Hack case (SAFU).

Hopefully other exchangers will do the same thing with what Binance Exchange does by insuring their exchangers so that if something goes wrong, someone can be responsible for the funds of investors and traders.

So far only binance has that service, we can be sure not to trust too much and always keep your assets in a safer wallet and that is not an exchange.

Even binance has started hacking several weeks or months ago if I am not mistaken. But indeed saving assets too large on the exchange is quite risky.
Only saving the assets in the exchange isn't recommended but if we didn't do it, we also won't get any profit, right ?

Lots of exchanges are hacked. The biggest exchanges like binance can be hacked. For exchange owners, it should be more secure by giving the best and the best antivirus. So that the assets of investors are not easily stolen.

That will not prevent hackers from doing that because these hackers keep getting smarter in doing the action. In addition to the exchange security guarding the assets of its users, we also do not always save assets on exchange accounts because they are prone to hacking.

Oh another exchange been hacked.Im not familiar with Bittrue but basing into their tweet

Basing on calculations its about $4M+ of lost funds.I do somehow expect for these exchange hacks specially
when bitcoins price or entire market is soaring high.

Exit Scam? Dublin-Based Exchange Bitsane Vanishes With Users’ Funds

Ireland-based cryptocurrency exchange Bitsane has apparently vanished, taking as many as 246,000 users’ crypto deposits with it. The news was reported by Forbes on June 27.

i am yet to access My bitrue account after the news. although i have little money inside it. i doubt if i am affected but this is the second exchange i have an account with that got hacked. cryptopia left with my penny. just little.

Well this is a pity. These exchanges should work on their security more than anything else. This is important to keep the trust of the users restored. It was a shock to see Binance getting hacked as well and that exchange being the leading exchange had been able to control the situation for the users but the rest of the exchange might not have enough funds to do that.

Norwegian crypto exchange wants to force users to sell their cryptocurrencies

The reason for this is that the exchange's platform provider Alphapoint allegedly has been subject to a hacker attack.

The Norwegian crypto exchange Bitcoins Norway announced on Monday night (CEST) that they stop all trading on their platform and that the users’ cryptocurrencies will be sold “as fast as it is practically possible”.

Polish Crypto Exchange BitMarket Shuts Down Citing Liquidity Loss

Polish cryptocurrency exchange BitMarket announced its shutdown on its official website on July 8.

When trying to access the exchange through its website, users are instead greeted with the following text message in both English and Polish:

“Dear Users, We regret to inform you that due to the loss of liquidity, since 08/07/2019, Bitmarket.pl/net was forced to cease its operations. We will inform you about further steps.”

The way I see it, it seems that the regulated exchanges are more safe than the exchanges that are not regulated, or am I wrong? Because from the list we have here, I didn’t see any regulated exchange on the list. I don’t really know for sure, but mainly what I am seeing is exchanges that are not being regulated. Binance is not fully regulated, and it was hacked recently… Coinbase is being regulated and it is very safe and well secured. Even from the way the login works, I haven’t seen any other exchanges that works that way.

Japanese Crypto Exchange Bitpoint Suffers $32 Million Hack

Japanese crypto exchange Bitpoint has suspended all services after losing $32 million in a hack involving XRP, Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies.

In an official announcement on July 12, Bitpoint revealed that it had lost around 3.5 billion yen (~$32 million) — 2.5 billion yen (~$23 million) of which belonged to customers and 1 billion (~$9.2 million) to the exchange.

We are going to close the year. I would like to share this list of pirated exchanges. After viewing the data, consider how and where you store your Bitcoins.

Since 2011 have stolen millions of dollars from exchanges, account theft, security breaches, phishing, some recovered others filed for bankruptcy. The solution adopted by governments to improve security is to implement more stringent and regulatory policies.

This is a list exchanges hacked 2011/2018, I hope I do not have to update this year.

I Never know that Coinbene has been hacked this year, because I'm one of traders in this platform. But suddenly wondered why I cannot enter into coinbene even my 2fa all of a sudden failed to enter the code always. That could be the reason why? Truthfully, hacks are becoming more rampant and more sophisticated than before. So many hackers are learning trades and exchanges seems to be the jackpot due to the large amount of transactions and funds on those platforms. Most surprising to me was the hack of Binance. Never expected it.

To safeguard your funds, never put funds on Exchange and never leave a trade on for too long. It's a safe way to have your funds untapped

In the list above, I think there is only one leading trading platform that has never been hacked: Okex. So it seems to be a reliable exchange?
