I agree with the BAKKT and the Bitcoin ETF approval. However, I doubt that both of them can be approved specially the Bitcoin ETF, eventually though we might see approval but not this year though. The market is still in a messy situation and whales continue to manipulate it. We all know that SEC's number one concern is that 'market is prone to manipulation', so that alone looks very pessimistic for an approval, of course I'm no expert but this is just my honest opinion.

I think that approval will solve the problem, the market is messy because people are speculating on that ETF and if it gets disapproved, the more the market will not work fine. I believe its timely that it will be approve this year.

Every coming of new year is always been a good indication for bitcoin because there are lots of potential good news will be circulating online and this will surely help start a good and prosperous for bitcoin currency. BAKKT and ETF approval are one of the good reasons for bitcoin since it's one of the anticipated decision will be hearing for past months that could start an ignition for bull run in coming months for the year 2019.

I think it really boils down to Bakkt and Bitcoin ETF to get the market going in 2019. However, I'm leaning towards Bakkt early to push the price to significant levels and start the bull run again. Yeah it might cause a lot of volatility as @Kakmakr  has pointed out, that's why I say it has its pros and cons. Just like what we see when CBoE and CME enter the picture the price grow exponentially short term, but long term it really didn't do any good because we have the bubble. I do hope that we learn our lessons that time and we should be smarter when 2019 arrives and specially if institutional money poured once more, IMHO.

What you say is true, even investment institutions don't care about technology and they will always make a profit. This will cause a price war between exchanges with the stock trading platform. Even in some time the trade will be short and a long straight line will appear. Manipulation of prices will tend to fall because what happens will be a price war.

The approval of Bitcoin ETF is most likely be the one that would trigger the next bull run. This was once caused the decline of bitcoin last 2018. Now, the approval is highly anticipated to bring back the interest back to bitcoin. SEC really plays an important role to bring stability.

as far as I know there is news that the bakkt will be postponed again, which is the initial plan on January 24. indeed the news provided hope for bitcoiners, but was a little disappointed by the resignation of the schedule

These news may affect the price of bitcoin to spike. Even until now we experience decrease price of bitcoin but we must expect this coming 2019 there will be another bull run. I hope those news really trigger the price of bitcoin to spike again.

The three are really reasons why bitcoin should go up or down this 2019! We are to expect fruitful year this year and any of the three triggers mentioned by the op is capable of transforming this market to another thing entirely.  I hope ETF should be approved by sec this year and institutionals investors should come into the market and fully push the price upwards.

Security token system will be a great breath of new life to crypto markets, I have ben waiting for them to get rolling out soon because at this point everyone is fearing something is fake or something is shady and all that trust issues for everything in crypto even for bitcoin.

With this securities token things people will finally start to enjoy investing with the comfort that they are not getting screwed because companies will be liable for damage if they ever try to run away and there will be big legal consequences if they try something like that. Actually all great things we are waiting for are "trust" solvers, Bakkt allowing people to buy and sell from a professional legal place instead of some shady place like coinbase, and SEC approving makes it double trustworthy. All 2019 is promising us is less scams and shady corporations for crypto space.

These things don't provide much, just new channels for investment. That's not going to trigger a new bull run. That will come when investor confidence returns, either through the passage of time or because of some big breakthrough for bitcoin.

There is a reason why the bull market happens in 2017. The first Winklevoss application proposal in first quarter was the reason in anticipation of a possible ETF application and even push the price to 4 digits. However, when it was rejected the price goes below $1K again and then Japan entered the picture in April pushing the price and the start of the massive bull run. So a catalyst is needed to propel the price to rally.

So right one we are in the correction or accumulation phase. So we needed news to wake up the investors interest and probably a BAKKT approval and going live will at least get the ball rolling again.
