What a shame..

Quote
Reports are emerging that a huge transfer of ERC 20 tokens from Cryptopia’s hot wallet was recorded on Etherscan. According to the records, about 48 million tokens worth approximately 1176596 USD were transferred to an unknown wallet.

The crypto community is reading mischief regarding this huge transfer and some are even calling it an exit scam.
https://www.cryptodigest.com/exchanges/huge-transfer-of-erc-20-from-cryptopia-raise-red-flags/

All I have heard talk of so far is just ERC-20 tolkens..

Cryptopia is hacked. All coins seem to be stolen and send to this address https://etherscan.io/address/0x9007a0421145b06a0345d55a8c0f0327f62a2224

Coins are moved now in small batches to exchanges so it's 99.9% sure this is the hackers wallet.

The exchange seems to be attacked with a massive influx of feed tokens and at the same time assets got withdrawn from cryptopia wallets.

Sorry for your losses guys. Lets hope people learn to not keep so many coins on exchanges

Being tracked to exchanges..

Hopefully this is all they were able to get and they might be able to recover some of them from the exchange accounts they are being sent to.
Hopefully the rest of the customers funds are safe.

I have had an account their for years but thankfully I haven't been keeping coin in exchanges in quite a while..

Quote
It’s worth noting that the first official tweet on the exchange’s official Twitter profile regarding the maintenance is from January 13th, saying:
"We are currently experiencing unscheduled maintenance, we are working to resume services as soon as possible. We will keep you updated."

"it’s somewhat “interesting” that the attack took place during a bear market where small exchanges struggle to stay afloat, hinting that the possibility of an inside job cannot be rule out."

Crypto news outlets are jumping all over the story.. Search "cryptopia hacked" for many articles..

Another one bites the dust. Though I think ERC20 tokens are a cancer to crypto anyway.

Still, that's a lot of money. Too much money in a hot wallet. And you can never be sure it wasn't an inside job.

Not your keys, not your coins!

I don't know how many people are using this place, but I've heard of such things in this exchange before.

Still there is no news from the cryptopia about what they lost, this information just given by someone anonymous. But the hack will be huge since no hacker will do any left out.But I had suspicion that they prepared for exit scam before a while.

I thought of moving a bit ETH there some time ago, luckily I did not, it's very concerning to hear from this hack. I hope it is not that bad as it sounds right now because cryptopias news about the hack are very alarming. Hackers always try to cause a big damage on their profit, I hope the'll be caught.

I had a lot of ERC20 tokens there, I hope that they are still there, or are there any information whether this exchange will start? I hope it was not an internal job and in the end everything will be back to normal?

you should have stored your erc20 tokens to your wallet and not in the exchange. there's always possibility of encountering that situation even if the exchange is already tight secured and established. and the problem is, we don't know when will cryptopia be in operations again. and if you can recover your coins???

It is true, it is not good practice to keep tokens on a currency exchange office, but I planned to replace them soon and I happened to meet such a case.

this is terrible. this is proof that the exchange is increasingly insecure. this incident keeps repeating and I think it's quite dangerous. there must be a new policy for each exchange, at least providing a guarantee of security to the user. Angry

What hackers? Do you believe that? The thieves are working on Cryptopia. Last year I lost coins on Cryptopia. I've replaced Zero coins for Bitcoins and my Bitcoins have never appeared on the account ever. The thieves did not want return my the coins.

And you can never be sure it wasn't an inside job.

That's what I also wonder. As of the moment, there we're no official updates regarding the hack incident but it really is suspicious because that happened before the constantinople fork, they could multiply their money by receiving the forked coin I guess.

Good point, maybe the hackers planned to take this into consideration, cryptopia also supported Constantinople Hardfork. But normally, it's usual that lots of investors transfer coins to own wallets instead of storing them in exchanges during Hardforks.
Profits from split coins were profitable once, when B-Cash forked from Bitcoin. I'm not sure if it will become profitable a second time.

So many things have happened since I got back from my crypto break. Price went back to normal after getting a new low. Ethereum hard forks. Even Bitcoin Cash hard forks and then now cryptopia hacked. This isn't the first time it's happened right? And the rumor this time is that it's actually an insider job. When are we going to get tired of centralized exchanges and move to DEX?

Bad news. I wonder whether is this the drama that was erected by them? And are they willing to compensate users?

I would be suprised if all would end up well for the users...

No news from Cryptopia so far about compensations, just police report

Also the main site is down and no notice when they will open it.
