A lot of banned profiles are continue promoting companies in the avatars, so many irrelevant ads have accumulated on the forum. Therefore avatars of banned members perhaps should be removed, along with the signatures (credits to suchmoon). Edit: I suggest to replace avatars of blocked accounts with the default image.

This would be equivalent to having a ban label, which theymos is not willing to do, not yet anyway. So perhaps he should just remove the avatar like he does with signatures.

I don't think they are advertising, I think they are just not bothering to change their avatar. Even change avatar I don't believe someone will pay them for it since they are unable to make new post. I believe no one using banned account on the forum for reading post, we can see active them sometime because they login for see their bounty report or something else. I think most of banned user creating new account and we can see sometimes ban evasion topic. So it's not a big deal. It will better remove their avatar after got ban, may be sometime their avatar will annoy other users.

I liked the old idea of replacing the coins in the profile with red crosses. Removing avatars would be a good idea as well.

Banned accounts with avatar and signature play a good work for long term campaigns, such member won't be paid anymore, but the promotion is still going Right? I'm also for doing something to cut such things. Should be done something to everyone knew that this member is banned temporary or permanent.

Does anyone know what happens after the account is banned? I think it will not be possible to change that avatar, so no one will pay you for a service you do for free. I suggest to replace avatars of blocked accounts with the default image. For example:
From profile: You can change your personal information on this page. This information will be displayed throughout Bitcoin Forum. If you aren't comfortable with sharing some information, simply skip it - nothing here is required. I do not think this forum will change your personal information. "No one will be happy about that."

If I'm not mistaken, I had a similar proposal earlier this month, nevertheless, I fully support the idea of removing avatars from already banned users. I wouldn't replace them with a generic image of bitcointalk.org though, which of course will indicate accounts are banned, and theymos obviously isn't a fan of that idea. I do not think this forum will change your personal information. "No one will be happy about that." Welp, their sig space is also considered personal information, but it disappears with a ban, it only make sense to strip avatars too, since many of these have links to already exit scammed ICOs.

Yes, you're right. Maybe I have seen your post before, I don't know exactly. [...] I also have a suggestion in regards to permabanned accounts. When they receive their ban, their signature is automatically removed, but their avatar remains. Wouldn't it make sense to also be removed? More often than not these profiles have an image of a scam ICO, I don't know...it feels kinda wrong. A free post-mortem advertisement. Just take it away along with their sig space.

I understand that currently the stance is to avoid marking banned accounts explicitly, but removing the avatar, especially if it is promotional, seems a decent thing to do. Since obviously nobody is going to decide on a per case basis, removing then seems a pretty orthodox approach in my opinion (better an avatar removal that a dummy avatar). I figure that the idea of not wanting to mark accounts visually as banned may have something to do with the projected image that that may leave when visualizing threads where the banned accounts have posted (picture for example seeing some Ann threads with say 20% of the accounts with a banned status).

I'm also for doing something to cut such things. Should be done something to everyone knew that this member is banned temporary or permanent. Well, with most cases it would be beneficial for the campaigns; but what if the site/service being advertised is non-legitimate? It may be quite unlikely, but the possibility is still there. And yes, though they wouldn't be able to post when they're banned, their posts and their avatar/signature could potentially still be seen by a lot of people especially if the banned user posted on a hot/active topic.

I second that , or maybe they should be put up for ads auction ? just some extra income for the forum for a rainy day I do not think any company would be thrilled to have their ads on the profile of a forum member who broke the rules and got banned. That could be negative publicity. Removing the avatar would suffice to prevent any damage that could arise. Although the forum does not moderate scams.

Good point. It definitely doesnt give a good impression towards the brand itself. Anyway banned accounts dont need to be cared about since there's like a bajillion of mostly low levels. What advertisers mainly care are from active posters.

I think that the avatar of a banned user should be clearly visible and give information that the user has violated forum rules. I think that such an avatar is very good for this. Avatar: Source: https://riskremoval.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/banned-1726366_1920-e1510011206304.jpg

Admins are against this, but they might at least to remove avatars of banned members because many of them contain dated ads. <...> It seems like theymos is likely even against showing which users are banned publicly (not sure why, especially when people are reporting dozens of users a day that are already permabanned and it's time-wasting for both users and staff to have to report and handle these).

Agreed. Avatar is needed and essential to help others know that which accounts got banned. No, leave the avatar: an avatar without signature is an easy indicator that the account is banned.
Nevertheless, I think that the specific avatar designed by the forum is better than keeping the avatar each user used before got banned. Like this one: Because, without specific indicative avatar like this, it will be a trick for new users. They don't have enough knowledge about the forum to know that those accounts got banned or not.
