If you are looking to detect scams, you should know that most often, scammers have just opened a website with a free template a few days ago.
For a quick verification, this website will provide you with a lot of information (seniority, "degree of trust", that kind of thing...)

Its good tool alongside an add-on(website) known as Netcraft and Virustotal. When, you have those three bursting recently created half-baked scammy websites seems easy until a scammer decides to use much harder tactics like using an older website. You won't see a thing until you dig deeper.

Lemme give you an example.
Recently Bitbook.ag was caught pants down Here
They are a fake online gambling platform and were looking forward to running a fake ICO too in order to scam people
What gave the away was a fake photo of the CEO(in other words fake CEO).

I was surprised because if you look at the website and the domain details using scamadviser, you won't get that much red flags since the site is 1 Years and 171 Day old especially for an ordinary person doing a search about it

My piece of advice is scammers are trying to be smart, we must beat them at it, be smarter. Use every resource available before you put in your money into these new websites.
One of the resource we have here is the scam accusations board but some people don't bother to check.

If you feel you are not technically gifted enough to check out a website, you can ask the community about it or just stay away from the site especially if you have never had about it or never seen any reviews about it.

This is true scammers regularly upgrade on their modus operandi and evolve to prevent old security measures from detecting their shady activities.
We also have to keep up to date and evolve our security precautions and measures.
Always be skeptical. View every suggestion or proposal as a scam until proven otherwise.

True, that is why scam accusations board is usually the best place to check first, there is a lot of people who have much better knowledge and connections then us average Joe's.

Thanks for reminding this website, I remember using it in my early days in crypto. But you shouldn't trust this website blindly. When you make research about website, it's not enough to judge from information available there. You need to use multiple resources, search for user reviews, Bitcointalk is also good place to find information about some projects. I also noticed that somethimes Scamadviser gives very low ratings for websites which are in market for long years and are really trusted. And there is one problem on Scamadviser and similar websites - you hardly can find reviews about projects which were launched recently, so you have to use it or not at your own risk.

Finally it went through a major redesign. Back then I was curious on how those site trusts were rated.

Tools like scamadviser can only do so much in terms of helping you determine if a service or a website in general is a scam or not. The websites that will be listed in sites like scamadviser with a sort of "warning" indication will mostly only be websites that has been known to be scams for a while already. New scam websites though? The chances of them being listed in sites like scamadviser are very low. It's always easier to simply make your own judgement.

Best fraud detector ? - ICOBENCH

And I'm not joking. I spent a lot of time on research. I translated almost 100 projects.

The more expert assessments (false), the better the ratings (paradoxically), the more certain the fraud is.

Don't be fooled by these fake KYCs which are probably made with documents that have been fraudulently obtained from users, e.g. from bounty hunters..

example:
SCAMS:

https://icobench.com/ico/intro 4,5 / 33  expert ratings / KYC -YES
https://icobench.com/ico/humancoin  4.5 / 61 expert ratings / KYC -YES
https://icobench.com/ico/trustlogics 3.8 17 expert ratings / KYC -YES
https://icobench.com/ico/datareum 4.4 13 expert ratings / KYC -YES
https://icobench.com/ico/enlte  4.5 / 23 expert ratings  / KYC -YES (I am not convinced, but it seems to me that there have been at least twice as many expert assessments alone)
https://icobench.com/ico/sidera-blockchain-technologies  3.0 / 9 expert ratings (the grades were very high, all fell and were changed as soon as the fraud was official)

https://icobench.com/ico/datablockchain ( 4.7 / 55 expert ratings ) KYC -YES / Unofficial fraud but everything points to it (no translator received payment, kyc announced after a year and to this "mysterious" shares).
https://icobench.com/ico/loyakk  ( 4.5 /10 expert ratings) / KYC -YES Unofficial fraud but everything points to it (no translator received payment, kyc announced after a year , The administrator lies all the time, all the time removes the group members on the telegram. He deleted his account a few days ago. The company deals with business support, collected 16 million and smoothed out (kyc) documents through the google form.

And there is much more of it, but I have no time and no strength to write about it anymore. I lost billions of hours of hard work. I am frustrated

//
The most frequently repeated "false experts" from icobench?
This is not just my opinion!

And what's interesting.
Usually they have always been the first and always rated 5/5/5
Always with commentary in style " great band / great idea / blablablable "

"DEAR INVESTORS" : No one has recovered funds today !

Many review sites are paid to perform ICO reviews with benevolent eyes, and fraud detection does not seem to be their strong, until it is publicly known on the market, at which moment they adjust their ratings. Not saying that it is easy to do, but that is one important side that normally lacks proactive reiterative checks on the reviewer’s behalf.

I think it is easy for them always to change their profile so they will look real in the investor's eye and they can pay some money to the ICO benchmark or something like that. No offense but this services has existed for a long time ago, and until now, they still offer their services.
Scamadviser could a helpful tool to know if the website is a scammer or not but it does not always work especially if the owner of the sites can give a real (but it's fake) proves to the visitor.
The best thing you can do is only use the money you can afford and don't tempted to get big money shortly because there is no instant money on the internet or real life.

I always using scamadviser to check untrusted website. But scamadviser is not 100% sure. While i checking any website in Scamadviser, that's showing any Trusted Rating,Website age and country, and review by other users. I think better to add antivirus. Because antivirus in my device always block anybuntrusted website before i find it

This websites are always a step ahead and I don't think this service is Close to a 100% in terms of being updated
There are scam websites, well known ones, probably the site would be able to identify them for you, but novel cases would evade this checker, except maybe until it's a proven scam and will known.
But it would be nice if newbies make use of it, it'll educate them on possible scam websites to stay away from

To be honest this site could be use only to search details about website. But don't depend its judgement of %. It will show 50% safe all ICO if there is good traffic and SEO and so on. Really they can't read mind of scammers. Scam advisor show safe % can't be accurate. So my suggestion is don't use it for scam detect. For example I just search now about Ethconnect, it is showing 54% safe but Ethconnect is a big existing scam. So don't trust on rating.

As many already mentioned, it would be great if only 1 website could be enough to check is something is scam, there would be far less scammed people. Google, open 20 tabs, different sources, use forum, ask around, basicaly spread your tentacles around and you will lower your chances to get scammed.

Not conclusive enough in scam detection but one does further research, it can be a very tool. One needs to do other background checks such as team, community, white paper etc

Well, yes, checking all the above mentioned monitor/review sites could help. But remember, you can't predict what will come next. Sometimes well reviewed projects turn out to be exit scams.
So invest at your own risk.

I've found that Google is the best tool for scam detection. You should be able to find at least some discussion on any legitimate project or service. You also get to read about people's unique experiences, which may also help you decide if you want to dip your toes in. Scams will have little to no discussion, and might even have people directly calling it out. You know how people do extensive research on some new phone or car before buying them? That's exactly the kind of thing investors need to do on their potential investments.

Websites that rate others' trustworthiness often use rigid metrics that can be gamed or manipulated. They could be useful for finding certain information, but should never be the be all and end all for deciding trustworthiness.

I've been using that website during my ptc days but I don't use them anymore. Because when I tried to search for a legit company, it basically said that it was scam. I forgot that exact company that I search but sometimes they will just label a random small company as a scam.

Don't depend mostly with scamadviser it's better to do this
I've found that Google is the best tool for scam detection.

It will take few minutes but it's for you and everyone's sake.

You can usually find a boatload of information on any sort of crypto-related project on this very forum if you're trying to decide if something's legit or not, but the search function built in to this forum is pretty crappy and Google can help you find results much quicker than on this site itself.

You can do this by including site:bitcointalk.org onto your Google search along with what you're trying to find. This'll make Google give you results that only direct to this site. You can also put quotation marks ("example") around one or more specific words you're trying to find in a search result for a more precise search.

I've found that Google is the best tool for scam detection.

The problem is, users might be swayed by the ads instead of the discussion. Due to short attention spans, users mainly focus on whatever that appears first and those ads might even rank top.

There have been cases such sites (e.g. Bittrex) were placed above the legit ones on the search results pages, and many fell for them.
