Trezor Review and Ledger Nano S Review, here are few key takeaways:

Trezor is better in terms of wallet software as it enables the transaction information to be synced with a DropBox account. Plus, you can create an endless number of hidden accounts by password protecting a user’s seed. Don’t worry; it does offer an easily accessible password directory. On the other hand, Ledger’s firmware and integrated wallet software are not that advanced. It does not support shrouded accounts and does not include password administrator functionality. However, the Ledger currently supports more currencies so you should check the list above to make sure your desired coin is covered. And, in case, your wallet has been lost or got corrupt, it can be recovered without connecting the Ledger device to a PC.

Hence, both devices have their own pros and cons. It is really difficult to nominate ‘which is the better device’ – either Trezor or Ledger Nano S. Both are worth their money. So, while making a purchasing decision, you can consider the coins supported by the device, the look, and design of the wallet and the software user interface.

Nice review. Do you own either of the two devices and tested both to come up with this review.
Here are other threads related to Ledger nano S and Trezor

Yes, I do own Trezor. I prefer hardware wallets more than other(Mobile or web) wallets. Was just exploring more on hardware wallets.

I should have quoted on the other threads(you shared) instead on a new thread.

It's fine, just wan't to inform others that there are other threads similar to this if they want to read feedback of others about this hardware wallets. I am contemplating on buying Trezor or Ledger Nano S but your personal review makes side more on Trezor. I was considering to buy Ledger Nano S. But after reading this, this made me think Trezor fits my needs. I am not saying that Trezor is best, I just think that it fits my requirements.

Ledger absolutely supports those things. I know because I am currently using them.

With Ledger, you can set up not only one passphrase, but as many passphrases as you want, to hide as many different wallets as you want. Each of those accounts will be completely hidden unless you know the passphrase, allowing for plausible deniability. There are set up instructions here: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214529

Ledger nano also support "hidden wallet " feature. You can set a second pin which will have a different seed.

So in case someone is physically forcing you to send your coins to him, you can unlock your second wallet and give you just a small part of your holdings.

https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214529-Advanced-passphrase-security
Quote

Plausible deniability

To protect yourself in case of physical threat, make sure your primary PIN code unlocks only a minor part of your crypto assets. Then set up a passphrase attached to a PIN code and store more significant amount of crypto assets on the passphrase-protected accounts.

If you are under duress to unlock your Ledger Nano S, you can surrender your main PIN code to the attacker while hiding the PIN code that unlocks your passphrase-protected accounts.

Ledger Nano S Vs Trezor Review 2019 | Best Hardware Wallet Battle

Ledger Nano S Vs Trezor
Now let’s compare both – Trezor and Ledger Nano S – that have been voted best hardware wallets for 2019.

1. The appearance of the Systems
Trezor devices are made of plastic, and the Ledger Nano S is made of stainless steel which offers maximum damage resistance. The Ledger looks way more stylish than the Trezor as it’s less bulky.

Both the devices come with two buttons to manage crypto wallet software and are integrated with miniaturized USB ports. The size (length) and screen of Trezor is larger than the Ledger’s screen.

2. Box Content
The Trezor comes in a little square box with a security seal. The container contains the gadget encased in dark foam with a strap for hanging it up. Additionally incorporates a USB cable for association with your PC, a user manual card, two recuperation seed cards, and various Trezor marked stickers. While in the Ledger box, you will get a USB Cable for easily connecting it to your computer, a Key Chain, a Lanyard to keep the device on your person along with instructions and a recovery card for your seed words.

3. Device Usage
Trezor is compatible with desktops and mobile devices that are installed with MacOS, Windows, and Linux. It is also compatible with all Android devices, and Google Chrome extensions available for Trezor that helps users to manage the gadget and the data placed in it. It has ‘well-designed’ user-friendly interface that enables you to view transactions with send and receive tabs at the top. Moreover, on the top left, it has a drop-down to switch between cryptocurrencies.

On the other hand, the Ledger Nano S is compatible with all devices integrated with MacOS, Linux, Windows, and Chrome OS. Basically, it requires chromium and extension downloads to function properly. It has an easy-to-use with all the information and tools clearly labeled. Moreover, one can store cryptocurrencies in one place and access them from one screen.

4. Cryptocurrency Support
Cryptocurrency support is the most important factor in deciding which hardware wallet to use. Trezor can be utilized to hold a wide assortment of digital coins. However, it does not provide full support for certain cryptocurrencies due to hardware constraints. Following cryptocurrencies are supported by Trezon:

Bitcoin (BTC)
Litecoin (LTC)
DASH
Zcash
Bitcoin Cash / Bcash (BCH)
Bitcoin Gold (BTG)
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum Classic (ETC)
ERC-20 Tokens
Expanse (EXP)
UBIQ (UBQ)
NEM (XEM)
Namecoin
Dogecoin
On the contrary, Ledger offers full support for Bitcoins, Ethereum and other currencies, thanks to its Google Chrome extensions. The device fulfills the standard requirements of cryptocurrency users by supporting the following cryptocurrencies:

Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
Bitcoin Gold (BTG)
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum Tokens (ERC-20)
Ethereum Classic (ETC)
Litecoin (LTC)
Dogecoin (DOGE)
Zcash (ZEC)
Ripple (XRP)
Dash (DASH)
Stratis (STRAT)
Komodo (KMD)
Ark (ARK)
Expanse (EXP)
Ubiq (UBQ)
Vertcoin (VTC)
Viacoin (VIA)
Neo (NEO)
Stealthcoin (XST)
Stellar (XLM)
Hcash (HSR)
Digibyte (DGB)
Qtum (QTUM)
PivX (PIVX)
PosW (POSW)
5. Setup
The setup process for Trezor and Ledger is quite similar. Both the devices require you to set up a pin code as an added security measure. Pin code reinforcement stops hackers and scammers from stealing information from your device, that is, if someone makes more than three incorrect attempts, the device automatically deletes all the data stored on it. In such a case, you can use recovery seeds for lost data. Moreover, the user’s seed is never displayed on a computer screen for an extra level of security.

6. Pricing
The cost of a Ledger device is around USD 60, while the cost of a Trezor device is approx USD 100.

I've got both.

Personal preference won't count for much if one of them doesn't support the coin you need, but I much prefer the Trezor.

It feels friendlier to use and I prefer the openness of the developers to problems and upgrades. Ledger are snooty fuckers.

Maybe one, but for some users important advantage is that Trezor is officially supported Windows 7, and Ledger is not. The fact is that many users still use Windows 7, it will have support from Microsoft until the beginning of the next year.

I recently updated Nano S to latest firmware 1.5.5, and after that Ledger Live is not working on my Windows 7. It start, but after 1-2 minutes it just crush. I try with older versions of Ledger Live, but situation is same. Before I update to 1.5.5 there is no problem, so there is something in latest 1.5.5 firmware what causes Ledger Live to not work properly.

This is the reason why I am thinking of getting Trezor there are blogs that I read stating that the number of Coins they are supporting is almost the same. The only difference is the type of Coin.

Now that you mentioned it, I am currently using Windows 10 on my laptop and Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop, any idea if it will work with Windows 10 without encountering any problem? I am still torn between Ledger and Trezor.

If you ask about Ledger Nano S, there is no problem with Windows 10, this OS is officially supported by Ledger :

Quote
64-bits desktop computer (Windows 8+, macOS 10.8+, Linux), excluding ARM Processors. Requires one USB port to connect your Ledger Nano S.

I use it on my Windows 7 until recently without problems, but after update to 1.5.5 firmware, Ledger Live (all versions) are not working. On the other hand Trezor is supporting Windows 7 :

Quote
Trezor device is compatible both with computer and smartphone. The supported operating systems are Windows 7 and higher, macOS 10.11 and higher, Linux and Android OS.

If you have in plan to use Ledger or Trezor on Windows 10, they will work fine, you do not have to worry about it. It is up to you to decide what HW to buy, but as Ledger user I can only say that I am not too happy with them, and I seriously consider to buy Trezor.

Bear in mind there are other ways to use a Ledger Nano on Windows 7. You don't have to use Ledger Live, which as Lucius pointed out, is largely broken on Windows 7 following the most recent updates. Using a Ledger device to unlock an Electrum wallet is also a particularly popular setup.

~snip!
There are other ways to use Nano S, and I use Electrum for bitcoin because I got used to that user interface from time I use Electrum as desktop wallet. I never try to use other forked Electrum versions for Dash, Litecoin or Electron Cash for BCH, but I guess they have support for this HW. It is much better to have most of supported coins in one UI, or at least the most important ones. Time for Windows 7 slowly passing, but many still use this OS, so it is perhaps a bad decision from Ledger to stop support for this OS.

Thanks for sharing your feedback on Ledger. This is very helpful since feedback is coming from a Ledger user himself. Appreciate it.

You're welcome, but consider that I am not user of Trezor, only at this point seems to be a better option in my opinion. Ledger has become a bit messy lately, but some may say this is nothing new for them. Maybe I'm wrong, but there is a lot more problems associated with Ledger then Trezor, only if you look at the information in this forum.

You can buy Ledger too if you want while the price is getting a big discount because they release new hardware.

I prefer to use Ledger than Trezor because I don't know more about Trezor and I have one Ledger S Nano to save my coins in that wallet.

But I heard about the news that says people who have Ledger needs to update the software because it's risky and has a hole, but I don't update it yet. Maybe later I will download the software first.

I wouldn't trust Ledger after what they had done to Ledger Blue. Trezor is constantly updating their first model and it's even going to get a completely new software, ported from Trezor T which means that some of its coins will also become available on the older model.

But I heard about the news that says people who have Ledger needs to update the software because it's risky and has a hole, but I don't update it yet. Maybe later I will download the software first.

The same applies to Trezor. Security holes are constantly being found in hardware devices. Most of them require the attacker to have a physical access to the device. Yesterday, Trezor released a security update.

Can you go into more details what exactly you don't like about the Ledger?
I have been using one also for some time and honestly haven't had any issues yet. Hopefully it will stay that way.

It may be best to start from the beginning when I buy Nano S, it was a new toy and like many others I explore all options in Ledger Bitcoin App / Manager. We all like some unique coin addresses, and I find option for sign message in Bitcon App with many addresses, pick one and use it for receive payment. What I did know at that time is that this address is change address, and that Ledger will not check that address - so my transaction history never show that transaction, nor did the balance increase for the amount received. I sort it out with help of user HCP and Electrum. Then for the first time I see how bad is Ledger support, they had no idea how to solve this problem and they are probably in same situation today.

Then firmware updates are come, and this was a one big mess, especially for those on Windows 7 (Ledger still support it at that time). It take hours to update, and I do not need to mention that I was thinking Nano S is bricked. Ledger also in some way disappointed many users with latest firmware ( less apps in same time), but they also make something (at least in my case), with this firmware which is crushing Ledger Live on Windows 7. Do you know what Ledger support say to me? To try with Windows 10, as if I did not even know it myself...

It is possible that Trezor also has similar problems, but I did not notice that it was so pronounced, at least on this forum. I have an impression that I would have better experience if I buy Trezor instead Ledger, but that's just my personal opinion.

The primary objective of any hardware wallet is to protect private keys, and for now there is no problem with that. However, a user experience is also important, and my with Ledger is not so good.
