This is something that has been niggling at me for a long time. I can’t find a historic thread and I’ve mentioned it in another thread but off topic - so I thought I’d start a thread. Hopefully I’m not going over old ground.
Bitcoin.com was registered on 4th January 2008( currently registered with Roger Ver since April 2014) and bitcoin.org was registered on 18th August 2008. This throws up many questions for me.
Why the disparity in time? Why not registered at the same time?
We know Satoshi had been working on the protocol for 18mths before he revealed the whitepaper, so he(?) surely would have registered both at the same time?
Were 2 projects working in tandem or even randomly separate or were there any developmental differences/infighting within a team?
Please this is NOT a Satoshi hunt, but a constant itch I can’t scratch !
Sorry a lot of questions and ramblings.

I really think that this forum site is more than enough for me, In learning and reading news and piece of information that I need, Even though there is an available wallet on that thread but I would never know that there is a first forum site other than Bitcointalk and thanks to you I think I will try its wallet application, And if you really want forums that involve information about cryptocurrency stuff and want to try its other application then go to this link, https://forum.stake.com/ You can sure try other applications involving the Stakes Forum site and mostly on gambling discussion. Eh ? The thread is about the registration of the domain back in 2008 . |

I think whomever registered the original .com domain realized that Bitcoin most probably fitted better in a noncommercial/Open-source category and he/she registered the .org domain for that goal. The .com domain is generally more suited for commercial purposes. Bitcoin is Open-source, so it just makes sense that the domain being used must also be linked to a domain type that are geared towards Open-source projects. This is also why Bitcointalk.org is not .com.  |

Okay, so I thought that there's something relevant to Roger Ver like he will also claim that he's Nakamoto as bitcoin.com was registered on his. Good thing there's none, lol!!!
But seriously, as we go deeper with bitcoin, we will realize how great the idea is. From the whole blockchain, mempool, UTXs to nonces to BIP and to other more conflict information. For an average person, bitcoin will just be an investment but behind all of these things there's something more tangled information from what we thought.

I think it's also the same official domain, maybe before that domain was owned by someone else and he sold it to Roger Ven with a high offer.

Bitcoin.com was probably originally bought buy someone who just buys domains and made a lot of money. Bitcoin probably was bought buy someone buying retro gaming style domains.
Roger Ver has said in an interview that he paid a ****ton of money for the domain back in the day, so yes, that definitely did happen. Those .com domains should be snatched asap. The money making opportunities are huge. |

Too late now, however... technically speaking (ignoring the drama) there is no difference between the two. both of them are centralized websites that are owned and controlled by certain people. it just happens that the philosophy of the owners of bitcoin.org's and its contents are much closer to bitcoin and its decentralization compared to bitcoin.com's specially since they are advertising something that was created without consensus (BCH) as bitcoin! and maybe that is a good thing! maybe it can help some people realize that they need to trust the decentralized protocol instead of trusting in what some website tells them... |

Lol this is never going to happen (for this reason anyway) because Satoshi has already publicly acknowledged the issue: It's unrelated. There wasn't anything there when I started.
The price of .com registrations is lower than it should be, therefore any good name you might think of is always already taken by some domain name speculator. Fortunately, it's standard for open source projects to be .org.
And there's also the confirmed reason behind .org. |

I believe the two site are for different purposes because the bitcoin.com was register as a commercial purpose and that can be seen with the investment feature of bitcoin as an industry and the bitcoin. Org as an organization which plays the role of a currency to the whole world. And I both site where registered at different time cause of the differential role bitcoin plays. |
