Well, I'm trying to reset my SMS authentication as it was failed to receive the authentication code by sms for several times.
But it is a hassle because Binance asks a lot of questions related to the past.

I had difficulty to answer because I haven't logged in my Binance account for a long time.
Not sure though if I had logged in last 1 year, the thing I can say is that I don't remember most of the questions asked by Binance.

However, I tried to answer all the questions as best as I could and provided all the necessary docs.

Why I'm posting this,
It is because of those users who are using SMS Authentication. This system sometimes doesn't work and you guys may face some difficulty to gain access to your account.
So it is better to use Google Authentication Verification to avoid any kind of hassle.

Some questions asked by Binance. These questions may vary from users to users, not sure though.

Quote
1. Deposit records in your Binance account including tokens, amount and deposit date. (search '[Binance] Deposit Success Alerts')
2. Trade records in your Binance account including tokens and amount
3. Account registration date (Search for the first email you received at the point of registration)
4. Account registration country and city (Search for the first email you received at the point of registration and locate by the registered IP)
5. SMS 2FA enabling date
6. One of the tokens' balances in your account
7. One of your Binance deposit addresses
8. Commonly used IP

Extra pain from Binance

1. Both sides of your ID card or driver license, or If you would like to provide with your passport, please attach the information page only.

2. Selfie with ID card, driver license or passport information page and a handwritten note which should be written with the content of "Binance Reset SMS for xxx@xxx.com" and the current date.
( Your face, the note and your valid ID certificate should be clearly shown and visible)

3. A video in which you need to appear in it and hold the handwritten note and ID card, driver license passport, and repeat this exact phrase clearly: "today is date/month/year, reset SMS 2FA for my Binance account xxx@xxx.com".

I always keep my email inbox clean and I have deleted those emails asked by Binance, such as welcome email for account registration where I could find the registration date.

The most irritating part is in red.  Undecided  Huh  Sad  Angry

Agreed to this and...
If users ever prefer SMS Authentication over Google's, not receiving the code is the least of their problem.

[lol] A video?
Maybe they are just trying to confirm your KYC data from your previous verification, or haven't you verified your account before?
The local exchange where I trade also requests the same KYC requirement (Myself holding an ID and some details) but only as an image.

Don't you think that if this isn't a "hassle", anyone can recover your account with a little effort?

No, I haven't heard about the Sim-Swap...

Afair, I haven't done any KYC before.
Everything was fine until they added the irritating video verification thing.
It took me over 30 mins to record a 10 sec video - "ACTION ---- 1 sec later ---- CUT".
Because I and my brother couldn't stop our laughing during the recording. See the reference below.

Heard about Sim-Swap?
I thought it would be the focus of the article.
SMS verification was safe earlier but I do not think it represents any protection for your account at the moment. Just more and more complexity and lots of docs if there is a problem with the system.
Also, you must remember Not your keys, Not your coin. You will not be safe unless you "& only you" can access your private key and that key in a safe place.

A video?
Also, in case of hacking platform and leaking personal data.

Most of the time ive been using SMS authentication rather than Google 2fa because on the convenience that it gives IMHO.
You had mentioned that you havent logged on your account for a year then most likely you would surely forget those informations whats being asked by them.
It sucks when you cant answer even you do know that you are the owner of such account but as part of security measure they are just doing their job but
with those listed requirements is already exaggerated actually.

Unfortunately, what binance asked are the most commonly questions asked for recovering account, legally. Even me, If I encountered same like this which I do, I can't actually remember those lot of details, but fortunately, its my hobby to keep the registration emails and some login and deposit notification of exchanges. I did same thing like this with my bittrex account, sadly, I didn't successfully recover my account due of lack details I remembered.

Only thing I never used, is the SMS authentication which is a huge problem of a phone lost, I didn't feel it as a convenience way of using, due to not in all places I can received SMS but can access the internet and while 2fa doesn't require any internet as well. Also, 2fa can be backup and recover so it's a recommended way than SMS IMO.

I understand why Binance requires lots of things from their users but video for this case is not necessary imo, especially if they've requested a selfie pic + today's date. Maybe some users can fake this stuff but that could be avoided if they requires live time pic taken from webcam for example? (Not sure about the security tbh).

Anyway, I hope I don't have to go all of that steps if I ever lose my 2FA.

Yes you are right. I was a littile bit nervous at the time I was writing the answers.
The only thing was disturbing me if I answer wrong "my account is gone" even I know I am the actual owner.

Unfortunately, what binance asked are the most commonly questions asked for recovering account, legally. Also, 2fa can be backup and recover so it's a recommended way than SMS IMO.
If I knew that in future I may need the "registration welcome email" and the "deposit emails" then I would have not deleted those emails.
We both are different, I always delete those emails to keep my inbox clean and you always keep those emails as it is your hobby...

I haven't minded at all with the questions asked by Binance and other procedures I had to pass to gain access to my account again.
The only thing I didn't like is the video verification. It was so much irritating, seriously.

The main purpose to create this topic is to warn the community so that they can take precautions in advance to avoid such incidents.

Things to know,
- Never delete emails from Binance. It may require for verification purpose if you want to reset your 2fa.
- Note the IPs you usually use to login at Binance
- Keep a note of your 2-3 deposits - If your account gets blocked you can't check your history when they will ask for it.
- Lastly, practice not to laugh at shooting.

I have recovered my account. I have only answered with the IPs I used to login and answered some deposit info which I dug so deep to find out. Now I have switched to Google Authentication.
