Most of the time ive been using SMS authentication rather than Google 2fa because on the convenience that it gives IMHO.
You had mentioned that you havent logged on your account for a year then most likely you would surely forget those informations whats being asked by them.
It sucks when you cant answer even you do know that you are the owner of such account but as part of security measure they are just doing their job but
with those listed requirements is already exaggerated actually.
Yes you are right. I was a littile bit nervous at the time I was writing the answers.
The only thing was disturbing me if I answer wrong "my account is gone" even I know I am the actual owner.
Unfortunately, what binance asked are the most commonly questions asked for recovering account, legally. Even me, If I encountered same like this which I do, I can't actually remember those lot of details, but fortunately, its my hobby to keep the registration emails and some login and deposit notification of exchanges. I did same thing like this with my bittrex account, sadly, I didn't successfully recover my account due of lack details I remembered.
Only thing I never used, is the SMS authentication which is a huge problem of a phone lost, I didn't feel it as a convenience way of using, due to not in all places I can received SMS but can access the internet and while 2fa doesn't require any internet as well. Also, 2fa can be backup and recover so it's a recommended way than SMS IMO.
If I knew that in future I may need the "registration welcome email" and the "deposit emails" then I would have not deleted those emails.
We both are different, I always delete those emails to keep my inbox clean and you always keep those emails as it is your hobby...
I understand why Binance requires lots of things from their users but video for this case is not necessary imo, especially if they've requested a selfie pic + today's date. Maybe some users can fake this stuff but that could be avoided if they requires live time pic taken from webcam for example? (Not sure about the security tbh).
Anyway, I hope I don't have to go all of that steps if I ever lose my 2FA.
I haven't minded at all with the questions asked by Binance and other procedures I had to pass to gain access to my account again.
The only thing I didn't like is the video verification. It was so much irritating, seriously.
The main purpose to create this topic is to warn the community so that they can take precautions in advance to avoid such incidents.
Things to know,
- Never delete emails from Binance. It may require for verification purpose if you want to reset your 2fa.
- Note the IPs you usually use to login at Binance
- Keep a note of your 2-3 deposits - If your account gets blocked you can't check your history when they will ask for it.
- Lastly, practice not to laugh at shooting.
I have recovered my account. I have only answered with the IPs I used to login and answered some deposit info which I dug so deep to find out. Now I have switched to Google Authentication.
