The whole production chain of one of the market giants in the production of Bufala Campana PDO and derivatives mozzarella, will be visible to consumers through blockchain and a QR code which will enable all information to be fully accessed by scanning with smartphone.

From chicken to citrus fruits, fresh milk to wine, all are now using blockchain technology, for instance, Ricci Curbastro cellars in Franciacorta, Ruffino and Torrevento, the first to have implemented the solution of the global certification body Dnv Gl, based on the public blockchain VeChainThor, to set the history of the product, from the vine to the bottle, and to guarantee its origin and specificity.

I can't imagine me shopping at the supermarket with my smartphone and having fun scanning chickens and mozzarella and checking out a block explorer or whatever.
But it is still a good approach in case of problems, as recently in Europe with the infested beef from Poland.

There's a supermarket near me which has recently introduced small handheld scanners which you can take with you when you shop. You scan an item when you pick it up and put it in your trolley, and then at the end of the shop you just pay and leave without having to go through a checkout. Would be quite cool if you can integrate these two technologies - scan an item before you put it in your trolley, and it displays that product's production chain for you to see. Even better if at the end of the shop you can pay your bill with bitcoin and just walk out.

But it is still a good approach in case of problems, as recently in Europe with the infested beef from Poland.

If you're talking about the illegally slaughter meat scandal two months ago, this won't help you much.
They were faking everything, so all you can do is avoid all the beef meat from Poland and trust that the beef from Hungary has indeed been at least 4 seconds in Hungary.

Also, I would advise you to avoid chicken meat from Poland, just saying...avoid it!

Putting a tag, a stamp, a line in a blockchain means nothing since if the vet and owner are willing to fake papers they will fake info in the chain also since they are the ones inserting those lines and there are no "miners" that will travel to each farm and analyze each meat pack or bottle of milk or god knows what.

I like Amazon's idea more.
Put everything in your basket, and you're automatically charged when you go through the door.

But lately, Carrefour is expanding around here and seems like they are betting on delivery or simply pick-up, orders in excess of 50 euros get free delivery at the time you choose. Pretty convenient if you have a thought schedule during the day as lately, I can't stand the crowded hyper stores during rush hour when I get off from work and scanning my own products while being on a lookout for crazy trolley drivers is simply a no!

Big supermarkets have this as well here. But you'll only use it two or three times and later you'll give up. Because the chicken always comes from the same country, and is slaughtered by the same slaughterhouse, and is processed in the same factory. Even if once every 3 months you see the chicken was shot down in another slaughterhouse you will buy it.

Of course, the food traceability and to inform the consumer is something good, but it is more a way for companies to be proactive on food safety. It could even be a very efficient thing if, for example, all chicken's brands use the same blockchain all together

I'm jealous. I have to spend >120 euro equivalent to get free delivery, and anything less than that will charge anything from 2 euros for a delivery slot after 9pm on a weekday, to up to 8 euros for delivery within a 1 hour window on a weekend. I suppose the one bonus to working ridiculous shift patterns and on-calls - doing a weekly shop at 11pm or 5am is super easy.

This blockchain based tracking of goods probably lends itself more to online shopping, I would have thought? I'm probably pretty unlikely to stand in a store for several minutes scanning 10+ packets of chicken to find out which one has come from my chosen farm/butcher/supply chain, etc, but if I had a drop down menu of options to pick from, which I could then scan to confirm following delivery, I'd be much more likely to use that. It's also easier to pay online with bitcoin than it is to stand around for 10+ minutes waiting for a confirmation.

The market dictates this.
Like many old towns in Europe there is practically no space to put in a giant hypermarket and till now Carrefour hasn't done well with its small stores while Lidl and Aldi have managed to get some better positions in heavily populated residential areas.

So, rather than having clients go to the competition because driving to the outskirts of town is a pain in the ass in the afternoon, they went this way, turning more into something Amazon-like.

I'm probably pretty unlikely to stand in a store for several minutes scanning 10+ packets of chicken to find out which one has come from my chosen farm/butcher/supply chain,

Even if once every 3 months you see the chicken was shot down in another slaughterhouse you will buy it.

This is where the problems start, how long can the chain trace with accuracy products.
Is this Chorizo made with Spanish pig meat? Or it is made in Spain from meat from Italy, bought from a slaughterhouse in Slovenia, from a pig raised in Poland but bought as a young from Denmark and fed food imported from Germany.

And it might sound like an exaggeration but my family does own a farm and although we sell those to local slaughterhouse I've heard even worse and longer chains throughout the EU.

It's also easier to pay online with bitcoin than it is to stand around for 10+ minutes waiting for a confirmation.

Yesterday I paid for something though Coingate.
They needed 6!!!! 6 god damn confirmations and I timed my tx so fabulous that it went in the mempool right after 3 blocks were mined in less than 10 minutes.
It took  2 hours, imagine this when shopping....
