crwth, I am not sure how big or small is amount of money currently collected, but in my opinion, your idea to help farmers is maybe not the best what can be done with donations. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but farmers have land, they produce food and in most cases, they are not hungry. I can not say how the average farmer living in the Philippines at the present time, it is certainly not easy for them.

It may be better to focus on orphaned children, or homeless people and provide them at least some hope for the Christmas and New Year holidays. That's just my opinion, I support every action that will help someone, even in the smallest way.

In my stead, I would like to spend my time giving some food on the streets randomly when I start seeing poor and homeless people. But I don't think it can be a good Idea, its simply like giving them fish for a day and not a solution to get a fish for everyday.

I like how you said that it's not the best solution for them but what could you really do right? If you had the capacity to help them even in just giving them food would mean a lot to them, so why not right? I'm just thinking of right now. I don't know what program would best suit the problems that homeless people have but I think they would appreciate the food right? I don't know how they would be able to get up if they are not picking themselves up.

Or, simply introduce crypto on a certain Barangay and later on conduct a community service 😂 Besides the fund is almost Php17, 000... I can't think of a better Idea than yours actually but still on what place do you plan to go for a specific group of farmers?

Introducing cryptocurrencies to some people would be quite hard and probably won't understand immediately, maybe because it's intangible? Sometimes practicality is what they are looking for.

For the group of farmers though, I'm not yet sure but it would be quite easy for me to donate the money and the organizations with that capacity would be the ones responsible for it. I don't know if that would be a good scenario for everyone.

Farmers in the Philippines don't get what they deserve. With all the importation from other countries and the rice tariffication law being acted upon, the price of the rice goes down, which is good for consumers but bad for the farmers, with all those supplies coming around and less would be given to them. Those who are rich keep getting richer and the ones who are doing most of the leg work are getting stomped upon. This is just my reason why I chose this kind of charity work but that's why I'm also asking for opinions with other members as well.

We only have less than 2 months to decide on what should be the Next Activity for this Charity, if I were to be asked, if we were going to help again orphaned children, then it should be a different orphanage,... And as for feeding or giving foods to the Homeless People, we should be willing to exercise a bit, what I mean is to search every public places that any homeless will get to stay just like the QUEZON MEMORIAL CIRCLE, LUNETA PARK, etc.

Estimated, the funds will be more or less Php16,000. I don't know if there are anybody else here would like to help, besides not everyone is open here, they might rather donate personally to some Charity by themselves.

But in this phase we are planning to use all of the funds for Christmas to help the others.

I doubt it would require manpower and time with just donations, it's just basically giving money. But with an actual event to take place to help the needy, it would require more people than it should. It would be different to have an event like that and I think it would be more fulfilling to have done the job like that.

This is the main goal and to let people understand that there are good people in this world.

Hey there jekotb. I'm not sure how an Instagram page could help but probably announcing what's on the first post could be and using the charity address to donate to, I think that could be it. Maybe marketing as much as it can to receive donations would be good for the project.

I was actually curious about how much food could be bought for 0.04BTC or how much that money can actually buy/help in the Philippines. Since I am from Europe it's hard for me to imagine how much that money means in your country, and whether it makes sense to divide it, or to focus it on just one goal.

Well with BTC at a price of roughly 8,000$ we are speaking about 320$ as donation, which will buy more in the Philippines than in Europe f.e.

In my opinion "buying food" is a "one-time-thing" - don´t get me wrong, thats still great and setting up this thread/campaign was already worth the effort.

Anyway in cases like those, I would always recommend using the money for something sustainable, that will provide X people with Y products for the future.

Just like what @cabalism13 and @Scheede suggested, it would be just a one-time thing for them. I think it's a great idea to have a feeding program and invite them, instead of having to drive over wherever they are or something.

Well, let's look at it this way. If we have USD 320 (Thanks to @Scheede), it won't make sense to have multiple events anymore if the focus is to help more people. Concentrating on one event would be good.

The Average meal for the Philippines from an inexpensive restaurant is USD 2-5 [1] and if you are from Europe, let's say Belgium, according to the data it's around USD 11-22. [2].

So it's 100% more for an inexpensive restaurant meal when comparing Countries in Europe and the Philippines. So if we have USD 320, it would be 64-160 meals if we were to use it so that it could be a lot. Probably focusing on one goal would be best.

I am sure that there will be more donations until Christmas, and also the price of Bitcoin might be better than it is today.

Let's see if there will be more donations, and we're just in the planning phase. Maybe there would be more interesting projects and approaches to what we could do for the needy.

I had a fantastic talk with my friend, and I had asked her what to do with the current status of the charity. (She is someone, not that familiar with BTCT but is a helpful person) And she said that why not help them both? That conversation lighted up my mind and said, that's a great idea. So let's imagine it like this.

1. Find a direct buying of rice, probably in provincial areas. Factors could be the amount the farm produces and choose the least ones, to help most the needy
2. Buy Rice from the farmers directly. (No middlemen, no big corporations, etc.)
3. Distribute Rice accordingly with the right amount to last maybe a couple of weeks.
4. Targeted individuals are the less unfortunate, not the homeless. (I'm just worried they won't be able to cook the rice)
5. Buy canned goods and give it as a goodie bag.

I think this would be a great program if anyone agrees.

Probably they are the ones in the slums that have very little to nothing to eat. It would be wise to have a smaller sector of the government to assist us with this kind of activity. It would be easier and at least they know that we are trying to help them. Even for a few days.

Mentioning Skwater Areas makes me think of a joke by my friend when I was still in high school. SK-H2O. Lol.

I don't see anything wrong with this idea that actually helps all those who are vulnerable and need help, the only problem may be how to implement it. You first need to find farmers in provincial areas, which means you have to go directly there and negotiate with farmers on the purchase price. Then the rice must be transferred from the farmers to the place of distribution, and must also be distributed to those who are selected for donation. How many people actually are needed to put such an idea into action?

I have already expressed my opinion that children are an absolute priority, but also everyone else who is suffering in any way because of poverty.

I too like the idea, but see some downside to it:
1. the organisation of farmer, distribution since yet it seems nobody does have the direct contacts.
2. it is a one-time-help, what is still amazing, but I prefer "mid- to long-term"- projects.

That said I always find it difficult to find a valuable project/NGO to trust and that is not wasting a good portion of the donations for offices, travel-costs etc.
