Bitcointalk Over Estimating Their Popularity by Requesting KYC?

I logged in to this forum this morning and here is the notification message I got:-

"KYC is now required! In order to continue using the forum, submit your KYC information"

1. Does Bitcointalk seriously believes they are that important, that people would sumbit their detailed personally identifiable data just to use a forum.

2. Has anyone completed the KYC here?

3. Who gave Bitcointalk the mandate to conduct KYC on their users?

I am just curious to know why would a common forum be requesting KYC from users. I think this forum is over estimating their popularity.

I think theymos chose a bad joke this year. although it is related to the incidents of past years with nonsense of ICOs and the way they fooled people with KYC and the fact that these days everyone is talking about regulations,... I think choosing to place a big red text on top asking for KYC (which you later find is a joke) may not have been the best choice.

Hey you do not need to submit your real documents as this is not real, and Bitcointalk.org is run by Theymos who’s known to pull off such witty pranks on April fools day. I believe Theymos would be smiling his prank worked, I knew he would pull something off but for a second this seemed so real lol. I know the Bitcointalk guys have the right to request a Kyc if they so desire. You either abide or not use the platform. However, looking at the requirements of on the form, I think its a kind of "April fools' game" but yet, I played by the rules and filled the form accordingly. Bitcointalk is an already established platform with good reputation, as a matter of fact their popularity is not being over estimated but under estimated. I think that it will take a lot more than KYC to bring btt down. So, play along or keep calm. This post thread is not really necessary

Yes obviously, you need to fill all information as asked on the form.

Your data will be send to your local host, check the code. So there's actually no data being send even if you fill the form. Even if you don't post/submit any KYC you'll still be able to post.

A very dangerous joke by theymos imo, some innocent people might post their real KYC on the thread (and one of them already did).

Some peoples in here just post some crap without to find out what it is first. When i see something i always gonna search about it first to know whether it real or not. To be sure in case it not a joke or a real deal. Go find the page and read by yourself. Dont be lazy to read the news.

His been having jokes, it is up to you to understand how jokes are actually working. I see nothing wrong about it because actually this is all about fooling and since he have fooled a lot users including then I must say it is one of his most effective jokes.

It is too simple note that we are on the first day of april and how we celebrate it? we do fool someone. Sorry man but if you do have problem with how theymos did it you should talk to him directly or post your opinion on meta you might receive negative comments but that's fine so you can also read everyones opinion about it

I see many good sides of KYC procurement in this forum. With this KYC we can find out what kind of person other people are by looking at the verification provided by the admin of this forum so that we can assess the account whether the account is truly trusted when sending, especially shipping in the form of a project or something else.

Yeah--I'm sure the ones who believe Theymos would randomly roll out a KYC requirement are the ones who've never been involved in any Meta drama, else they would have read that quote that he'd only require KYC when hell freezes over.  It's been requoted many times, and personally I'm happy for that.

It would be beyond ironic if a forum dealing with discussion about a currency used by a bunch of people who want to remain anonymous decided to require KYC in order to post.  Forums like this aren't required to "know their customers".  That's for financial institutions, and that's where the KYC abbreviation came from.  No way would anyone in their right mind give up their dox to post on a forum.

Unfortunately, the SEC has ruled that merit is a security, and they order bitcointalk to require KYC from now on, or they will shut the whole thing down for violating the law. At first I was really worried, but now I see that KYC makes the forum safer and more regulated, and merit will probably go to the moon soon, especially if merit ETF will get approved soon.
