Author Topic: 2 different antminer S9s wont mine on the same network  (Read 197 times)

So,I have a very interesting problem.

I've ordered two used S9 antminers, set it up at home, ran both of them for 30-35 mintues(after each other,not at the same time) and after it i went to my mining storage, plugged in the two new miners, and after 5-10 minutes either of them is mining.

BUT

if i restart only 1-doesnt matter which one- it will mine without a hitch until i restart the other one as well and it starts mining. Then both them goes to "0ghs".

I've got 10 gpu rigs and 8 other antminers on this setup, so i dont think it should be a network connectivity problem,but im waiting for any suggestions if have!

I can't find any issue from the first kernel logs but for 2nd kernel logs it looks like it doesn't detect the fan properly.

The fan pwm shows zero compared to the first kernel logs.

Can you try to hard reset them first and test it again? Follow the guide from here How to reset miner to factory settings forget the 2. Restore via software and do 1 and 3 after that setup pool then reboot the miner and let them run at dynamic IP.

Also, run the 2nd miner(inactive one) for 20 minutes to generate enough logs so that we can find more about the 2nd miner.

Both have static IP which are different of course. So that can't happen that they are trying to connect to the same.

Can you take a look at the MAC address of each? (HWaddr value when you use ifconfig after logging via ssh). Can you post more details of your network configuration?

I'm sorry i didn't mention it because i was unaware, DO NOT upgrade any Antminer firmware to 2019 version, as this kills SSH access.

Would suggest resetting the miners to factory firmware.  There are 4 techniques, but only one works if your already running 2019 firmware:

On most of the machines I've done this on, the MAC has changed and my DHCP server has issued a new IP address.  After that, you might want to upload newer firmware of your choice.  Don't forget your will need to re-configure after resetting.

Mined for a living since 2017.  Dabbled for years before that.
Linux admin since 0.96 kernel and Slackware distributions on (4) floppies...

Thank you for everyone who helped, it seems at the end the problem was at my "landlord's" part. It seems that connecting the other miner caused uneven power draw to the system, which in return caused the miners to continuously restart.

Today we were able to sort things out,and it seems the problem has been solved.

Thanks again for everyone who helped,and sorry, i would've never imagined there could be some power issue with the provider.
