For some reason I wanted to find the average interest rates of bitcoin. The average interest rates needed are for last 5 years.
I did try to look up for it by myself and all I could get was an index of prices for couple of years and some graphs and charts.
Although I could retrieve the necessary price and manually calculate the average interest I would like if there was some tool or website for it.
Kinda lazy to manually do the calculation too  Tongue  Grin . Any recommendations on website/tools ?

i never bother with all time highs. as hardly anyone is online, deposited into exchanges intime to take advantage. but if basing thing on the LOWS, where everyone gets to experience atleast this amount. then its more a fair number

2015 - $177
2016 - $300(70%)
2017 - $900(200%)
2018 - $3600(300%)

edit: typo (alcohol and writing a 5 second math brainfart dont mix some nights Cheesy)

Ifnyou ask such technical question on the forum because all you will have is just bitcoin Price within that space of year you mentioned as you said 5 years and not the interest generate within this period may be you should check on the coin market capitalization you may get the right record there.

I just find out how you have calculated the percentage gains. According to me, the return should be 169% for the year 2016.
Must be a TYPO or something from your side. Well I was looking for a website or tool that could help me in calculating the returns for various period of time.
For example all the months in a particular year, all the years till date, a range of years etc..

Also if there is not such website I also thought of creating one. Would like to get opinions for the same. Would it be worth it ?
Is there a need for such ? I am personally interested in finding such average returns but are there others who think there is a need for such thing ?

That would be a waste of time in my opinion. The extreme volatility of this market is the primary reason why it is tough to derive any sort of accurate average returns on a yearly basis.

Just look at the figures posted by franky1 where the percentages are all over the place which by themselves do not paint the full picture.

that seems correct to me unless you are using different numbers to calculate the percentage.
Code:
((300-177)/177)*100 = ~70%

it is kind of a weird thing to calculate because it doesn't make much sense. you either want to see how much bitcoin has risen from a certain time in which case you just open any chart and see the price at that time like price at the beginning of 2017.
or you are a day trader in which case calculating the "return" is more complicated than that because it requires YOUR orders and their prices.

Well if that's the case then how would the 2017's and 2018's percentage would be found out ?
2017:
((900-300)/300)*100 = 200%

2018:
((3600-900)/900)*100 = 300%
But the percentage is different from what franky1 has posted.

I assumed the forumla franky1 used was
2017:
(900/300)*100 = 300%

2018:
(3600/900)*100 = 400%

hence for 2015:
(300/177)*100 = 170%

Well I want it for my own research and the charts are not helping me. But I have found out that it's just me and the numbers does not attract others.

I think it will take time to calculate it because we all know that bitcoin is volatile and unstable.  Bitcoin has been through a lot but I think it would be hard to count or calculate the total percentage or average returns but you could find some answers to your questions here :

i think he might have messed up by posting how many times the price went up as in "went up 3x" instead of percentage for the next 3.
$300 to $900 -> 3x
$900 to $3600 -> 4x

have you tried one of those sources which allows you to export the data in JSON or CSV format? i think bitcoincharts.com had that option. then you can do a better analysis on the raw data yourself.

In the last five years ;
(Taking the gross average)

2018:-1403.48$
2017:-1306.548$
2016:-403.49$
2015:-233.50 $
2014:- 591.12$

Now we are calculating the average returns ; it will be from the point of origin to the present now.

(For 3.74$ as the average starting rate for the Bitcoins)

For 2018:-  1403.48-3.74/3.74 * 100 = 37426.20%
For 2017:- 1306.548-3.74/3.74*100= 34834.438%
For 2016:- 403.49-3.74/3.74*100=

Ok bro so you know just calculate it like this , too much calculations am out 😂🙌

Is there a need for such ? I am personally interested in finding such average returns but are there others who think there is a need for such thing ?

my thoughts
1. you mention average returns. but you first have to define average of what..
average of highs - not good as thats speculation which not everyone gets to experience/take advantage of
average of lows - though this solves the issue with previous, you then have to think of start date for each average
average of day? week? month? year?

2. also this stat is maybe 'positive' hype giving. but practically not helpful. for instance people trade individually so although a blanket average looks positive, each user has different experiences. like i personally dont think about yearly average. i just day trade some play money and make 1% a day meaning getting over 300% a year even on periods where prices look stagnant
(cumulatively earns more then compound)

when it comes to 'averages' anyone can manipulate numbers not by changing the numbers, but changing the context of the numbers. as i said average of highs would be different to average of lows even if the start and end dates matched. then average of highs/lows would be different by changing the start and end date, then theres the cumulative vs compound things.

so all-in-all. nice bit of small hype stat, but not really a fact finding stat everyone benefits/experiences/receives

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

If your asking about interst rate what percentage of interest your calculating lets say if your looking for 10% interest of year then find the average bitcoin price for the whole year and take 10% for that . By simple if you want accurate interest rate then take daily 10% interest percetage .Like today bitcoin price is 5100$ so 10% of that calculate . 5100 X 10 / 100 = 510 then divide by 365 . So it will be 1.39 per day by this kind of calculation you may need days to calculate.

This is hard because no one can read the future, so, to know the average of your investment is like to have a magic ball... but at least i have good news for you, after some math the equation say 5 years is the magic number to become rich, i know 5 years is a long wait but the average at that time for sure will be more than 100%

So 5 years will be the best time for us to make a big profit and we could be a rich person from bitcoin.
I think it's difficult to find the average interest rates of bitcoin because the bitcoin price was moving in every year so we are hard to find the average. The example of the price was shown by franky1 and we could only sum all of the price that was happen 5 years ago and then we could divide the percentage or else, sorry I don't know how to do that but I guess franky1 already did the good job to calculate the percentage Grin
