It’s not easy being a crypto fund manager. As well as unruly markets and elusive valuations, there’s the increasing competition and pressure on fees. And performance has been lackluster: Vision Hill’s Q1 report showed that, on average, active funds have underperformed bitcoin so far this year.

The bear market of 2018 triggered the closure of many crypto funds, and a report released last week by PwC and Elwood Asset Management showed that there are far fewer active funds in existence than we had been led to believe.

The report also pointed out that, given a median management fee of 2% and a median fund size of $4 million, operational sustainability is tough: $80,000 recurring income is not enough to cover salaries and other overheads, especially given the likelihood of increasing compliance requirements.

The PwC/Elwood report mentions some steps that funds are taking to boost recurring income, such as market making and advisory roles.

It overlooks one potentially significant source of revenue, however: crypto lending. Funds could lend out the assets they hold, for a fee.

Given the growing demand for crypto lending services, this potential income stream could be enough to give a number of funds a greater chance of survival, as well as inject liquidity and diversity into the sector.

It could also, however, add hidden risk to the market overall.

Crypto funds act as a “basket” of different digital assets and can offer a variety of benefits over purchasing individual coins, such as ease of management and the relative safety that comes with diversification. Fortunately, creating and maintaining your own fund just became a lot easier, the platform notes.

Will there be in the future any kind of dividends and stocks to also invest in ?  To maybe diversify some money in stocks and some in crypto ?

Do you have an article on how theese management fees are calculated I would really like to know the 'math' behind. Some of the fees are maybe 1% and some are up to 6%. I have checked the market cap / AUM and there is actually no connection between the fees and the market cap.  (For example: We take MoonShot fund  that takes 1% fee and has a market cap of 43.000 € and the other one is Global Macro Crypto that takes 6% management fee and has less capital I mean market cap of 30.000 € ).

Okay congradulations on that. But where can I find some more info about the coins I want to invest. I need some previous highs/lows, news, why would I invest and all kinds of similar info. Kind of like buying stocks. You want to know as much as you can about the company you are investing in and than keep on tracking and following the latest updates. On my fund if I invest in multiple cryptos I want a really good background on the tokens/startups. Right ?
