Last weekend I spend some time with some of my relatives and one of them were playing a online game called, Forge of Empires. This is a browser-based strategy game with more than 10 million registered users  Shocked

The main goal of the game is to expand and develop a city beginning from the Stone Age and ending in the Virtual Future. (They even have Crypto currencies as a tradable commodity within the game)  Grin <Well, not actual Crypto currencies, just a in-game commodity>

So after watching my nephew playing for 1 hour and talking to him, he revealed to me that he spend over $1000 on buying virtual diamonds in the game. <in 6 months>  Roll Eyes

We started talking about real Crypto currencies and he immediately started the argument that Crypto currencies are "fake" money and that it was not real money or even a commodity. My counter argument floored him, because I asked him if the diamonds that he bought in the game was real or if the items that he bought in the game was real.?

His whole perspective on Crypto currencies changed, when he realized that digital items can have a value and that the virtual items that he bought within the game had less value than the bitcoins that can be bought and sold.  Wink

He asked me to help him buy some bitcoins and he was very happy after a week, when he saw his investment in the supposed "fake" money, going up in value when the price increased.

Should we confront more people with the argument that most of the digital items that are bought online, might have less value than Crypto currencies.  Wink

Ps. I emailed the developers of the game <InnoGames> and asked them if they might consider accepting Bitcoin as a payment option, but they gave the generic answer that they are open to new payment options, but they cannot give a timeframe for when this might happen. <I think more people should ask them>  Tongue

How can become that bitcoin was a fake money, if Bitcoin itself can be convertible into fiat currency?
Aside from that, why some other merchants in the entire world are accepting bitcoin as mode of payment to
their business too? How would you explain that?

Just like that your relative, many people have the same perception about btc, they don't believe that btc or Digital currency in general has real value outside the internet, most people can only believe and trust what they can feel and tough, i also know lots of people who looks at you in a strange manner when you start the topic of digital currency and how it has evolved, i think confronting more people is not a bad idea but convincing them to really fully believe is the big problem, some people are very close minded, you can't penetrate Grin

if there are people who don't believe they are someone who doesn't know Bitcoin well. learn the understanding of bitcoin so that we will be able to find out what benefits we can get from using bitcoin and other digital currencies. Bitcoin is real and its digital form makes bitcoin a practical financial system.

the currency in the game is fake currency. not Bitcoin. if your relatives begin to realize about the BTC and crypto currencies after you explain to him, then, guide your relatives to better understand the concept of decentralization!. I often argue with my family about crypto and BTC currencies. finally. they also support me. but they are stupid, primitive and don't care. so my family has no interest in joining the crypto world.

I do not think why it would be faked, but if it was a bitcoin faked then it would not have been used so long and it would have been damaged soon but in reality it is seen that its usage will be increasing day by day.so how can we tell Bitcoin fake money  Smiley

Even in the late 1990s already I was exposed to this kind of concept when visiting South Korean students (usually with rich dads trying to get them to escape mandatory national service) would spend their entire day just grinding on some hack and slash, collecting items skins... and paying through their nose just to get supposedly rare armour and weapons. A few years later you'd hear of job postings basically offering you to play games and get paid for it. Imagine a room of 20-30 computers, kids just playing games grinding out hours just to collect items that get sent to a central account. People would get paid shit rates, but because it was games they thought they were getting a great deal. Apparently, it's still a thing 20 years later, except that kids have more income and the industry is getting even bigger. Last I checked with mid 20s playing things like Forge of Empires, a couple of hundred dollars a week was the norm.

So digital money = fake money? Hasn't been true for 20 years.

If people are willing to pay for something, there's your value.

those who are not familiar with cryptocurrency will assume  cryptocurrency is  a fake money and also assume scam and others. I will agree with that assumption, when in the begining I think the same about cryptocurrency. because basically cryptocurrencies are digital and are still difficult to use in the real world, that is understandable why people cannot understand them well.

I would love to discuss these with my nephew but I don't think my words will get through him. He is a lovely and kind nephew it's just that he doesn't want to do something that he doesn't want or he has no interest in. He likes to earn money but he does it in his own way that also made me proud of him. Though I hope I can get through him like that.

One takeaway from this story is the subjectivity of money and value. A unit of something - tangible or digital - has value that others perceive it to have and which they are then willing to spend for it. This perception of value can fluctuate over time. As bitcoin comes of age, this perception of value is likely to grow.

The right word shouldn't be "confront". I think persuade/coax/convince should be appropriate in such a matter like winning people over to our line of thought. For me, I don't even allow the negative thoughts of people on Bitcoin affect my decision. I am pro-bitcoin and that's what matters

I'm kinda used to these people. I observe them by throwing a few simple questions in their direction to test them; if they pass the test, I'll do my best to educate them, but if they fail, I will not waste a single second explaining what Bitcoin is. Those who don't care or think it's a scam or fake by default won't listen to anything of what you say. It's ear in ear out.

I have noticed that it's way easier to convince people of Bitcoin being digital Gold rather than money. If you take into consideration that most westerners already have a solid legacy payment infrastructure to use, it's not that much of a surprise that they see Bitcoin as an inferior form of money, but an asset that appeals to them as being digital Gold. The mining aspect of Bitcoin further stimulates that way of thinking.

This post basically belongs in the Bitcoin discussion section which is why I agree with the poster above me.

The biggest problem with transacting with BTC is the process is not that simple when compared to other digital payment methods(Visa, mastercard, Paypal etc) which is why we need a better system when compared to the current one to solve this issue and simplify the process.

It might be crypto showing is useful even in the online games they can use it, and i agree need to fix the issue how to improve crypto use in online game become valuable especially bitcoin.

Good job, you were able to transform the mind of the young ones, from non believer to a believer, of course it will start with the family.
I am not personally reaching out first with my family and convince them, if they are interested and they will ask me, that's the time I start talking and some of my relatives were really convince but others seems to be skeptical, especially the old ones who like the traditional system of investment.

the definition of fake money is a currency that has no value, cannot be used for transactions, and its value does not last long. and BTC does not have such an indication. so. only stupid people say that BTC is fake money. Your relatives must be given a detailed explanation of BTC and the crypto world. I hope. Your relatives don't say that anymore.

A nice story OP but I do not how your nephew will react if price drop again.
Most likely not in a positive way. It reminds me of how people talk about market manipulation when the price is tanking, but completely ignore manipulation when the price is nicely going up.

I know from experience that some of my coworkers were skeptical about Bitcoin at first, then made some profits in 2017 because it was very difficult to lose, then turned in skeptics again after their paper losses increased significantly.

People find everything ok as long as they are on the winning hand, but as soon as they notice that losses are looming, they change and start blaming all types of external elements instead of their own ignorance.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

People find everything ok as long as they are on the winning hand, but as soon as they notice that losses are looming, they change and start blaming all types of external elements instead of their own ignorance.

Any Tom,dick and Harry can make profit in rising market. I guess rising market rise more because all think it will continue to rise. Panic starts when prices start to fail and people start losing their rational. Then brilliant opportunity also do not look good to them.

I am happy that OP introduced his nephew to bitcoin but if OP nephew is happy because BTC gained price then I doubt that his nephew future outlook might again change to earlier one.

Its great to see more people now dare to asked the developers to accept the crypto payment, now the reputation of crypto already establish and its time to expand and introduce it to the whole world, many people still misunderstood about crypto, we need to have more seminar to make people more understand about crypto, and usually this whole misunderstanding caused by the negative publishing from the media

the definition of fake money is a currency that has no value, cannot be used for transactions, and its value does not last long.

value does not last long ? but you said fake money doesnt have a value  ? play money ( the ones that being used by kids to play ) is an example of fake money  . they are being used for playing of for props when doing films and other play  .

and BTC does not have such an indication. so. only stupid people say that BTC is fake money

the reason why people call bitcoin a fake money is because they dont see it and they dont have enough knowledge on what they are talking about  .

Your relatives must be given a detailed explanation of BTC and the crypto world. I hope.

no need to explain in a detailed way because that may lead to a more confusions  . instead explain only bitcoin/crypto in a basic way  . tackle the main benfit and disadvantages  . simple as that  .

Some persons around me always think I waste too much of my time online chasing something that actually have no value instead of me to get a better job. So when I was preparing to get married they became curious as to where to get the funding, but when I eventually got married, some came that they now believe that bitcoin is not fake, that they are sorry for their wrong interpretation, some are currently learning how bitcoin work from me while few now buy and sell bitcoin on their own. I think people will have more faith on result than theorem.
