Last weekend I spend some time with some of my relatives and one of them were playing a online game called, Forge of Empires. This is a browser-based strategy game with more than 10 million registered users  

The main goal of the game is to expand and develop a city beginning from the Stone Age and ending in the Virtual Future. (They even have Crypto currencies as a tradable commodity within the game)   <Well, not actual Crypto currencies, just a in-game commodity>

So after watching my nephew playing for 1 hour and talking to him, he revealed to me that he spend over $1000 on buying virtual diamonds in the game. <in 6 months>  

We started talking about real Crypto currencies and he immediately started the argument that Crypto currencies are "fake" money and that it was not real money or even a commodity. My counter argument floored him, because I asked him if the diamonds that he bought in the game was real or if the items that he bought in the game was real.?

His whole perspective on Crypto currencies changed, when he realized that digital items can have a value and that the virtual items that he bought within the game had less value than the bitcoins that can be bought and sold.  

He asked me to help him buy some bitcoins and he was very happy after a week, when he saw his investment in the supposed "fake" money, going up in value when the price increased.

Should we confront more people with the argument that most of the digital items that are bought online, might have less value than Crypto currencies.  

Ps. I emailed the developers of the game <InnoGames> and asked them if they might consider accepting Bitcoin as a payment option, but they gave the generic answer that they are open to new payment options, but they cannot give a timeframe for when this might happen. <I think more people should ask them>

I think the topic doesn't belong here. It talks more about bitcoin and bitcoin awareness, not relevant to gambling at all.

It's actually great how cryptocurrency awareness reached young kids even thru games. Since bitcoin is being adapted and used as a form of payment, game developers should consider this too, saving players risk of using credit/debit cards on paying game credits.

Good way on how you enlightened your nephew about cryptocurrency. Number of young people getting involved in crypto is increasing as time goes by, cryptocurrency awareness for newbies should be eminent, for newbies not to get a wrong impression for crypto such as scam or a way to lose your money easily.

The biggest problem with transacting with BTC is the process is not that simple when compared to other digital payment methods(Visa, mastercard, Paypal etc) which is why we need a better system when compared to the current one to solve this issue and simplify the process.

First of all you have to move this thread to the bitcoin discussion section and back to you post, many people have misconception about bitcoin and while I was going through your post I discovered that your nephew view about bitcoin being fake money comes from the game he was playing since he was owning fake bitcoin in the game and using it only in the game but his view change when you proof to him that bitcoin exist in real form and is tradable. What most people need is the right orientation about bitcoin and the cryptocurrencies entirely.

In my opinion, game currencies had also value because you paid to earn or have it. Game currency could also not having value as game currency is a business by the company of the game to fund their game and profit. In short, game currency has value because you have to pay for it and doesn't have value. The thread should be moved to the correct board.

I agree that people assume bitcoin has no value because it's not tangible, yet they have no problem regarding fiat currencies as having value even though they are now mostly digital. A currency does not have to have a paper asserting it is approved by a particular government. I think it's the assumption that a currency needs to be government backed that drives this belief.

My friend had the same experience though it did not end well.

He told me that story years ago in their house and it is the first time he knew about it. His parents are talking about points on a platform and he thought he might tell them about Bitcoin but they kind of disagree with it. They think that it is a scam and people are trying to get on it so they can just leave them and run with their money. I can't blame him to not answer that question since as I said, he just knew about it at that time. We just let them time pass and that is when the time that the price reached its ATH and we sold some to prove to his parents that it is not a scam. They have their reasons and still a lot of arguments about it but while the time passes, they are starting to like how their son is earning money with it. I'm sure that devs of that game will just follow the trend of accepting btc if it gets adapted. But back to the topic, btc already has its innovative use but the 'need' which is always the number one ingredient in a product or service is still not present on people so we just need to make them feel it like the way they need the items or skins in a video game.

Exactly! Bitcoin can be medium of exchange so it is actually money for that matter though this is digital. Just like your nephew didn't understand before, others in the world too fails to understand that money can be said to be anything any two or more individuals gives value to and intend to accept in exchange for goods or services. Just like that your relative, many people have the same perception about btc, they don't believe that btc or Digital currency in general has real value outside the internet, most people can only believe and trust what they can feel and tough, i also know lots of people who looks at you in a strange manner when you start the topic of digital currency and how it has evolved, i think confronting more people is not a bad idea but convincing them to really fully believe is the big problem, some people are very close minded, you can't penetrate

Even in the late 1990s already I was exposed to this kind of concept when visiting South Korean students (usually with rich dads trying to get them to escape mandatory national service) would spend their entire day just grinding on some hack and slash, collecting items skins... and paying through their nose just to get supposedly rare armour and weapons. A few years later you'd hear of job postings basically offering you to play games and get paid for it. Imagine a room of 20-30 computers, kids just playing games grinding out hours just to collect items that get sent to a central account. People would get paid shit rates, but because it was games they thought they were getting a great deal. Apparently, it's still a thing 20 years later, except that kids have more income and the industry is getting even bigger. Last I checked with mid 20s playing things like Forge of Empires, a couple of hundred dollars a week was the norm.

So digital money = fake money? Hasn't been true for 20 years.

I'm kinda used to these people. I observe them by throwing a few simple questions in their direction to test them; if they pass the test, I'll do my best to educate them, but if they fail, I will not waste a single second explaining what Bitcoin is. Those who don't care or think it's a scam or fake by default won't listen to anything of what you say. It's ear in ear out.

I have noticed that it's way easier to convince people of Bitcoin being digital Gold rather than money. If you take into consideration that most westerners already have a solid legacy payment infrastructure to use, it's not that much of a surprise that they see Bitcoin as an inferior form of money, but an asset that appeals to them as being digital Gold. The mining aspect of Bitcoin further stimulates that way of thinking.

It might be crypto showing is useful even in the online games they can use it, and i agree need to fix the issue how to improve crypto use in online game become valuable especially bitcoin.

Most likely not in a positive way. It reminds me of how people talk about market manipulation when the price is tanking, but completely ignore manipulation when the price is nicely going up.

I know from experience that some of my coworkers were skeptical about Bitcoin at first, then made some profits in 2017 because it was very difficult to lose, then turned in skeptics again after their paper losses increased significantly.

People find everything ok as long as they are on the winning hand, but as soon as they notice that losses are looming, they change and start blaming all types of external elements instead of their own ignorance.

Some persons around me always think I waste too much of my time online chasing something that actually have no value instead of me to get a better job. So when I was preparing to get married they became curious as to where to get the funding, but when I eventually got married, some came that they now believe that bitcoin is not fake, that they are sorry for their wrong interpretation, some are currently learning how bitcoin work from me while few now buy and sell bitcoin on their own. I think it's better to not force it to be like money at all. It's an alternative. It can be used for transactions just like money but somehow different. The gamer angle was just mentioned, because it is so ironic that people will associate value to digital items in games, but when you talk about a digital token like Bitcoin, they think it is some kind of scam or a worthless piece of code.

I think the misconception of btc or cryptocurrency to been fake is largely related to the experience most people have had with ponzi and hype scheme, many people who have had contact with ponzi scheme and fall a victim believe crypto is nothing but a scam,

He asked me to help him buy some bitcoins and he was very happy after a week, when he saw his investment in the supposed "fake" money, going up in value when the price increased.

Sorry for late reply but your scenario seems very curious for me. It's 100% different thing whenbyou pay money in games to buy diamond and develop your character or empire or anything. It's addictive at some point because you are so turned in game that you pay money to develop faster and better.

Should we confront more people with the argument that most of the digital items that are bought online, might have less value than Crypto currencies.

I emailed the developers of the game <InnoGames> and asked them if they might consider accepting Bitcoin as a payment option, but they gave the generic answer that they are open to new payment options, but they cannot give a timeframe for when this might happen. <I think more people should ask them>

Last weekend I spend some time with some of my relatives and one of them were playing a online game called, Forge of Empires. This is a browser-based strategy game with more than 10 million registered users  

The main goal of the game is to expand and develop a city beginning from the Stone Age and ending in the Virtual Future. (They even have Crypto currencies as a tradable commodity within the game)   <Well, not actual Crypto currencies, just a in-game commodity>

So after watching my nephew playing for 1 hour and talking to him, he revealed to me that he spend over $1000 on buying virtual diamonds in the game. <in 6 months>  

We started talking about real Crypto currencies and he immediately started the argument that Crypto currencies are "fake" money and that it was not real money or even a commodity. My counter argument floored him, because I asked him if the diamonds that he bought in the game was real or if the items that he bought in the game was real.?

His whole perspective on Crypto currencies changed, when he realized that digital items can have a value and that the virtual items that he bought within the game had less value than the bitcoins that can be bought and sold.

On googleplay look for crypto galaxy, phoneum treasure hunt (something like that), laser chain and worldopo. They are all crypto games you can earn crypto with.

This post basically belongs in the Bitcoin discussion section which is why I agree with the poster above me.

The biggest problem with transacting with BTC is the process is not that simple when compared to other digital payment methods(Visa, mastercard, Paypal etc) which is why we need a better system when compared to the current one to solve this issue and simplify the process.

Just wait till Satoshi Nakamoto announce it! Many people are also have problem dealing with the slow network transaction. But eventually, it will resolve by proponents of bitcoin. BTC will become better soon as it will develop the core system specially when it comes in network. But right now, bitcoin carried out most of altcoins and that is the primary goal of btc.

Perhaps those with limited knowledge about what btc is will most likely consider it as such, people have doubt about things they have not come in contact with, i know so people around me who have this same believe, some are now convince that btc can be use for transaction others are yet to be convinced, as time pass by more people will understand.

Yup, that's correct. There are so many of them that the way they think is exactly like that. Many of the people nowadays are still thinking bitcoin is not real and I guess in the future the last thing that they wanna say is that they regret not believing in it at first. Personally, I know some kind of these people, I do not blame them but I am trying to say that in the future for sure bitcoin will be included.

Talking about volatility. Well, even metals are volatile that includes gold. Remember that gold has existed since centuries and centuries ago and you see the price graph it's volatile. Not to mention that there are also tons and tons of stocks and currencies that have crazy volatility and government seem to legalize that. While the reason for government to forbid crypto is to protect their civilian, I think the biggest reason is to keep their economy and money flows in control.

Those who do not understand bitcoin needs a proof for them to believe that it is real and not fake as they think. Now it is being even on stores and able to pay bills wherever you are with fast transaction process. Many are being interested when they know that it has more benefits and really worth to invest.

The politics behind the financial economy depends on the few changeable aspects. Gold has been a backup value of worldwide current and supply is very limited compared to the 21 mln BTC. Even China has an equivalent gold and USD reserves for a case and the Chinese government is not crypto friendly.

nowadays it has really great value (many users used that bitcoin).

Yeah, this thread will encourage game of throne players to suggest on the developer to include bitcoin as a payment option. This will benefit both the company and the user when doing transaction simply because of blockchain technology. No one could be ask for whether transaction was successful or not because every party can visit the block chain to see if transaction was successful or not.
