^  I think JDM could win this with the fight being a 5 rounder.  Sure the early couple of rounds could go to Prates as that's where he's strongest but the latter rounds could go to JDM.  But we'll see...  The fight is lined up as almost a coin flip which is the right line.

Well, I missed most of those fights. I didn't realise they were on so early. Out of the fights I watched:

Carlos Prates dominated. I mean really dominated. I've had my doubts about Quillan Salkilld but he looked good, real good.

Marwan Rahiki looking like a star, although I do think he struggles against the more skilled ranked opponents.

Brando Peričić is a breath of fresh air for the heavyweight division and Shamil Gaziev is too tough for his own good. Meanwhile, Louie Sutherland won but didn't impress at all, a few more performances like that and I can see him getting cut. Tai probably needs to hang it up unfortunately.


What I saw of the event it wasn't a great night of fights. Maybe, I'm just bummed about that Tai vs Louie fight still .

Prates is good. I didn't expect he could defeat JDM with such ease. He started off defensively, allowing JDM to have the initiative and was just reacting with counters, but, sometime in the 2nd round, he smelled blood and realised JDM poses no real threat, so he stepped on the gas pedal and earned another TKO victory and performance of the night award.
But the truth being told, it didn't look like JDM showed up properly prepared. His tactic either sucked or was executed poorly. He couldn't close the distance. He was just walking and following Prates. Each time Prates' back got close to the cage, he would just quickly escape to the side with JDM not even trying to stop him. And in the 2nd and 3rd JDM was doing this weird thing when he would get really close but instead of launching any attack, he would just put up a guard and let Carlos do his thing.

When the ranking is updated, Prates will likely move up to the top 3, so is in a good spot to ask for the title shot, assuming this is what he wants, as it's not obvious. He might prefer to keep fighting other strikers rather than have to deal with Islam's wrestling.

I had said I wouldn’t be surprised by any outcome from this fight, but I never imagined a fight like this. Those knees coming from on that fight is just vicious and on point. Knees on the head, elbows on the head, those kicks on his legs that affected him at the end of the 2nd round until the 3rd round. I mean all of Prates' strikes are just on point and that's what makes him "The Nightmare" of the welterweight.

Now the big question is, "Will Prates have a chance to defeat Makachev?" It might be a bit boring (at least for me), but both him and Chimaev are the best when it comes to grappling. Can Prates hold those grappling skills of Makachev. We know that both of them will face each other probably in the 2nd half of this year, so let's just wait.

To my big surprise, my two bets on Prates and Salkilld have won Prates as usually receives a bonus for his fight. 8 wins, 8 finishes in UFC, perfect record. I think it is time for him to face Garry again, avenge his loss and be the one to face Makhachev (and lose to ultimate wrestling ). Fight against Morales also looks interesting.

Salkilld did only expected thing - tested Dariush chin and all I can say that this chin is cracked hard. Probably its a crystal chin right now.

JDM takedowns Prates several times. Prates had a hard time in the wrestling against JDM. I especially recommend paying close attention to the end of the first round. Prates is undoubtedly a very good fighter, but he wouldn’t stand much of a chance against Islam in a situation like this.

Congratulations, everyone said both fighters were top-tier, but very few predicted Prates’ victory.

We’re likely looking at an Islam vs. Garry match next. Without a doubt, it would be a good idea to compare the winner of that fight to Prates. I’m sure everyone would be happy with that, except Morales. He doesn’t really deserve to be left out, but the competitive atmosphere in the weight class is what’s causing this.

There is always a chance, if Islam Makhachev think about striking with Carlos Prates then it will be a bad night for Islam as Prates have a Muay Thai and kickboxing background and an elite striker and have good grappling defense and it will be an interesting fight, Makhachev will be the heavy favorite .

Here are the results...  Wow, I really didn't expect Prates to have a really good performance against JDM.  I thought it was gonna be close.

The most surprising part in fight JDM vs Prates, that JDM could not find his distance and his elite boxing failed at every aspect. He has landed some good shots to Prates face, but Prates with his reach kept well on distance, and as soon JDM entered close distance, perfect for boxing, Prates landed nasty knees and elbows. I thought that close distance will be when JDM makes his work and starts winning, but Prates took all rounds and every distance.

P.S. funny how people complain that smoking and drinking are bad, but then look at Prates Dude never slow down, even in late rounds

Prates won this fight, but that doesn’t change the fact that alcohol and smoking are bad for our health. Even if Prates wins the belt, that fact won’t change. I quit cigarettes 15 years ago. I was an active cigarette smoker for 10 years in the past. Prates is an exception, and exceptions don’t break the general principles... :)


Are there people looking for a surprise in the fight between Khamzat and Strickland? It’s going to be an unlucky night for Strickland. He couldn’t even stand his feet against DDP. I think we’ll see him in a really bad position in this fight...

I know Khamzat Chimaev is favorite in fight against Strickland but I cant believe such low odds on him to win.
Everyone is expecting short fight but I think Strickland can go to distance, and if he is going to lose that is going to be by decision.
Dont forget there are other good fights to watch on this fight card, not just main event.

@notblox1. I reckon that the Sean the cracker Strickland might be strangled to sleep in 1 rounds. This fight might end similar to Khamzat's fight against Robert Whittaker where Khamzat was very fast on holding Robert and strangled the neck of Robert. However, the difference is Robert has tapped and Sean the cracker might not tap and we will witness him strangled to sleep.

Yup...  All the match ups in the main card are really good.  In the prelims I like Dawson vs. Rebecki in the early prelims I think Kopylov vs Tulio and Sabatini vs Gomis will be good.  Can't wait!

I was only joking about Prates unserious approach in being a professional athlete Or, we could be lead wrong all the time that smoking and drinking are so destructive Because I know lots of people who, lets say, love to have a drink or two, or more, and they do quite well in amateur sport. Anyway, I really wish to see how far could Prates climb in sports, and will he one day regret that instead of completely focusing on career and sport, he has dedicated some of his health to alcohol and smoking.

If he could smoke into the octagon, he would spend the entire fight smoking his cigarette and throwing the shit at his opponents. This guy is insane, he managed to completely shut down any strategy his opponent had. He won a great fight all by himself.

I am looking forward seeing pre fight conference I am sure Strickland will make me laugh again. I am sure he will try to piss off Chimaev who is hot tempered. They already have beef. Who Strickland has started. Conflict where Chimaev promised to punish Strickland for bad mouth, that caused Strickland to carry gun (which he carry anyway) all the time

Strickland is an underdog with +5.00 odds. Anyone wants to take a risk? Nobody believed in Strickland in fight against Izzy, he was also a huge underdog then.

The fact that Islam couldn't finish JDM, doesn't mean much for me because it was Islam's first fight in new, higher weight division and he had to win it, no matter what, so it's logical that he was very careful. Khamzat couldn't finish Du Plesis either and we saw that he was very careful. Islam can beat Prates, I'm 100% sure about that.

Anyways, did anyone see the trailer of new UFC game? They showed how Ilia Topuria beats Arman Tsarukyan by giving him a good punch in the jaw. It was very funny and I'm sure that will drive Arman crazy.
