Garcia is an interesting pick. Why you have chosen him instead of Lopez? Lopez has been given a lot in advance. I am speaking about two fights against Volkanovski. If first fight was so-so expected and deserved, second one was definitely not. I think Lopez reputation has decreased, and he need to fight back his trust from UFC and fans. He should be trying to show his best this Sunday.

By saying "I also wonder if the winner will try to challenge Islam Makhachev after this fight" you already say that Topuria is going to win, because he is the one who is hunting Makhachev Makhachev has already told that he has zero plan returning to lightweight. Gaethje is not planning to move up no next division. There are lots of questions to Topuria if he plans to move to welterweight. He will look like dwarf in that division. Besides, Gaethje is one step from retirement. Before getting interim belt, he was talking a lot about retirement. If not belt on his waste, he would have left gloves on center of octagon long time ago and retire.

Topuria is winning by UD that?s my prediction;don?t ask me why ?. And after this fight, i think the logical option for his next opponent should be arman tsarukyan. Because it is clear that makachev is already comfortable at welterweight so the chances of him moving back to lightweight is very low. Unless of course if Dana white decides to organize a champion vs champion super fight scenario but for now i don?t think ilia is ready to move up to welterweight yet.
Gaethje on the other hand is already at the end of his career so i don?t think there is much to expect from him anymore perhaps after he loses this fight with Ilia which i know he will, he might get a few fights before finally moving to the final chapter in his career.

Regardless of the unanimous decisions, Topuria always manages to take home the win, which is why I think he'll win this fight too! I don't think a deal for a fight will be finalized with Arman, and Topuria is more targeting big names to solidify his career! And usually, after finishing a division, fighters inevitably have to move up a weight class because they no longer have any relevant opponents. So we'll most likely see him move up a division.

I'm hearing some experts that Topuria's style could backfire on him against Gaethje. Ilia has a more boxing stance and is heavy on his lead leg, which can work nicely for Justin if he wants to execute low kicks, as he often does. Gaethje will also have size advantage. According to Wikipedia he's taller than Oliveira and of the same height as Holloway, but obviously he's bulkier.
I don't know for sure, but Gaethje could be the biggest guy Topuria has ever fought. Size is not something to be underestimated, we have weight classes for a reason.
Then again, Ilia is one of the most tactical strikers in the sport, and Justin always goes for a brawl and he announced that this time will be no different and he's willing to take the risk. So I guess the expectation is for Ilia to keep it close and wait for the right moment to pull the trigger.

Yeah, I have also noticed and read that Ilia stance might be his disadvantage. Weird that nobody ever tried to keep him on distance and always go to close distance or start exchange of punches. I also dont remember that anyone ever pushed on Ilia. No one has either hit Ilia as hard as Gaethje can. He always work as Nr.1 in octagon. If Gaethje changes something in his gameplan, then he has chances of winning. If we see same Gaethje we see everyday, then expect a knockout.

Yeah Garcia is just an underdog pick that I like.  Lopes is good but I like Garcia's chances here as an underdog.  But he better not get caught with Lopes' grappling tho.

But I gotta warn you, don't bet on Garcia.  If anything, it's a pass.  There's no value for either fighter.  But it's a degen parlay so I gotta pick one.  Lol.

That's what I thought, Lopes is the favorite to win, so I imagined the bet was on the underdog. But logically, Lopes should win this fight. I always think about how he fought against Volka, for example; just him surviving is already a great victory. So this fight should be easy for him.

I just checked this information and I was shocked that Gaethje was taller than Oliveira. Oliveira has a body structure that makes him look tall even though his height is only 1.78cm (5 feet 10 inches for Americans). Anyways, the difference between Oliveira and Gaethje's height is only 2cm.
I still believe that Ilia will beat him. Ilia has an amazing chin and even though Gaethje hits like a truck, as said by almost all of his opponents, Ilia knocks out people very easily. Even if Gaethje changes his style and strategy against Tapturo, I still bet all of my money on Topuria.

I wonder if he truly intends to do it that quickly, or if it's all just trash talk.
He said he'll invite Justin to the middle of the ring, similar how he invited Max Holloway in their fight. When asked about that, Gaethje said he'll stick to his own game plan, which is probably a sensible thing to do.

I wonder how they will do in terms of preparing the place. The white House is probably not meant for such events. I hear they intend to let a little above 4 thousand people in.

Ilia is the clear favorite. If there aren’t any major surprises, he will send Gaethje to the realm of the shadows. We know what Ilia did to Max. We know what Max did to Gaethje. I think these fights give us a clear picture of the situation... There couldn’t be a better opponent for Alex than Gane. The UFC is a master at matching fighters to his style...

What do you think about Hokit vs Lewis fight? We have got a rising star or guy who can attract some nice attention to UFC vs veteran. Hokit fought last time 2 months ago. To add Lewis to card was Trumps personal favor. However, Lewis comes as an underdog with 4.00 odds. I dont quite get why Lewis is such an underdog here. Guy with most knockouts in heavyweight and among all division has such high odds.

All that talk is mostly just for selling the event and to make the fans a little more excited.  At the end of the day these guys have a game plan.  I doubt that Topuria's coaches are telling him to KO Gaethje in a couple of minutes no matter what.

But then maybe Topuria really just needs around two minutes.  Lol.  If not in two minutes then maybe in a couple of rounds.

I wondered the same thing. But thinking about the fights, isn't there a risk of getting the octagon wet? If you stop to think about it, the images of the fight with rain in the background would be epic to see. What worries me is getting it wet where it shouldn't be and then using that as an excuse for the fighter later.

Looks solid enough to provide a protection from rain, unless there's a strong side wind as well.
If the image is not deceptive, the back rows do not seem to be covered by the roofing and might get hit double: by rain and by water coming down the roof, so not the best place to be if it rains.

If the event is on Mon, there's a heavy rain forecast for Sunday, but Mon should be fine. BUT, the UFC website says that the event starts on Mon 1 am GMT+1 time. Wouldn't that mean it would start on Sun evening then?

I can't say I've seen any mma fight fought in the rain, so that would be something new.

I don't even thing its that unlikely. Lewis still has his power, and Hokit is the definition of hittable. It might be worth a sprinkle. I'll probably not be betting on this event though, and just enjoying it for what it is. There's a lot to discuss about this event really both positive and negative, but I'm going to try and take it at face value, and just enjoy a unique setting and some decent fights. Also, a shorter fight night to typical fight nights, which might make the slightly later start time a bit easier.

The day of the event disappointed me greatly. I really don't know why they chose such a day it's terrible that it coincides with the start of the week. It's a great card though, and I think it's worth staying up late for. Two iron fists will face off. While Ilia Topuria is definitely the favorite, Justin could also take a single punch. In the heavyweight division, we'll see Alex Perreia. If Alex wins the belt in this division as well, it will be a huge achievement.

I don’t know what the local weather forecasts are predicting, but spectators could face major inconveniences during the fights. Missing the press conference isn’t a big deal, but missing the fights would be disappointing for ticket-holding audiences...

In this organization, they could inconvenience a large fan base just to please a few politicians or maximize their own personal interests...

I think a small bet on Lewis is not the worst idea. The odds for him are quite attractive but it's not a secret that odds makers have a heavy tendency to favourise younger fighters. Hokit is 28 while Lewis is 41. That would be a huge factor in lower weight divisions, but not so much in the heavyweight. Especially when, statistically speaking, the fight is not expected to go to the distance.
Only one of Hokit's professional fights went to the distance, which converts to 11%. For Lewis, that stat is also low, being 16%. So we are most likely to see a finish.

While Hokit has a spotless record of 9 wins and zero losses, his octagon experience is nothing compared to Derek's, who has a total of 43 fights.

That being said, I recognise that I could be biased towards Lewis as I really don't like the way Hokit chose to promote himself and naturally want to see him getting punished.

Looks awesome to me and it's something new.  But pretty sure Dana White doesn't really like this set up because he prefers arenas which are more enclosed and the environment more controllable.  He also doesn't like to hold events in huge sports stadiums for the same reason...

Topuria has been asking the UFC to have an event in Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabeu...  Real Madrid's turf.  But Dana White is hesitant me thinks.
