7788bitcoin you still have time to cancel that bet Cheesy Otherwise I can say that you are one of the craziest people I met here on bitcointalk. Half a million on a fighter who we know by his 10 years old highlights, who has been into troubles last years and had dissolute lifestyle - that is a very-very risky bet. If there were more highlights of his training and physical form, I could understand such a bet. Despite maybe ~10 guys here, nobody believe in McGregors victory.
I was also going through several retired fighters and experts YouTube channels and Belal Muhammad, Cory Sandhagen, Benoît Saint Denis, Robert Whittaker, Demetrious Johnson, Teddy Atlas, Arman Tsarukyan, Mario Bautista, Terrance McKinney, and coach Din Thomas all picked Max Holloway to win. It seems only Paddy Pimblett and Sean O Malley picked Conor McGregor.

At 37 years old, and considering his last victory was all the way back in January 2020 against Donald Cerrone, McGregor faces a tough challenge. Max Holloway also has a lot of mileage on his body, especially since he is coming off a recent loss against Charles Oliveira. If placing a bet, I prefer to back an active fighter rather than picking someone who has been inactive for over five years. As a fight fan, I am really curious to see the battle.

This fight didn't have much promo at all but somehow the name McGregor always find a way go in in prime spot and steal the show and I think the face off showed us that. I also saw the POW from Holloway glasses and I must say McGregor seems ready for this fight and yes, they sold me on watching this fight too.

I think Conor is still the most popular active (or even all-time?) athlete in Ireland. Even if the UFC/Paramount didn't put any extra effort in promoting the event, it should still get a decent number of views from the Irish fans alone.
A bit of anecdotal evidence, but I only left the house one time today, and I still overheard a bunch of "normal people" talking about McGregor's fight, so I think the awareness of it happening is probably quite big, even outside of the usual mma fans crowd.

I saw clips from the press conference, and I think it went pretty well. There were moments where we could see a bit of the good old Conor, he was present and confident. The face-off was also heated rather than overly respectful, which could indicate we are about to see a good show.

I think Conor is still the most popular active (or even all-time?) athlete in Ireland.
How is he active when he was not fighting for years in octagon and he didnt have any fight since 2021?
UFC is only keeping him on artificial life support to try and squeeze more money from his fights, but  I predict he is only going to sink lower after Holloway fight.
It is time for him to finally retire from MMA, and he can continue with exhibition events if he wants, or move on to politics like he announced.

Doesn't this fight remind you of when Mike Tyson came back to fight Jake Paul? Alot of boxing fans were saying he was going to knockout Paul but since the fight was on netflix it was all just for a huge pay check.
Now this is offered for free on Paramount so Conor already knew he was going to paid nicely to return to the UFC.
Watching Mcgregor back in his cage warrior matches he had speed and those fights even back then were exciting to see. I think those who are saying that Conor will win are wanting to see that 20 year olds fighting awareness and skill back but they have an almost 38 year old fighting who hasn't fought for over 5 years. He definitely won't be quick on his feet anymore and will have to rely on landing a devasting blow or he will be out matched with the amount of punches coming back to him.

The hype created is almost similar because hardcore Mike Tyson fans thought he could knockout Jake Paul. The reality is that Mike Tyson boxed Jake Paul when he was 58 years old. Unlike McGregor, Tyson was not as financially well off at this stage of his life and he wanted that huge paycheck from Netflix.

I am well over forty. If I do heavy sparring, I wont be able to recover for a week because my entire body will ache and my joints will be sore. I usually have to go for ayurvedic treatment under my kalarippayattu gurukul for a complete recovery. So participating in top competition after a certain age is very difficult. Therefore, age is a major factor. Conor is 37 years old, but he might not have the same issues since he took a five year break from top competition. He has the money, so he only needs to return for the competitive aspect rather than for financial reasons. That is why I am intrigued by his return, as I want to see which version of McGregor shows up.

Paramount plus subscription acquired. Looking forward to this one. I really hope it isn’t a disappointment. I’m still scarred emotionally from the Ronda Rousey disaster on Netflix. This fight won’t be that, but I will admit that I have higher hopes for the Paddy fight being the better watch of the evening.

^ I watched a few more myself. I think the fight is already taking shape. Holloway is talking about how Conor is going to get tired and then beat up where everyone else is talking about how much bigger Conor looks. I think everyone has the right idea of what will happen. McGregor knocks him out early or loses a decision.
He looks bigger because the weight class is 170lbs, which is a normal, healthy weight for him and if he follows a healthy diet, he actually doesn't have to make weight cut in his life because for someone with the height of 5'9 inch, 170lbs can easily be maintained.
Honestly, he was dehydrated and it left me a bit shocked, especially how leaned he looked. I have a friend who is exactly 5'9 and weighs nearly 170lbs but looks way much bigger than Connor, has the same lean physique with much bigger, fuller muscles (he is a fitness enthusiast though).

Great fights on this card tonight. Every one has been a banger. Almost time for Paddy…

The McGregor talk hasn’t been very prevalent so far. Maybe as we get closer to the main event we’ll hear more about it. Probably only an hour away from seeing the big man enter center stage. Exciting.

Holy shit… Paddy tied him up instantly… Sophie Cunningham as the ring girl…

Now for the main event! What a great night so far!

Conor blew out his knee throwing a kick to start the fight… Disappointment.

I noticed he was walking gingerly around people right before getting in the ring. Suspicious.

It is really unfortunate that Conor McGregor just blew his knee with his first kick. Respect to Max Holloway for stepping away and waiting for the referee to intervene as he knew that McGregor was hurt. It was a really sad end to a career.

Paddy Pimblett surprised me with his skills. It was a great fight card.

Watching the World Cup as well. Will post the rest later.  Smiley

Now for the main event! What a great night so far!

Smiley
If you're not disappointed on that fight, you're not a UFC fan that's for sure.
I'm disappointed, and so as the fans out there in the arena, and for sure there are many who are watching that are disappointed with the outcome as well.

It's really unfortunate, but I wonder why he will start the fight with a flying kick. I mean that causes him to blew his right knee, but why start like that? This is way more disappointing than the Gane-Aspinall fight. I guess I'm disappointed because just like many out there, we are just happy that Conor is back. I will not be surprised if this will be his last fight in his career after what happened. Even Holloway is pissed on what happened. I know that injuries do happen, but still I'm disappointed and so as others for sure.

The Pimblett fight was a great entrance, fight was over pretty quick though. I tossed a couple hundred on Conor just before the fight getting 3.10 odds. Wasted money as we all seen how that went. Conor should have to pay all betters with the money he got paid for taking this fight. Such a let down his last 2 fights.

^ Conor should be disqualified and all bets nullified. This will be huge news tomorrow… Here’s the clip:
https://x.com/talkmma/status/2076153226496246203

The clip right before that one on the broadcast was even worse looking. I’ve torn my ACL multiple times. That’s the movement of a guy with a torn ACL. I don’t know exactly what happens next here, but this is a bad look for Conor. You can’t go into a fight people are betting on if you can barely walk.

I noticed he was walking gingerly around people right before getting in the ring. Suspicious.

Wow. They just showed the clip. I wasn’t the only one who noticed. Conor had a blown ACL going into that fight (I’m guessing). This is going to be a huge controversy tomorrow. I bet he blew it out during training for the fight and tried to cover it up with an insane flying kick to start the fight.
Yes, they are looping the clip of Conor having issues during his walkout, particularly the moment the cutman applies the Vaseline. They need to justify the farce of a main event now by showing that video.  Cheesy

If you're not disappointed on that fight, you're not a UFC fan that's for sure.

Mate, who wouldn't be disappointed that McGregor blew his knee after entering the cage? When you want to see fair competition, and he just tries kicking and keeps falling back multiple times, you know the fight is over. Age is a huge factor, and I previously explained my curiosity regarding his return in this thread. However, we still had some great fights on the card.

A user here @7788bitcoin placed half a million on McGregor. I wish he cashed out after watching the walkout . Since Conor's last two fights have both ended in injuries, it’s probably time for him to call it quits.

And after all the hype leading to this hype, suddenly he pull another injury within seconds of the game. For sure this could be the last fight of his storied career. If I'm Dana I'm no longer going to give Conor another chance.

This is not the first time and so it's better to accept that he is no longer the face of MMA. He had made millions already just like in this fight. Dana will have to move on as well and see UFC without Conor. Sorry for those who bet on Conor and lost their hard earn money.

I doubt any site issues refunds. They paid out those who bet on Max and and wouldn't ask for them to pay back the bet. Those of us who made a bet on Conor just get fucked in the ass because the UFC wanted to save face and let the fight happen if they knew he was injured.

Very disappointing if they knew he was injured and let him make a go of it anyways.

I have set an alarm for main card, but tbh, despite few fights, I would better be sleeping. Main event was a total bs. Now millions of theories and controversies would appear about rigger, injured, wasnt going to fight and etc Conor. Most funny is that previous injury and titan in his leg made leg stronger and better, but other leg made him lose. Now he should make himself all out of titanium to win Cheesy

I think they are not doing that because its somehow unfair for those people who bet on Holloway. Also usually bookies don't do refunds just because there are fighter has been injured. What I know they always follow the official result of the match.

Also once UFC decide to let the fight happen, then they also treat it as valid event. If it happens that organization know that McGregor is injured and they still let the fight happen, then I guess they are the one to be blame and not the sportsbooks. Now the real issue is on side of UFC for allowing injured fight to continue.

I think Paddy Pimblett is in the conversation for another title run.  But he needs to fight another top guy in 155 tho.  As for McGregor...  It is what it is.  Lol.

Anyway, here are the results.

Paddy Pimblett def. Benoit Saint Denis via technical submission (D’Arce choke) – Round 1, 0:52
Mario Bautista def. Cory Sandhagen via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Brandon Royval def. Lone'er Kavanagh via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 3, 3:40
King Green def. Terrance McKinney via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 4:59
Robert Whittaker def. Nikita Krylov via TKO (punches) – Round 3, 1:01
Gable Steveson def. Elisha Ellison via knockout (punches) – Round 1, 2:31
Adrian Yanez def. Cody Garbrandt via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 2:47
Luke Riley def. Kai Kamaka III via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 3:03
Wang Cong def. Tracy Cortez via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27)

It was a great card with great fights, but I am really disappointed with the McGregor situation. He could barely stand inside the cage once the fight started. I need to take some time off from placing bets on UFC events. Props to Mario Bautista for pulling an upset; it was a great technical fight.

Nobody expected Paddy Pimblett to win the fight by submission in 52 seconds of the very first round. That is one hell of a comeback after a brutal loss.

Terrance McKinney dominated the initial exchanges and battered Bobby Green. To reverse that momentum and finish the fight in the first round was outstanding from Green.

The rest of the fights went as expected.
