The reason is very simple, that is just the next step in technological progress. Blockchain is quite simple code to control and verify the information on synchronized hardware. All it gives - only the speed, how cheapest it is I don't know. But we live in the century when speed is more important. I use cryptocurrencies most of time for ease on the exchange between virtual goods and money into real money fiat.
Quickly you will be able to make any kind of virtual payment and transaction from your profits or dealings with another cryptocurrency user and get your hands in cash anywhere you want whenever you want.

For instance meanwhile making a big transaction between banks from one individual to another takes ages and a big commission due to the transfer itself or just currency conversions / taxes. I don't get it. With a lot of people getting a lot of profit from the investments they had, It even made a lot of millionaires last year, isn't that a proof that it is a game changer? It is true that it is so volatile and with that, we can say that it can really give you a huge profit and you look at it as a hobby? The future might lead there and the hobby you have now will be the regret you've done. When will you get serious? When the price already reached 6-digit? When it is already a million?

One individual is not all people (and far from it)

People is plural while individual is single. If someone tells you that he hates Bitcoin (or whatever), will you then proceed to say that people hate Bitcoin? I guess this is called a selection bias and in this case it is pretty extreme with the sample size of 1 (you can't even draw an average). Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general are serious money now, just don't believe everything that some random dude tells you (even if for him personally Bitcoin is indeed a hobby)

I don't think banks and governments are the sole reason why we need crypto-currency. cryptocurrecy offers a lot more than just freedom and anonymity others may not realize this but crypto-currency may bethe stepping stone of a new technological advancement in economical world. crypto-currency may also be the reason that we may achieve one currency in the whole world.

I will go back to the very beginning of Bitcoin, the prime mover of the cryptocurrency saga that we are part of right now.

We need crypto because it is peer-to-peer. I mean, transactions are done only between parties involved. It does not have to go through a lot of parties which are not actually part of the actual transactions. The banks right now are always parties when it comes to transactions involving fiat currencies.

And then we really need crypto because it is electronic. We cannot stay on with our brute way of doing business. We need to gradually bid good bye to hard money. We are in an era in which things are done in a digital manner. Currencies should therefore adjust to it as well.
