Hi Dev,

I need help getting this to work. I'm not good at using Linux but I was only able to get to the part where I unpacked the tar.gz file.
Please kindly provide the commands to install the wallet after which one can run it. Thanks

Below are the commands and responses I've gotten so far on Ubuntu 18.04

beejaebtc:~$ wget "https://gitlab.com/cytoproject/genesis/uploads/b203ed2301771186a271bc1e0002823c/cy

Unless the dev is not targeting a larger audience, i think he needs to create  a window wallet where people can easily join the airdrop.
There is no much information about this coin but Trustless, decentralized cash sounds good.

You will not be the only one that will miss this airdrop due to the linux wallet but a lot of other people.
The dev can pay someone to compile the window wallet though i can be of help.

I will really appreciate it if you can help provide the list of commands to successfully set this whole thing up. It will also be useful for other noobs like me who may find this project and also want to be early adopters! Thanks much in anticipation

No, the genesis wallet does not need to be kept open because we have not launched the network yet. Once we launch the network your airdrop units will be in the genesis block and you can start staking rewards.  Don't lose the genesis wallet you just created and don't forget the password either.

Great! The view key is not that important. You need to backup the whole wallet directory cyto_wallet in order to be able to get your genesis airdrop and stake once we launch.

backup the whole wallet directory cyto_wallet? How do I do this? I'm not so learned at using linux and I generated the wallet using a vps on my google cloud free trial which will expire in a few weeks. Please how do I make sure I don't lose my wallet after my trial expires? I should be able to run commands to obtain my private keys, mnemonics or wallet seed.

You don't need to back it up, but you should. You just need it later in order to receive your airdrop when we launch the network. The wallet contains your private key, which you need to access your airdrop. You provided us your public key (airdrop address) when you joined the airdrop.

To backup the directory, something like this...

tar czvf cyto_wallet.tar.gz cyto_wallet
then ask your vps provider for help on how to download cyto_wallet.tar.gz
once you download it, save it somewhere safe on your computer

Thanks for your feedback. We are actively working on the Windows build. Getting there.. have an annoying linker issue to fix.

I backed up the directory as you suggested. Then somehow I was able to successfully install a GUI on the VPS. I then located the archived backup (cyto_wallet.tar.gz) and opened it but alas, it was empty!!! I expected to at least find some sort of text file therein but there was not a single file in there. Please how I go about this whole backing up of a thing? i really don't want to lose my wallet when my g-cloud trial expires...

One of three things went wrong. Either your wallet was not saved to cyto_wallet/main.wallet, your command to create the tar.gz file was incorrect, or the command you used to extract it was incorrect.  Start by going back to your VPS, switching into your cyto_wallet directory and then doing an ls -la there.  If it's empty, then perhaps you saved your wallet to another location. If not, then rerunning the tar czv command from the parent directory should show the files that were added to the tar.gz.  You can paste them here just to confirm.

Well, now that I have a GUI installed, I wouldn't need to be running commands. Kindly tell me what file(s) or folder(s) I should be looking for in the directory so I can back them up. Thanks

So it looks like you have your wallet, but don't have the airdrop keys.  Once you launched cyto-console-wallet and created the wallet, did you run the new_genesis_airdrop_address command followed by exit (from within the cyto-console-wallet program)?  (Worst case you will just have to generate a new airdrop address and give it to me and I replace your old address with the new one.)

I ran the generate new airdrop address command but didn't run the "exit" command

Update: I went back to run the wallet again (using ./cyto-console-wallet-linux64-0.1/cyto-console-wallet) followed by the 'exit' command.
I went back to check and the 'airdrop.id' and the 'airdrop.keys' files showed up. I guess everything's perfect now, yea?

So you did new_genesis_airdrop_address again?

No... Do I still need to? I figured the airdrop backup files didn't show up because I didn't run the 'exit' command...so I logged into the wallet again and the ran the 'exit' command immediately....I then went back to check the directory and the airdrop files were there...all 5 backup files complete

Yes. You will need to run that command again and paste me here your new airdrop ID.  I will manually go in and swap your old one for it.

Then take note of your new airdrop id, backup your entire wallet and save your password somewhere safe.

Also need to know your old airdrop ID or IP address.  PM me these details if you don't want them public.

I just tried sending you a PM but I got an error response that you've set your account not to receive PMs from Newbies. Kindly review your account settings so I can try again. Thanks

Some participants have been confused between a Cyto address and an Airdrop address. Cyto addresses are prefixed with "C" while Airdrop addresses start with "Ax0". For example,

Cyto address:
Code:
CkoRfc5CJKP7CLgeuypH93hoY4s3PHKT5J8wa1m3pV67SmBndH3brdYCMGDKX36jBH2YrX1h54zE5fVWz58BS2aF1GckJTN

Airdrop address:
Code:
Ax03519b57f516cdd58f8b2bd984edb987ace7a87fad7e6b9d55a5921fbb02066dea

Due to how Cyto will launch, Cyto airdrop addresses are necessarily different from normal Cyto addresses.

When you join the airdrop make sure to generate and submit an Airdrop address starting with "Ax0" by following the instructions carefully in the second post.

Tip: It's also a good idea to save a copy of your airdrop receipt for your paperwork and proof for tax purposes, etc.
