I have downloaded the AppImage. I extracted and read the Readme file. Was still none the wiser on how to install it.
I then used
wget https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py
sudo python3 get-pip.py
as suggested. All looked good so I
python3 -m pip install --user Electrum-3.3.6.tar.gz[fast]
and got the following result
