Bitcointalk forum can gain lots of respect if KYC is implemented for developers who released or want to release ANN posts and bounties on this forum for their new projects, the reason I make this post is we still have some scam projects that are nearly impossible to detect as SCAM until they end up scamming investors and promoters, these projects are well crafted by pros and yet they are scam.

Pretty much. Some of the scam projects are a lot more patient than most. While some just might flee immediately after like a week or two, some will definitely wait months and years. Take a look at the Oyster Pearl(PRL) project[1]. This one used to be over hyped on r/cryptocurrency(LOL), and it's dead now.

The thing about KYC will never happen unless it's April fool's day https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5124947.0, joke around. Grin

KYC will never really happen in forum even the creator avoided that. And besides if you want to invest on a project always do some intensive research about it, do some background check about their legitimacy and be aware also that there is a Scam Accusations board that exposed scam projects. Some good member here exposed it there and the effort they gave is truly admirable though it may be not for all projects that almost every day popping up especially in the forum it is still help others in a way.

One more thing there are too many similar posts like this still the answer is "never".

I think Theymos would rather stop allowing ANNs to be posted here rather than requiring them to undergo KYC. That might even make bitcointalk a more trustworthy forum. Anyway, measures are already in place to address such issues. If you ever see one, report it immediately on the scam accusation board.

theymos would never implement such, as he himself believes that privacy is the utmost priority of everyone dealing with cryptocurrencies and as such, he only does require/implement KYC on April Fool's day. Again, this forum does not condone the workings of scams and whatnot but it certainly does not take down possible scams as well, for it might be misinterpreted as some form of power trip/taking away freedom of expression from any member that could possibly scam people. Red trust exist for a good reason, and that's to serve as a tag for someone who might do something nefarious and for people to be aware that they (tagged people) already had a bad rep (or it could be used as a tool for revenge, some sort of personal issue etc.) The point is, community members should look after one another, and should be educated well enough to spot such scams in the making.

Don't participate in any ICO's. That's the best solution not be scammed by them. Or should I say not to expect a good profit in the future.

There are project owners who are transparent to their identity but still not an assurance that they will give their investors a good run along the way.

Even how legit they looks are, even how good their presentation is, even how good their goals are -well that's usual - even how actively they are in the community, just don't join. Good thing the 2018 bear market really struck down the majority of the ICO.

And one more thing, projects can be found anywhere not just in Bitcointalk so the KYC of the owners here will not work as a standard measure that everything is safe.

Rubbish.

Implementing KYC would not only be a huge breach in anonymity, which I'm fairly sure that bitcointalk as a whole is generally pro- towards, the mandatory implementation of this would also be hugely restricting on legitimate every-day people that have a small project that they want to share (i.e., not an formal project).

The current system of trust and/or flags is sufficient, if you just use a little bit of your common sense.

I also disagree with you in terms of your claim that 'some scam projects are perfectly made'. If you bother to do some research before you use anyone's services, you'll see how obvious the majority of the crypto scams are.

if that's the case then forum would be considered involved and/or moderate possible scam
and when the project actually turned scam, forum has to take responsibility too Undecided

It is not that difficult to obtain false KYC documents which could be use to verify an account, especially if there is no requirement for linking to an actual bank account. There is no shortage of idiots who are willing to part with a photocopy of their passport in return for an airdrop of worthless tokens or a place on an equally worthless bounty campaign. These "professional" scams you are talking about which are already hard to detect would be able to achieve this without too much effort. The only scams KYC would stop would be the ones run by idiots which are already barn door obvious.

Still, there is no firm link between knowing who is behind a project and whether or not that project is legit. Satoshi is anonymous, and yet bitcoin flourishes. BCH and BSV are both downright scams, and yet we all know full well who is running them.

To prevent any scam from happening, then there should be no investment. No investment, no premined coins, no vulnerability that allows the developers or any other people to mint coins out of nowhere.

In short, every coins/tokens must undergo what Bitcoin did.

this is a decentralized world and we are in a semi decentralized forum. nobody wants KYC whether they are developers or they are regular users. and it will never happen either because this forum is not supposed to act as the authority who decides what project is allowed and what isn't.

the reason I make this post is we still have some scam projects that are nearly impossible to detect as SCAM until they end up scamming investors and promoters, these projects are well crafted by pros and yet they are scam.
then KYC is not the solution. educating investors is the solution.
besides being a "scam" project is not just about running away, it is mostly about being a shitcoin in my books. 100% of the ICO fundraising tokens are scam without an exception but unfortunately people only see those that pulled an obvious scam and ran away! otherwise none of them did anything apart from creating the token and taking the money.

I guess you need to be cautious while investing. There are examples of some of the legit business acted suspiciously and there is quite a loss of fund for which no one is accounted responsible in the business.

The reason is bitcointalk.org has not yet have objectives to play as a bank or exchanges, so there is no reason to do KYCs. It is abnormal to do KYCs just to join forums, I meant.
In reality, from suggestions made by community (back in 2017, I remembered), @theymos made it on this year's April Fool. However, it is just a joke and in the near future or might be forever, we might not see KYC requirements here.

Bitcointalk is just forum for every user to sharing and learn together. Need KYC for promote project in forum, i think this is very funny.
And about scam project / fake project. investors and bounty hunter should be careful to check that project.

If ANNs are stopped how is this going to help?its one of the best way to create awareness for new projects on here
I am responding to Samayuki's statement that the forum needs to implement KYC for developers to gain lots of respect. This forum does not need all that. And I think the forum may get more respect if they stop all these ANNs. It became successful without it.

The scam projects have been changing their tactics all the time. They have developed strategies of becoming like real projects so it is difficult to identify it. But we should all do well and post scam projects on this platform.
