The subject of mining and energy is completely relative. The energy consumed in today's conditions will not be the same as the future. Perhaps, as a result of some technological developments, energy consumption will decrease. I think we have more important problems, such as legal regulations.

It is very hand to update the perfect system. You have to take too many variables into account.
It will take some time for the shitcoins to evolve and come up with better ideas and newer thechnologies that eventually can be implemented into btc if the community will agree.

Bitcoin is considered the main one (using your words) because we can only have one true bitcoin but as for altcoins, we can have as many as we want and just for the record the good ones are yet to be developed. Bitcoin has stood the taste of time (currently 10years and counting) so it has earn the trust of the community but the altcoins you speak of haven't.

Bitcoin is the most used cryptocurrency globally, that's it's the cryptocurrency with the highest adoption globally and finally in related to investment capital flowing into the market while altcoins have to share their allocations bitcoin doesn't have a worthy competitor that's why it's currently the leading in market cap.

You can't just trust everything that you read, there's a ton of people in crypto who are interested in seeing their coin surge, even if it means spreading negative information against other coins.

Bitcoin is not unsustainable, mining rewards are decreasing with time, so the need for PoW is not infinite like some minsinformed or dishonest people say.

Transaction speed is a matter of security - many coins have block times of a few minutes or less, but their confirmation are not as secure as confirmations of Bitcoin. This is why when you deposit Bitcoin, you are required to way 1-3 confirmations, but with Ethereum it's 10-20 confirmations and more. For me, bitcoin is considered as the main one because its the true bitcoin is the main one or principal one, bitcoin is the first successful cryptocurrency and the success of bitcoin result high price, high demand, creating new crypto, etc. But bitcoin is limited to an estimated 21 million and reaching on its limit it will be difficult to mine bitcoin. But it thinks in the future another cryptocurrency will rise and will be the next step or evolution of cryptocurrency that will be much better than bitcoin.

The subject of mining and energy is completely relative. The energy consumed in today's conditions will not be the same as the future. Perhaps, as a result of some technological developments, energy consumption will decrease. I think we have more important problems, such as legal regulations.

Energy consumption by the Bitcoin network is not dependent on the number of transactions per hour(as some journalists think), but rather it depends on the number of miners. The more miners in the network, the higher the difficulty target so that each new block was mined not faster than in 10 minutes. If, for some reasons, 90% of the current miners would stop mining, the network would work just as fine, but the energy consumption would decrease 10 times.
