There can be other options out there, if you just want a workhorse. The issue is that the BCCI and selectors only want Siraj for that role. Playing most of his matches in SENA nations and then having a bowling average of around 32 should not guarantee a permanent place in the playing XI. There are a lot of talented bowlers out there in Indian domestic cricket, and none of them are given chances because one slot is permanently booked for Siraj irrespective of his performance. At least in this match, both Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna have bowled equal or more overs when compared to Siraj.

Since his test debut, india has played around 24-25 tests at home and he featured in 14. Earlier India had shami as workhorse and he used to be regular along with the likes of Umesh etc and Siraj replaced them at home. You can't play more than 2 seamers at home anyway.

Every emerging players gets its chance as far as seam bowling is concern because team need good bowlers but it's not a charity and you have to fight it out. In second inning, India has been looking solid, and their batsmen were playing with confidence Yashasvi Jaiswal having impressing batting from start but now suddenly 3 quick wickets brought England back into game. The way Akash Deep has performed like a top-order batsman suggests that the pitch may have been helpful for batting. But later, Shubman Gill and Karun Nair did not perform very well, which suggests that the pitch bowling was helpful. I feel they already batted them out once they crossed the 350+ lead barrier. Sundar and Akash really impressed me with their bazball performances.
