Logically, you are right. Thing is legends like Rohit etc don't need to adhere to that logical standard thanks to their massive contributions in their fields due to which they basically become brands themselves and brands equal money to BCCI, ICC, FIFA etc.

This is why it's somewhat surprising that the BCCI are forcing him to retire like this. What if Kohli quits himself since he looked pissed in the 2nd ODI? Both of them deserve one more shot at least IMO.

England also struggling in reply to India 234 runs target. Bumrah got England team under pressure by picking wicket of Ben Duckett on very first ball of England innings. Axar Patel has done the job for Indian side once again by picking crucial wicket of Jos Buttler. If Indian bowlers can get one or two more wickets in next five overs then match will be very much over for England. Root is still on the crease and as long as he is on the crease. England chances of winning the game are alive.
England won the toss and decided to bowl first, the decision proved to e good for them. They gave defeat such a strong team of India due to their phenomenal efforts especially Joe Root. Who stole  the limelight of the match by hitting 99 runs. Indian team posted 233 runs as a target but it's not big for such a strong team of England. Indian can increase it but they were lost the momentum at the middle overs, where they lost more wickets. Otherwise the early phase was strong. But England's steadily kept moving towards the chase and secured the victory. It's really a great achievement for them, now both team are standing on 1-1 position so next match would be very thrilling. Both are highly competitive teams let's see who will win in coming series

As long as a player is performing irrespective of his age, there is nothing wrong in it. I completely missed the fact that he's turned 39. When checking out Cricinfo, his average in the last 20 ODIs is above 40 with a strike rate of 93, which is not bad for anyone. The discussion going around in social media is that he did not score a century in a long time, but he was scoring half centuries.

There is some sort of power struggle going on in the team, otherwise these kinds of stories wouldn't leak. If Rohit Sharma actually retires, it will be clear that the dressing room atmosphere is not that great. I still want to believe this is just social media rumors. The next ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in South Africa, so we need players who have the experience to perform on those pitches.

It is not the appropriate time to retire, if it was then it should have happened after odi wc 2023, now we are just a year away from the next ODI wc so we can't change the team combination now over the rusty form. He is still capable batter who can score daddy hundreds at will but he changed his batting style for the better of team and focused more on quick starts rather than playing long innings.

Gill on the other side can play the long innings and we don't really need to touch the batting order now, we just need Hardik back and the team will do great again.

I don't see India good effort and hard work in this because their batsmen scored 233 runs and it was a very bad target in 44 overs which England batsmen can easily achieve and make the series interesting. But England batsmen are playing very carelessly they lost 2 wickets in 6 overs due to which this target can be tough for them. On one hand, you can trust the Indian team, their bowlers play very hard so there can be hope of success from their side but it also depends on England batsmen that if they are controlled by the Indian bowlers, they will lose this series today and this will end the hope of the series for England.  The way England's batsmen are playing and being careless in the beginning, the target of 233 will also become enough strong for their batsmen and this weak target will become a defeat for them.
233 is certainly small target in 44 overs but game of cricket is unpredictable. Situation is changed completely when England lose two wickets early, pressure mounts quickly when the early wickets go. When Indian bowlers have target to defend, particularly in middle overs, they can be deadly.
Well, 233 is toss up to be honest. With India bowlers continuing to pick wickets at regular intervals and not allowing England to build any big partnership, this target is easily defendable. But chocolaty play from England in beginning of the match and Kohli and Iyer's performance ensured that India are still not out.
The 2nd game of the ODI series between England and India was very interesting and there are high chances of England to win the game and currently India dominating in this series and if England won this game then both teams depend on the third ODI game for winning this series. England won the toss and elected to field first so India opens the innings first and the top order gives a normal start to the team and among other batters Kohli and Shyreyas Iyer was so impressive and India set a strong target at the end of the innings on the tricky wicket. England batters seems to be struggling against Indian bowlers and the top order completely collapsed early on so a huge can be built on middle order then Joy Root showing his experience and batting abilities and now he is very close to his hunderd and there is high chances of England win this game

No player is bigger than game and team.

He had an excellent opportunity to exit on high note when we won champions trophy but instead his PR ran a selfless captain campaign, which turned into a big meme.

Also i won't be surprised if all this retirement news turns out to be another PR campaign. His brother in law and wife own such pr company.

Bhuvi, shami, Ashwin, Pujara, rahane ( in test as captain, his legacy is larger than Rohit's) etc were performer as well but they are phased out because everyone wanted to give chance to young players and in case of Ashwin, he was humiliated on every SENA tour, all of em also wanted to keep going on.

Those 20 matches are played over the period of 2-3 years. I do agree that Rohit still might have some miles on his legs but he's not the Rohit of 2023.

Virat Kohli, although he performed well today, tried his best to make his team win. However, although the performance of the Indian team was correct in terms of batting, the performance of the bowling was even worse. You notice and think that the Indian team was all out in batting and could not create any pressure on the England team in bowling,
so undoubtedly the England team was able to equalize the match. Both the teams will now try their best to win the third match, but the real performance of the two teams will be seen there, which team will win and be able to win the series.

Now this kind of performance from the Indian team is clear proof that the problem in the Indian team is not about the format, it is about the mindset, the game strategy or maybe team selection. Before, when India lost the T20 series, Shubman Gill said that our main mission is to dominate in the ODI, but now they are even struggling there, so what is the excuse now? India really needs to make itself feel confident and motivated for the World Cup 2027.

The 2nd game of the ODI series between England and India was very interesting and there are high chances of England to win the game and currently India dominating in this series and if England won this game then both teams depend on the third ODI game for winning this series. I think this series has become more interesting than the match because if India had played with a strong target, we could have considered this match interesting but their batsmen could only score 233 runs and England batsmen achieved this target in 44 overs. When England batsmen were playing in the beginning, I thought they would be defeated even by such an easy target because they lost 2 wickets carelessly but the batsmen after them victory the match with a very good effort. Now the last match is more important for England because many people hope that they can victory this series by controlling everything and if that happens then it will be very interesting and if India victory then it is good for them because they also deserve to victory this series. Indian batsmen should effort their best and work together with each other so that they do not play carelessly.

The collapse was sudden in the Indian innings, when they were on around 180 to 190 runs, the collapse began there when Virat Kohli got out, the early players quickly lost their wickets, including Axar Patel and Washington Sundar as well. And with that slowly India has lost all of their wickets, talk aside, a part that at the end when Jasprit Bumrah came, he actually surprised us with his wonderful shots, scored 20 runs off 13 balls, in which he smashed multiple fours and one six too, even he remains not out.

It looked like an easy chase for England, but the pitch was difficult to bat. When England started their chase, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna started by picking early wickets, putting pressure back onto England. Joe Root played an innings of a lifetime, even though Gus Atkinson denied his well deserved century. It is one of the best innings he played this year.
Actually, the condition of the England team in this match initially made it seem that the England team would lose here even though the target was easy but Joe Root himself took the responsibility of the entire team due to which the England team did not have to lose this match but they made an outstanding recovery.
However, the only regret here is that Joe Root could not score a century for just one run. However, I thought that after a long time the Indian team could break their losing streak but here they lost again. If they cannot do a good batting performance in the third match, I think they will lose that match too.

Tell that to the people who literally treat these legends like Gods. They literally call Sachin 'God of Cricket'. Legends in all kinds of sports will always be given special treatment over the team. I do hope this is all some sort of PR campaign though.

Have very little interest in the ODI format and these legends leaving would make me lose all interest. I really don't see India winning the ODI WC next year without RoKo, but that's just my random prediction.

The performance of this game was on Eng  head, which they played with a lot of responsibility and winning this game to strengthen the people and themselves.  Congratulations to them on this winning and the success of their series is also affecting a lot of people because they have put a lot of pressure on Ind, which Ind players are not going to endure.  If Ind does not play better and does not struggle in the third game, then it will be very embarrassing for them after this series and their people will put a lot of blame on them.  In the performance of this second game, many Ind players who played very badly, if they had played better, their won could have been much better, but they did not show any regret in it.  Winning the game for Ind is as important as it is for Eng, but this pressure is more on Ind because India will lose 2 series in this way.

The target set by the Indian team in 44 overs, the England team has completed that target in 44 overs and one ball. In this second ODI match, the Indian team had set a target of 233 runs and all their players were dismissed in 44 overs. If we talk about the performance of the players, the top order was quite good, in which Virat Kohli also performed quite well. Apart from this, there are some other players who have shown their performance in achieving this target, but their bowlers did not show enough toughness to put pressure on the batsmen of the English team. But one thing is that the English team tried hard to put pressure on England by dismissing the first two players, but Joe Root, who is a very capable player of the English team, revived the spirit of the players and won this match by four wickets and 35 balls.

To go 4-0 in the T20 series and then come up with a terrible collapse in the 2nd ODI, despite being in a strong 180+ position, shows that something is wrong with them. Kohli getting out, causing a collapse in middle order is common feature now in India middle order. Once big names have gone, rebuilding of middle order by the new set of players does not appear to be working. Bumrah, who is regarded as a fast bowler, is hitting 20 off 13 at the finish, which is great because it is funny, but also a bit embarrassing for the batsmen. It is matter of importance for India to fix their top order dependence quickly, but series final at Lord's is Sunday.

Top order is fine, Rohit will come through but the middle order is kind of weak, at least KL should have added some balance but they went with Ishan Kishan who is not in any form at all since T20, Dube is okay but the absence of Hardik Pandya disrupts the team balance and there is no finisher at the end to give the confidence for others to play freely.

^^ once hardik comes back, believe Dube will sit out from playing XI and possibly ODI squad because reddy might chip in, once he's fit.

Washi is injured so KL will be back. Think kishan came in because of his wk batter quota and his batting style is suited for opener, not 4 and 5 spot, these spots should be locked in for iyer and kl.

Yeah, fans should select the playing XI instead of selectors.

Dube isn't really ready for ODI format yet but he did okayish for this level, not someone who can fill in the spot of Hardik for sure. So the next game will be two changes KL in place of Ishan and Kuldeep for Washi, then we have one batter short but we will have a complete bowling attack, rather than trying to fill the quota with all-rounders.

I'm not saying we should change the combination just because Rohit Sharma struggles for a few innings, especially since we have an abundance of opening talent. I don't want to judge him based on just two innings after a long break from the format. The current batting lineup is fine as long as they are scoring runs, and if Hardik Pandya is fit, he will likely replace Shivam Dube or another spinner in the World Cup team as it is taking place in South Africa. I'm just curious to see which combinations they are going to finalize in the end.

~
Bhuvi, shami, Ashwin, Pujara, rahane ( in test as captain, his legacy is larger than Rohit's) etc were performer as well but they are phased out because everyone wanted to give chance to young players and in case of Ashwin, he was humiliated on every SENA tour, all of em also wanted to keep going on.

Those 20 matches are played over the period of 2-3 years. I do agree that Rohit still might have some miles on his legs but he's not the Rohit of 2023.
I am not even comparing the legacy of these players. For me, the benchmark was always Sachin, simply because I started watching him right from his debut. Newspapers and the radio were the only sources during that period, and we could only watch a few seconds of clips during the news Cheesy.

I am not a fan of phasing out players. Only Sachin got a proper farewell match; neither Sunil Gavaskar nor Kapil Dev got a proper farewell match.

My point is that the BCCI needs to give Rohit Sharma some breathing room instead of putting him under intense pressure. Let him play without that weight; if he is still struggling down the line, he can choose to call it a day on his own terms.

The next game is going to be so interesting and very important for the team India cause India lost the last game, and even in the first game (that they won), they made a lot of mistakes in both of the games, which is why in the third match they need to prove them and lead the game with full confidence. From the England side, they just won the last game and since they played very well in T20 matches that's why they knew that they are good and all fine.

No one goes voluntary, that's a problem in Indian cricket. Every freaking indian cricketer wants to extend his career and then we wonder why they don't they get farewell matches in front of their home crowd.

Atm we don't even know if news of dropping rohit is true, it's all speculation from some journalists ( PR basically)and their sources.
