OP, I'm curious as to why you're asking this.  The answer is no, there's not an option to have an account with merits disabled but I'm not sure why in the world you'd want something like that.

That's the only way I can see it happening, and who knows, Theymos might actually do it.  Seems pretty silly to me, though.

Lol, you may visit some of the merit abusing thread to find out those posts also get merit, not sure what you meant by earn though. Lots of people were abusing the system although recently it is decreased.

Simple answer is no- at least not within the current forum set up, Why are the justifications for such account? Sending merits is already something optional and there is already a way to curb abuse of merits

Locked and perman-banned accounts still be able to received merits, that are what I saw, but I don't know what will happen with nuked accounts. However, I guess nuked accounts are also able to received accounts. They all likely are unable to send their sMerits.

Actually there is a way to do it. Just don't create an account.
It meets your requirements. You cannot send or receive merit points then.
It is the most anti-merit thing you can possibly do.

I believe OP is referring to useable accounts but these accounts status you're referring to aren't useable. OP you might try your chances by sending a PM to theymos requesting for that restriction on your account. I'm positive you guys can work something out if he responds to your message. I'm just as curious as the others, why on earth who someone not want to recieved merit (or are you asking your question, just for asking seek). Even those who claims to not be interested in the system still fancy getting merited and sends smerits when they feel like.

I guess to do it is put a text on your text profile or on your signature that you probably don't want any merit to be received. That way I guess people will never give you a single merit, though it isn't a 100% that you will not get it, still there's possibility if you will explain it fully that you didn't really want it.

This question is actually quite funny lol. It gets worse if somebody will ask the same thoughts but on the trust system. (an account that is anti- trust?) and guess they might follow the idea of contacting theymos for that

You have received a total of xxx merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have yyy sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.

The Italic part let me know that there is no way to create such account.
- Merits do not dissappear/ lose.
- Users can not prevent merits come to them.
Overtime, if someone can build up a Merit-FireWall, OP can create account he wanted; but I highly doubt that admin will not accept Merit Firewall and will not let it funtionally operates in the forum.

@theymos can do it but you need a convincing reason to convince him to do it.
Until then, if the Merit system causes you trouble, you can request a user script to completely hide it. "This update will only be associated with your account."

Great question I gave you 2 merits for it.  This means you can give someone a merit.

The best way to destroy your give away merits is to send them to a banned account.

On a variation of this idea. Rather then a merit ban how about a 30 day signature ban.

No signatures for anyone for 30 days. Then see what it does to forum traffic.

After 30 days allow signatures to return.

Just give you sMerits to Theymos if you don't want to support the system.  I think it would be a shame though. You can always keep your sMerits, and use them to encourage posters that you think are beneficial to the forum.

It's not possible to do that, well maybe theymos can do this personally just for your account, but I doubt he is going to do that. So, you can do some things yourself. If you don't want to receive merits, just put big red letters on your signature "Don't give me merits". And you should just don't send any of your sMerits to anyone.
